For the newcomers who don't know what the early steam sales were like: The sale was divided into 3 sets of discounts for most games, the base discount running for the length of the sale, steeper daily discounts that would run each day, and even steeper flash discounts that would change every few hours. Hence "Wait for daily!" Since then, they've wisely decided just to make it a flat discount through the length of the sale. I suspect the Refund policy changes were probably the prime motivator behind that change.
I know this is replying to a 3-year old comment, but just to add to this piece of history I believe the EU also had a hand in it. It was considered unfair marketing by the European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager since if you wanted the best deal, especially the flash sales, you had to check back on Steam quite often since the flash sales ran on an 8-hour system (so 3 flash sales a day), and that was considered not to be a good enough business practice by the EU.
man the good old days, back when steam sales were actually sales, and valve was still a medium sized company. 2012-2016 was peak valve. after that the company started just becoming another faceless corporation
Actually, it was because of a country banning flash sales, was it france, i think? So valve just killed it entirely instead of having to deal with the regional bs
Especially with .60 it's still more complete than many games in full release. Most major games spend several years in alpha, Dayz was kind enough to let us play through the progress.
IT IS TIME TO BUY MORE GAMES ON SALE WE WON'T PLAY FOR YEARS!!! ARM UP MY FELLOW STEAM SALE SOLDIERS!!! AND REMEMBER, STICK TO DAILY SALES, WEEKLY SALES, AND ANYTHING 75% OR MORE THAT IS OF HIGH QUALITY!!! MAY THE SAVINGS BE WITH YOU!!!
I remember when I was first drafted in the war. I was a noob who just discovered games outside of Nintendo. my first battle was in the harsh winter. I was nervous but held strong. my first kill was the portal games for 60% off I think. I've grown since then. now as we push closer to the winter sales, we remember that the spoils of war makes it all worth it.
I will never forget that war, it was hell on us all. I still have PTSD every now and then remembering being out there in the frontlines all alone, watching all those wallets get kill instantly.
True story, I once bought so many items during the 2012 sale my bank froze my account and asked me to come in person to the bank to confirm they are all my purchases.
"I got the Witcher 3...for 3 dollars!!! Trish...If ever there was a girl I would marry...It woulda bean 'er! IT WOULDA BEAN 'ER!!! I remember the vineyards of Toussaint. The wine, as fine as the hillsides. Do-ya remember the Witcher 3? Mr. Frodo??"
iamthedarklord1314 I didn't state why my day sucked or go "oh woe is me" on anyone. This comment was made for the creator of the video to say my thanks for giving me a good laugh after a bad day. For all you know, someone close to me could have died or I could have had some things stolen from me. Or it could have been something as stupid as I burnt my dinner and now my day is ruin deal. I could be a "weak maggot", but not everyone will be strong through the trials they face in life 100% of the time. At least I had the balls to admit I had a shitty day. Given I didn't think this comment would get as many likes as it did.
The enemy approaches from the north, about 2 days out. The army that marches even now comes towards us with discounts of up to 90%! We might not win this battle, and many of us will become broke, but in the end it is not our wallets that matter, but instead how full our library is of games that will bring forth an era of glory and gaming!
The Void well i made the comment 2 days before, now i am but a defeated man, but i fought valiantly againts my bordem, and at the sacrifice of my wallet, i conquered the discounts! And filled my library of the games for months to come!!!
CrySuz NOR I doubt anyone will stop downloading it,it's mainly the uploader who they look for but due to the introduction of magnet links,it's very hard and too troublesome for authorities to track what is being downloaded. Plus most uploaders find ways to upload through TOR making it near impossible to track them. Also downloading stuff is technically illegal but it is not like stealing from the market. Stuff in the market is secure whereas downloadable stuff is as easy as taking something off the street. It's not exactly the same.
I bought it (had it gifted, actually), played it a handful of times, and never thought about it again. It's really not that great of a game. The optimization is horrible (FPS drops significantly in any town, even if you have the game downcranked low as fuck) and there's really nothing to do. The game barely survives on the novelty of human interaction in a scenario where you can flaunt wild-west style power over lesser players. The problem? The servers are max 40 players, and the map is absolutely massive. Finding someone to jimmy rustle is literally looking for the needle in a hay stack. Otherwise, your time is spent slurping between abandoned, low performance city after town after city, scrapping up 90% items you don't need or want, or maybe finding something "cool" if you're lucky. The zombies in the game are nothing but a hassle and honestly, fucking annoying. They have no physical collision with walls in the world and sometimes landshark through the earth. They're laggy, stupid, shitty, and buggy as fuck all. Nothing about fighting them is even remotely amusing. Repetitively looting yet another house? Suddenly, a zombie phases through the wall next to you, trapping you into a small corridor as it lamely attempts to beat the fuck out of you, of course failing miserably because there is no actual challenge there, it's just an annoyance and the game would be better off if it actually had no zombies at all. If you want a game that you spend 95% of the time wading through awful bullshit to get to the 5% of the game that's actually worth your time, DayZ is still not for you, because you actually spend 100% of the time wading through bullshit and nothing is fun or worth your time. GG. On top of it all, the updates are coming out slow as a piece of shit sliding down the side of a dew covered grassy knoll in the early morning. This is a game completely barren of real content people. Do not be fooled or duped into buying this game. Your 25 cents on the 99% off sale is better spent on a gumball machine in some sweaty, whore invested gas station along the side of a mostly abandoned highway. If you're looking for a survival game, Project Zomboid is pretty decent. The graphics are not it's selling point, but the gameplay mechanics are solid, the team does a blog update every Monday, and the updates come out at a steady pace. Project Zomboid definitely has a bright future. I would also suggest S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadows of Chernobyl, just make sure to check out the numerous mods for the game to bring it up to date -- the core gameplay has aged fairly well compared to any other title at a similar age. I would also recommend The Forest -- though I have not played it, I have heard nothing but good things about how good of an Alpha it is. Let this be a warning to anyone thinking of DayZ. It looks boring, because it is boring. My friend gifted it to me because he wanted someone to play it with and I'm pretty broke at the moment so I was not about to piss away 30 bucks on a game I knew would be a bland waste of time. I decided to give it a try anyways (it was gifted, after all). It was as boring and soulless as I thought it would be. It was so bad, I bought him CSGO and Project Zomboid (15 bucks each) to repay him, even though my bank account is seriously hurting, because I felt guilty for him wasting thirty dollars. Do not buy this game.
Man, the summer sales haven't even happened yet, and there's already amazing deals going on. I just got Hotline Miami 1 & the Digital Deluxe version of 2 for ~$6.30... Praise be to Gaben and his almighty sales!
Ok boys, it's been a harsh year, but we must do a last stand, these are the final sales, after this you will refresh and that, now go there and buy, but first, remember: -Rule N.1: You'll only buy games with 50% discount or more. -Rule N.2: You'll buy indies and other small games, but you'll only play them less than 2 hours. -Rule N.3: You'll buy every game under 2$ -Rule N.4: You'll not buy new AAAs because they're *EXPENSIVE!* -Rule N.5: You'll never stop playing games. -Exception to rule N.5: You'll only stop playing games to buy more games.
Finally got Borderlands 2, Dragon Age, Sid Meier's Pirates, Risk of Rain, Don't Starve, Hotline Miami, and Far Cry 1-3! :D I've been craving those games for a long time (well except Risk of Rain, which was a SWEET gift!).
Many belive that half life 3 is a myth, but brothers it is not, this is a test, if you give up on Gaben and convert to console then when the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse come; Microsoft, EA, Activision and Zynga riding their horses of Fanboys, DRM, Greed and Microtransactions (respectivley) you will be left behind to play their shitty games for all eternity, on xbone while being tourtured by Don Matrick while the rest of us who stayed faithful will be saved when Lord Gaben arrives riding the lightning and he will take us to half life 3. We will then join his army to reclaim Earth along with his valve employees, he will then kick Don Matrick's little fucking head in with the most holy of weapons, the crowbar, Earth will be saved and PC gaming will rule the land. SPREAD THE WORD
PC Gaming Master Race shall prevail. Whilst filthy console peasants have taken our precious bloodborne, we will get revenge over them with a fully 4K 60fps half life 3. Praise the lord Gaven.
If you had ever played any of the Half Life titles saga you would know is not all about that, besides i'm just saying consoles buying exclusive games is kind of frustrating
