Making those errors and noting them in the video is extremely helpful and enlightening. I would encourage you to continue making mistakes for the benefit of us viewers. :)

Ha! I prefer not to make the mistakes, but I'm glad the corrections have been helpful :)

Thank you so much for the videos! 9 years old and still helping people. I thought I could learn the game just from the rulebook but yikes! So much seems to go unexplained or left to interpretation. I think you are right and watching it played is the best way to learn. I did notice all your cards are sleeved, is that recommended for some reason? Thanks again for helping me to learn the game!
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 4 года назад
So glad you enjoyed John! Sometimes sleeves makes shuffling easier, but I don't use sleeves these days as much as I used to. Many people use them to keep their games in pristine condition, I worry a little less about that these days - but yes, for games with a lot of shuffling, it can be nice.

According to the unofficial FAQ on BGG, Driven by Shadow's When Revealed effect only applies to cards in the staging area at the moment the card is revealed.

At the beginning of this episode you mentioned you forgot to add three quest tokens to the current quest but didn't you add three quest tokens to the Mountains of Mirkwood at the end of the last episode?

I am very happy to see that you get multiple copies of (some?) cards, the other living cards game from FFG only has one copy,except from a couple of special ones, so to get a full playset of 3 (the maximum allowed in a deck), you would have to buy three copies of the core set.

Hey Rodney! I have a question. The Hummerhorns Enemy Card reads "deal 5 damage to a hero when it engages you". But what about if you engage it first? Would it still deal its 5 damage?
@Tennethums1
@Tennethums1 6 лет назад
Emile oooo, a 4 year old question! I’ll answer! 😇 yes, you would take the damage still. (Page 16 of the Core set rulebook, paragraph 3 of the “engagement checks” section) - anytime engagement occurs, whether initiated by the player or by the enemy, “engagement” means the enemy has engaged with you and you have engaged with it, simultaneously.

Out of curiosity, sine I'm watching your older videos now...can you kindly name the games that are shown off in your opening? I'm intrigued especially by the first one that looks like a H.P. Lovecraft mythos of some sort with the tiles and miniatures....

+jayson olson Mansions of Madness is the first one, then Wrath of Ashardalon, Small World and Space Hulk. We have playlists for each. Mansions was the first series we did.

@watchitplayed I've really enjoyed your explanation and gameplay! I'm glad I found your channel through looking up more on lotr lcg. I'm thinking I'll buy it, would you highly recommend it? Also, I'm curious to hear your top 5 board games/card games. I hope to hear back from you!! Thanks!

Hey Brian, thanks for the interest! My channel is a little different as I don't review or recommend - I don't feel I can say for someone else what they would like or enjoy, as every gamer has different taste. So instead, I show you exactly how the game works and then hopefully you can make up your own mind about whether or not it would be a good fit for you.

For a second, do you return enemies after the combat phase - if they are still alive - to the staging area or are they remaining in the engagement area and when yes for how long
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 9 лет назад
They remain engaged with the player until they are killed, or some other effect changes where they are placed.

Ok, So I am new to the game and this series is really helping me understand the game flow but I do have a question (3years later)! At 13:02mins in the previous episode (S02E07 - Lord Of The Rings LCG - Turn 5b - 7a) you defeated the Dol Guldur Beastmaster and then placed 3 progress tokens (based on Legolas' ability & attachment) on the active location at the time (it was Mountains of Mirkwood) and then proceeded with its "Response" text before discarding the location as completed. Why then, at the start of this video did you place another 3 progress tokens (again based on Legolas' ability & attachment card) on the active quest having already done that action against the Mountains of Mirkwood location? Is that not a double move/duplication in error? I don't see it called out as an error anywhere but can't see where it allows you to perform Legolas' action twice and is it not the case that a location will buffer any progress tokens towards the quest if that location is active? This is a bit of a rules "bump" I can't get my head around if it is not a mistake! help!
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 10 лет назад
The 3 Progress tokens I failed to add were from the attack against the Spider in that last episode (not against the Dul Guldur Beastmaster). In the last episode, go to 7:20 and you'll see that when Legolas defeats the spider, I forget to add the necessary Quest tokens, booth from his ability and the attached weapon. Hope that clears it up.
@ciaranmorris2346
@ciaranmorris2346 10 лет назад
***** Ah! Perfect - thanks for the reply, I just kept (wrongly) associating that move with the most recent combat result (despite you clearly stating it was in regards the spider). Thanks again for the wonderful series - it really has gotten me over much of my early fear that this game would be just too complex, but as you stated, repetition is the key!
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 10 лет назад
Ciaran Morris I had the same concern when I got started, so I'm thrilled you're getting the hang of it. Glad to help :)
@09mpa

Sort of confused why you placed three progress tokens on the quest card after defeating the king spider with Legolas...still sort of learning!
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 10 лет назад
The text on Legolas' card says that when he participates in a fight that kills an enemy you get to place 2 progress tokens on the current quest. He's also using a sword that adds an additional progress token for killing enemies. Does that help clear it up?
@09mpa
@09mpa 10 лет назад
Then what is the reasoning you placed 3 progress tokens on the active location in the next video (at 13:00 exactly)...I guess my question is more about the rule that dictates how many progress tokens go on the quest card and/or active location. Where are you getting the numbers for how many to place? Thanks so much for the help!
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 10 лет назад
Manny Pérez Hey Manny - no worries, happy to help. If you're uncertain about knowing how many tokesn to place, I explained that I am being told how many to place from Legolas' card text and the card text on his attachment. Do you perhaps have a copy of the game? If you pulled those cards out to look at, it might make it clearer. The other possibility is that you're unclear on how active locations work. Progress tokens always go on the Quest card unless there is an active location, in which case progress tokens must then be assigned there first before they can go to the quest again. Does that help?
@09mpa
@09mpa 10 лет назад
It certainly does! So to clarify, progress tokens aren't placed on active locations or Quest cards unless there is specific card text in play that dictates to do so?'
@WatchItPlayed
@WatchItPlayed 10 лет назад
Manny Pérez There are other ways to get progress tokens on quests and active locations, but in the situation you were asking about, it was because of the card text that progress tokens were added. You may benefit from a quick re-watch of the instructional video.
