FILM DESCRIPTION:
The culmination of nearly 10 years' work and conclusion to Peter Jackson's epic trilogy based on the timeless J.R.R. Tolkien classic, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" presents the final confrontation between the forces of good and evil fighting for control of the future of Middle-earth. Hobbits Frodo and Sam reach Mordor in their quest to destroy the `one ring', while Aragorn leads the forces of good against Sauron's evil army at the stone city of Minas Tirith.

I have known a lot about spiders ever since I was little, and back in 2003 when this was in theaters, I was blown away at how inaccurate the spider sting was.

I love how Sean Astin makes it clear that Sam is absolutely terrified here - listen to how his voice shakes when he says “you will not touch him again” - but his overwhelming love for Frodo and rage at Shelob for hurting him make him totally forget his fear.

And that is exactly what puts Sam up there with the likes of Gilgamesh and Hercules. Confronting pure evil in battle without an ounce of hesitation. He would make a fine addition to heavens armies if he were one of gods angels.

It's similar in that regard to Eowyn's showdown with the Witch-King, which almost ends horribly for her. Her terror is palpable on her face, but she holds her ground for love of her uncle. Two of the most effective elements in these movies are: 1) how formidable the forces of evil are and 2) how strongly beat the hearts of its good characters when it comes to friendship, love, and loyalty.

One can only imagine what he did to Rosie cotton at the end of the film. Facing down the spider crushed his fears for the rest of his life. So he was no longer shy to approach Rosie.

One of the biggest reason Sam is my favorite is embodied in this scene. Sam is not a warrior, he's not the biggest, he's not the strongest, he's not the most skilled, but he's the most bravest. He knows at times he's outmatched, but he pushes on and faces his enemy anyway for the sake of those he cares about. Really inspirational

I love that line, come on let's finish it. Showing Sam has so little regard for his life when it comes to protecting his friends life. Most would hesitate, show fear and trepidation, Sam knew either he would win or lose, but let's get it over with, because he was going to do everything he could to save his friend.

The fact that Shelob sounds like a human baby when she’s hurt was a massive mistake for the movies. It might just be my love for spiders but when Sam stabbed her my reaction was “No don’t!” Instead of anything positive because of that cry.
