Whoa!!! Now...that's what I call experience in the BIZ!!! You know my grandpa had a "Mom & Pop" store in downtown Houston a LONG time ago and my real father had a very large store in Houston, but, it wasn't until I turned 64 that I started at Kroger and now I'm 70 plus... I LOVE my customers who patronize at our store in Keller, Texas as I'm SURE you do as well !!!
Good day sir, are you familiar with the "RU-vid go Live together" function? I'm asking because I'd absolutely love to do a livestream chat with you about JKD, martial arts and pop culture stuff, I think you have one of the most wholsome channels I've seen, I think it'd be fun for both our viewers as well! Let me know when you get the chance 🙏🥊👌 ~Tomo
@@papamike3627 🙏, trust me it took me a while to figure out how all that youtube stuff works and I'm only 27 haha, but essentially it's the simplest way to do live interviews/live chats without anything else besides a phone and a youtube channel
George, TRUST me if he did... Paul's arm wouldn't be the same. Big Ray is a former SEAL, Biker and NOT a nice one until his dearly departed wife changed him, Heavyweight Southern Rim Boxing Champ while in the NAVY, but, all in ALL, you're probably right... I'll hold the target next time so he can put a little bit more torque on the chop Brother!!!
Thank you so much Sifu Harris!!! Coming from you it REALLY means a lot to me!!! PROUD of my friend and former student!!! BEST wishes to you, your Family, and students!!!
Our group of four (4) old farts meet on Friday evenings hence, instagram@jkdfridaynightgroup ( like my Sifus the late Bob Bremer and Tim Tackett's JKD Wednesday Night Group ) and we really do enjoy our getogethers. Big Ray is my BEST friend former military like myself, but, he initially, was a SEAL and formerly a BIKER that you wouldn't want to mess with, but, found the RIGHT woman and he changed for theBETTER!!! Between the two of us, we just experiment doing different things like you said and have a GREAT time... Keep in touch WayneManor666!!! You have an open invitation to visit my home in Keller, Texas where I teach.
@@papamike3627 thank you for your reply, i live in germany though but i do have plans to visit your beatyfull country. If I do and if i get into your part of the country i bring some german beers with me , i was in the german navy for 4 years, so we can share stories and have a good time
It's a great tool against a frontal bear hug which I demonstrate in a previous video where I insert my thumb into the armpit of my attacker where the carotid is located which is a fatal stab area. It's NOT a finishing blow as mentioned in the description element. Appreciate your input.
I somehow had not seen The Presidio, though I had seen Rising Sun ( you have seen that movie in which there is a scene where he uses what looks like a thumb poke to the throat of a security guard ( they don't show his thumb, only the guard wheezing after a quick move by Sean ). I will have to try this technique, as self defense skills are becoming more and more important in today's crazy world. Just watched The Presidio scene. I like how at the end when they are walking out the door the other guy says to Sean, "About your daughter - my intentions are strictly honorable" a nod to Sean's line to Ursula Andress in Dr. No.
Thumb poke in the throat is definitely effective. It was a GREAT scene for SURE!!! But, when you watch "The Presidio" you'll see at least 12 stunt people were involved in that one scene!!! You can also take a look at Gary Dillman's pressure point view or any other practitioner that does. The poke though NOT meant to be a FINISHING move it sure an great opener in close quarters.
That's not a kote gaeishi lock. It's a half-executed nikkyo hold. In jkd it would make more sense to hit the eyes, groin or knee then do multiple steps hitting non vulnerable targets since jkd is what Bruce described as "efficient street fighting with everything goes."
Thank you for the correction on the Aikido hold, always willing to learn. But, since the hold is NOT "life-threatening", you have to restrain your actions in order NOT to go to court or worse yet JAIL!!! Each situation is different, if an attacker were to try to strike or kick me, you'd be justified to act in a JKD manner as you're correctly advised. Appreciate your insight. Really!!! I live in Keller, Texas and fellow martial artists are always welcomed.
@@papamike3627 most fights on the street the other guy is not gonna follow rules or honor especially you don’t know what their intentions like if they have a knife, better safe then sorry. In legal terms you have the right to defend yourself especially if they grab/assault first.
@@SuperMaryu767 Good advice, but, in reality, I wouldn't even let some one get that close, it was just a mental drill with my best friend who studied Aikido. Sort of a physics problem. LOVE to analyze things... Again, thank you so much for your input.
My very first exposure to JKD was at Sifu Dan Inosanto and Chris Kent's seminar at Manuel Taningco's School back in 1980. Since I could speak basic Tagalog Sifu Inosanto and I hit it off and he told me to invite both Larry Hartsell and Tim Tackett to Fort Worth and ever since, I had the pleasure of training under Tim Tackett and the Late JKD Icon Bob Bremer. I was certified by James Sewell, Bob Bremer, and of course Tim Tackett. I've had the pleasure of working out with other JKD instructors as well. I feel very blessed being over 70 years young that I can still do what I can and I'm VERY grateful !!! I, even had the pleasure of training at JKD Legend Taky Kimura's school and Sifu Kimura took me and my son on a tour of Sigong Bruce Lee's and Brandon Lee's burial sites along with ALL the various hangouts that he and Bruce had experienced together. I, also, had the pleasure of JKD Sifu Ted Wong's Seminars when he visited Irving, Texas. I, also, met other JKD Icons as well. They ALL were very approachable and even Linda Lee Cadwell wrote me and my son several times as did the Late James Lee did. I, also, had the extreme honor and pleasure of training under Supremo Tuhon Leo T. Gaje & Tuhon Bill McGrath, and others in PTK ( Petiki Tirsia Kali ) which was REALLY an "eye opener" in regards to weaponry training, but, did not get certified to teach. My old JKD student, fellow Veteran, and very good friend Tuhon Tim Waid is now spreading the light when it comes to weaponry training. I hope this answers your question. Sorry for being LONG winded. Hope this answers your question.
I totally respect Wing Chun and welcome you to my home in Keller, Texas to experience how applicable this is for instilling tactile realistic street confrontations. I have students NO joke in several military and law enforcement agencies that have thought that this drill did instilled in them an instinctive tactile sense of response to their adversary's movement. Best to you and yours, really.
@@papamike3627 keep doing what you're doing, I'm an mma fighter and these drills are super cool for developing many things, these haters dislike attribute building drills but are okay with boxers on a speed bag 🤣
I have the HIGHEST respect for MMA fighters. But, this is a very BASIC drill which develops instinctive tactile responsives. It is a prelude to learn how to apply trapping whenever, some one blocks your initial blow. But, NOT everyone blocks. We like MMA fighters, counter punch and kick as the program proceeds and use JKD's inside and outside sliding leverage which is a blow that diverts a strike at the SAME TIME as the strike proceeds to it's target. You are ALWAYS welcomed to my home here in Keller, Texas, where we BOTH can exchange knowledge and perhaps create a friendship. I'm over 70, but, I am ALWAYS willing to LEARN and make new friends. Enjoy your Memorial Day, as a Veteran, it means a lot to me and hope you will give the RESPECT that is due those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
@@tomo2807 As an OLD fart at 70 plus, who has studied the arts since he was 10 starting with Grand Master Shigeru Oyama and JKD Legends Bob Bremer, James Sewell, and Tim Tackett since 1980, I consider it a honor Sir that you lent me your support!!! MMA fighters are always open minded !!! Thank You!!! You're ALWAYS welcomed in Keller, Texas.
@@papamike3627it's Tomislav from a different account, thanks for sharing your work, I love Jkd it's what got me into martial arts, if I ever get the chance to visit I'd love to train! And I just subscribed with both accounts 💪
I've been very fortunate to have trained under the late JKD Great Bob Bremer and have had the honor of training under JKD Sifu Tim Tackett since the EARLY eighties. I keep seeing new things as I practice JKD and I LOVE how Sigong Bruce Lee's Methodology toward self defense allows me the FREEDOM to explore. Please stay in touch. If you ever find yourself in Keller, Texas, please let me know.
@@papamike3627 Yeah man will do! I live in the UK but Texas is on list on places to go. Tried doing a bit of self teaching but was skeptical of some RU-vidrs authenticity.
NOT a hardass, but, I do LOVE learning and sharing even at the age of 70 years plus. Lol !!! My Sifu Tim Tackett has conducted several seminars... You're always welcomed to Keller, Texas.
@@KielCrassus Looking forward to meeting you and my home in Keller, Texas has a room with your name on it!!! Hope you LOVE BBQ... Do you know of Kwoklyn Wan in Leicester? He studied under my JKD Sifu Tim Tackett.
@@KielCrassusif you want to learn JKD look into Tommy Carruthers in Glasgow. He has online lessons as well. Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee’s first student considers Tommy the only person to ever come close to Bruce in terms of movement and attributes so check him out.
@@da90sReAlvloc All martial arts are related in one way or another, but, Wing Chun was developed by a Female Monk and I'm sure Kenpo has some form of trapping, but, to be honest, I'll have to claim ignorance since I've never studied it. But, of course, I have heard of the great Ed Parker.
Pennylane, it's hard work, but, if you have any questions at all, please let me know. Be sure to get a good glove for your prominent hand. I use my left primarily, so, my best friend gave me a cotton glove that seems to work well for me. Also, ask your manager if you can have your store provide you with one that they sell in the store. You can use the Zebra to acquire one at NO cost if that's the device your use like Kroger does. "Papa Mike" a fellow polar bear... Kroger Store # 532 Lol !!!
the term hack is actually really old and referred to the early US colonists tendency to fix or make things with very little. For example the furniture made with a hatchet.
@@papamike3627 Fun training and learning martial arts. Keep it up! Iron fist is pretty crazy. Would be awesome to have the discipline of a Shaolin monk. Very amazing things everyone got at their leisure :)
Really APPRECIATE the encouragement!!! Have a friend who was a professional stuntman and choreographer who trained under JKD Sifu Icon Bob Bremer in Jeet Kune Do ( Bruce Lee's Methodology in Self Defense ) like I did, but, he has been in show biz for years unlike myself " a NEWBIE " Lol !!!. "Mr. Hollywood" is his nickname and has been good friends with Harrison Ford's brother, Terrence ( a film director ) as well as, having been at the Ford residence several times. If you're curious about Jeet Kune Do, I started a posting on instagram@jkdfridaynightgroup .
Nice trick buddy. My trick is to make a few inch cut at the very middle of the tape at the center of the box enough for your fingers to slip in then just pull up quick. The tape separates perfectly down the middle each time. It allows me to be quick whether I have a box cutter, keys or a regular ol coin. Sometimes I even use my id or bank card lol
Glad you approve Jim!!! We will also go over what to do when some one should do when their awareness level was poor and allowed their attacker to actually push and pull them!!!
REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR kind words!!! Working on another hack or tutorial now on how to solve the ZEBRA and PRINTER communication problem that comes up now and then!!! ( i.e. You press print on the ZEBRA and the PRINTER prints blank labels.)
Sorry for the delayed response, but, been really busy with Thanksgiving and of course, Christmas!!! It's really up to you, if you can move really FAST and want to stay in great shape, it's FROZEN. As of now, in our Diary Section here in Store # 532 in Keller, Texas, we have JOHN and VICTOR who really work their butts off and really communicate well !!! And it's NOT as cold as FROZEN... For Sure!!!
