All the heavy hints convinced me that Halbrand is a misdirect. I reckon we've not seen Sauron yet, he's somewhere in Lindon, influencing Gil-galad and making him believe he needs to get the mithril to save the elves, so that Sauron can use the mithril to make the rings.

I agree. He says to Elrond that precious few know of the elves situation. One of his trusted advisors or a completely different person might make more sense. My running theory is Halbrand will be a Nazgûl who accepts one of the rings. 9 were given to the Kings of Men. Definitely gonna need some kings to accept those. The alternative to being he is the king of the dead which would also make sense
@randyjax09
@randyjax09 2 года назад
It would be kinda foolish not to introduce a character as omnipresent as Sauron early on, especially if they’re planning to do a misdirect. Considering how arrogant the show-runners have been about this series, I think they probably convinced themselves that nobody would see Halbrand coming. The only other character that might make sense it Celebrimbor, but that would upend a lot of Tolkien’s lore.

The River is the River Sirion. The principal river of Beleriand during the First Age. When Adar is talking to the Orcs to hype them up before the battle he talks about them marching from the Ered Mithrim. These are the mountains in the Northernmost region of Beleriand and Lake Mithrim there was one of the main sources for the Sirion. Gil-Galad's father was king in Tol Sirion, the city in the mountains to the south called Ered Wethrim. At first glance to me this seems to be the connection. Adar was very likely an Avari Elf, the branch that refused to go to Valinor and possible source of coorupted Elves Morgoth used.

About the rivers in the armours of Adar and Gil-Galad... I think many of us believe is a design with rivers from Beleriand. Probably the Mouths of Sirion (the delta of the river), quite important for the past/story of the elves (kind of a safe haven for them from Morgoth during many years. Tokien says that Gil-Galad was there for a while too as did Eärendil before sailing West, even the refugees from the fall of Gondolin went there. It plays a part in the story of the Silmarils too, before ending in ruins. Even the Valar went there before, when they finally decided to join the war to defeat Morgoth) or may even be Gelion. Adar also told Arondir that he remembered Beleriand (after asking him where he was from) and asked about the mouth of the river (Sirion), then said: "I went down that river once, when I was young, I remember..."
@victoriarbis
@victoriarbis 2 года назад
Some Tolkien fans are discussing if Adar is partially an inspiration from some Silmarilion/other books elves -who also lived in that region-, like for example Maeglin or Maglor. Anyway, looks like they are kind of doing their own version of Eöl (of fallen elves) and that´s great.

These are postmodern concepts were you gray out everything. But LOTR isn't a postmodern story, there is a clear distinguish between good and evil. Also seeing LOTR in this postmodern light isn't something new. So, you been irritated that Galadriel wants to eradicate all the orks, is the result of living in the postmodern world. (Even that you had seen orks killing innocent people just a few moments earlier) I have a short real life parable for this. I worked at a training facility, and from time to time we would get problems with rats and mice, so we set up traps. Once we had a young woman who was really upset with that, because...rats and mice are cute and have the right to life and it's barbaric and gruesome to kill them etc...so she would sabotage the traps. That changed the day the rats had discovered her personal stack of goodies, after that she went into full Galadriel mode concerning rats and mice.

Elves in fantasy are like always evil. They're a bunch of elitists that think they're better than all of the other races, know no wrong, and are justified in using the other races to accomplish their needs. They're like Vulcans. Pointy eared bastards telling humans that they're barely better than apes. So if you understand Vulcans, then you understand Elves, cause they're the same thing.

Ohhh elves can be VERY flawed in Tolkien's story, threatening to commit genocide is pretty mild compare to what Galadriel's uncle Feanor did in the first age. He single-handed caused the entire Noldor race to be banished from their home by the gods, some of his sons are not that much better either.

The Yavanna reference was fairly clever. Elves love Yavanna, who loves trees. Dwarves love Aule, who created the dwarves and is the god of smithing. Yavanna was *married* to Aule, but they both knew the dwarves would cut down lots of trees, and it seems they had a fractious relationship (for gods). It also hints at the love/hate relationship between the Elves and the Dwarves, Legolas and Gimli etc. From the Silmarillion: -"‘Eru is bountiful,’ Yavanna said. ‘Now let thy children beware! For there shall walk a power in the forests whose wrath they will arouse at their peril.’ -‘Nonetheless they will have need of wood,’ said Aulë, and he went on with his smith-work.

From what I remember, elves consider orcs as abominations and feel almost religiously compelled to destroy them. It makes sense if orcs are twisted elves, then the elves would consider it mercy killing. I don't think any of the characters we've seen are Sauron. He is likely in Eregion already and helping/influencing Celebrimbor to build the forge. In the books, he is most welcomed in Eregion after he repents. He doesn't come into conflict before he forges the one ring in Mt. Doom and the elves realize he was devising to control them. We will likely see him as Annatar at the end of the season with Celebrimbor introducing him as a "by the way, here is my friend who have been helping me" kind of way.

I will be alright with the reasonable possibility that Annatar is already in Eregion pulling strings. Yet so many Sauronic themes spill out of Halbrand they are heavily painting him as such. Why does Galadriel repeat Halbrand's line to her thousands of years later, about the tides of fate? I have had to accept either possibility. @JayGriffinblaze
@JayGriffinblaze 2 года назад
Goblins and Orcs are the same species. The names are the same. 'Orcrist' "The Goblin Hewer" from 'The Hobbit' evidences this. The movies confuse matters somewhat but generally: a.) goblins are the smallest and come from the areas aound the Misty Mountains b.) Orcs are essentially larger goblins and are in thrall to Sauron c.) Uruks are large Orcs (Not Uruk-Hai) and elite shock troops from Mordor or strongholds like Gundabad or Angmar. They are described as wearing the Red Eye of Sauron on their armour. Appendix B LOTR . See below d.) Uruk-Hai are Uruks bred with Mountain Men from Southern Gondor, the lands around the Isen River and Dunland by Saruman. They were either the White Hand or the elf rune for 'S' on their Armour and Treebeard describes them as "Great Orcs" to Pippin. There are also conflicting references that they are bred with "Goblin-Men" but it is unclear if these are a conjoined artificial race of Men + Goblins/Men + Orcs/Men + Uruks, an improvement of Sauron's Uruks by Saruman or a combination of all of the above. I'm inclined to believe the latter, seeing as Saruman/Curumo was the Maia for ingenuity, invention and innovation. Sauruman did this to breed Sunlight resistant troops.

It's kind of funny after watching this episode. I was so sure that Adar was Sauron. He was clearly "formerly" (I guess) an elf, now looking after orcs. I totally and completely forgot that Sauron did a complete sleight of hand and charmed all the races of middle earth with a fake persona. Of course Adar is not gonna be Sauron. But obviously they have met. And I think "I split him in half" could be a play on words, too. Maybe in the "Kylo killed Ben" or "Vader killed Anakin" sense? Ultimately, I don't think we've actually seen Sauron yet. Celebrimbor will definitely meet him, but we've only seen Celebrimbor the one time. I do think that Sauron will be an elf, though.

"Nampat"is a word meaning "death" in Black Speech. Yes, Sauron created The Black Hilt and it's a precursor to The One Ring. He controlled the people of the Southlands with it. He can also sense when it's used and that's how he knew where the battle would take place. Adar killed Sauron's "body" shortly after Morgoth was defeated and that made Sauron questioning himself and he was about to give up on his mission to "heal" the earth when he met Galadriel (that's why he says she did far more than just saved him). He had already been Halbrand for centuries as he built up the strength he lost when Adar killed his former body. That's why he's asking Adar "Do you remember me?", but Adar have never seen Halbrand before. Halbrand is good at pickpocketing (he took Galadriel's dagger from Elendil) and maybe he took the keys to Adar's shackles and gave them to Adar (since he knew what was coming).That's why Adar asked him "Who are you?". Moriondor is a Quenya word that translates to the "Sons of the Dark". It's the plural form of Morion ("Dark One"), which in the context of the legendarium was Morgoth's original name.

Galadriel survived the hot volcanic ash because she was bound to Sauron who has not made the one ring yet. the One Ring has the spirit of Sauron and binds the ring bearers but Sauron said he felt bound to her and so did she. She was protected by Sauron's powers. How did Halbrand get ahead of Galadriel who was riding the horse the fastest to be able to knock down the Adar the Uruk's horse? Halbrand has powers to protect. Halbrand had to die (be killed by the Uruk Adar) in order to obtain the dark power that was unwilling to give itself to him. He had to die and he did, and came back as Halbrand and other forms (to trick the Elves).

Am I the only one who noticed how Halbrand paused once he was asked if he was the king they were promised? And the way they shot it by having Bronwyn look at the pouch then ask him took me back to when he told Galadriel that the pouch was just something he took off a dead man, he might actually turn out to be a fraud, a simple smith maybe that used to work for Adar then betrayed the true king that was ready to swear fealty to the dark forces of Morgoth, thus explaining the "things he had done". That would explain why he was so eager to stay away from everything and everyone, to live in Numenor where no one would ever find out.
@coinsagE46m3
@coinsagE46m3 2 года назад
This was a great episode overall, but there are still some issues, contrivances, that raised my eyebrow. 1. How did Bronwyn's people get around the orcs when the two groups essentially switched spots, completely unnoticed? 2. How could Bronwyn's people not have know they were fighting other men instead of orcs? Orcs walk, talk, sound, bleed, and fight differently than men, so how they didn't notice is beyond me. 3. How did Galadriel's force know exactly where to go? The Southlands is a very big place, yet they knew to go right to the village where Adar's force was attacking? 4. How did Galadriel and Arondir not notice Adar switched that dark sword hilt for a simple axe? Never mind that they are shaped way differently and the hilt probably weighs much more than the axe, but several times through the season it seems to exude a certain mystical-ness, sort of like the one ring, that people notice. I feel like Arondir, who's been in its presence before, should have been able to tell without much difficulty.

Unpopular opinion: I think Gil-galad is suuuuper sus. He’s giving me extreme Sauron vibes and I feel like he misled Elrond and Celebrimbor about the Mithril being important for Elves to stay alive. I remember in the Hobbit when Thorin gives Bilbo the Mithril armor, he said something along the lines of “it’s a gift of kings” because it’s extremely rare. Also in The Fellowship of the Rings, when Frodo “gets stabbed” by the orcs in Moria, even Gandalf is surprised to see his Mithril armor because of how rare it is. Here’s the thought process: Gil-galad says elves need Mithril or they’ll pass into the void and convinced Celebrimbor to request Elrond to help with ideas on building the forge; KNOWING that Elrond is friends with Durin IV and also knowing that they have “something of great value”. And as you’ve mentioned in past videos, the rings are made with Mithril. Coincidence? I’m not too sure. Or I could be incredibly suspicious of the least important person for no reason 😅

SAURON!. I bet its something like this. And na, Waldreg doesnt steal the sword... Charlie I have been waiting for your breakdown!! I'm waiting now and will edit my comment after watching! LOVE YOUR WORK!! Edit: okay I watched your breakdown, and I'm pretty much with you. TOTAL Sauron vibes, but I am expecting a misdirect. He does check all the boxes except I thoight that Sauron was supposed to hide as an Elf, not as a Man. The most beautiful I believe was the description. As soon as I saw the eruption, I out loud said "It's the beginning of the creation of Mordor!", you totally helped explain how it becomes the place where no light shines. The battle was a little underwhelming but I'm expecting something way bigger before the end of season 1. Still wondering why those cult looking people were at Metor Man's crash site. That is what has me second guessing who Sauron could be. I'm almost sure it is Halbrand, but just maybe we haven't seen him yet. Maybe the eruption was a sign showing thing at at a certain point ready for the next step to Saurons return. My biggest problems with this episode: - How did Galadriel and the Numenorians know where to go with such haste? - How in hell did Halbrand got in front of Adar and Galadriel in the horse chase? - Why would anyone give Halbrand a king title in a small village in the middle of a vast country? - How were the Numenorians so skilled fighting the orcs, since in the last episode, they didn't seem to know what to do with a sword, and Galadriel had to teach them some moves?

Did they ever explain why Arondir couldn't just find a horse and take the sword/hilt to Gil-Galad? Or why he didn't tell the Commander of the Northern Armies what it was when she handed it back to him? He knew it was some sort of key, something important to the Orcs, and he doesn't bring this to the *Commander's attention?

The sword is a meaningless Mcguffin. All the Orcs had to do was breach the dam, key or no key. That’s why I hate this show: I’m smart enough to have gotten Bs in school.

@@CorePathway I mean the Orcs shown so far don't seem to be large enough in number to attack a well fortified position like that nor do they have siege weaponry from what I can tell. Additionally, the dam was extremely high up on a cliff so I doubt siege weapons could easily destroy the dam. Add to the fact that there is a level of secrecy wanted in order to not draw the attention of Lindon, Numenor, or Kazad-Dum (granted that just went out the window). It's a lot easier to get the "key" and use it to open the stone gate than to try and destroy something that was probably designed to protect against the very suggestion you have.

@@Eagledelta3 dude, if the Orcs can dig a 50 mile ditch they can breach a dam. All you have to do is start the flow, the water will do the rest. But we are both over-thinking it, instead of the showrunners.

Galadriel is Sauron? She baits men to battle. She is mostly emotionless. She doesn't run AWAY from Mt Doom.

I think Meteor Man is Sauron. The closing shot in episode 1 of his crash landing looks like the Eye of Sauron from the movies.

Adar reminds me of a movie about the American Civil War. I cannot remember the name of the movie but it shows a doctor losing his mind and he starts killing soldiers from both sides. I can't remember what side the doctor was originally on either. I think it's based on a true story too?? Adar lost his mind because of the war and because of what he experienced in turn he created a following. Adar is to sauron what the villager is to sauron. Somebody scarred by war, by torture, etc. Looking for normal things but yet easily swayed by evil. It's almost like they're addicted to it. I don't think galadriel is attracted to halbrand. There's no evidence to back it up. Plus it's only been 1 season. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Sauron could be close to Lindon because of the tree, maybe he is the reason it's corrupting because he's in close proximity to it? Speaking of Lindon Galadriel hasn't gone back yet. That's going to be an interesting conversation. I did find it strange that the high King believed sacrificing Galadriel would make the corruption on the tree to stop.

Diverting the river into the volcano would generate steam, if the steam pressure was high enough it would generate an ash explosion eventually, but once the opening was big enough it would just create steam.
