I love their relationship. He wasn't disturbed that she wanted to spend it on shoes, he even gave her advice on what kind haha. I feel they've always had a better relationship since he wasn't as uptight as Emily.
He's definitely more mellow and less manipulative, but he's also more stuck in his ways. Emily you can work around if you realllllyyyy try hard, but Richard either removes himself from the situation or is just 'NO' and that's it.
The reason is because the moment Lorelai said shoes Emily would have lost her mind rightly so because it is the dumbest shit ever but Lorelai is joking but Emily never understood her ill timed jokes. Emily takes everything literally and Lorelai knows this but takes advantage of it just to piss on her mother nerves things would be much simpler if Lorelai was just straightforward.
I suspect that Lorelai has the same shrewd business acumen that her father has, given her success in buying and running the Dragonfly. I think that Richard always respected that. He also doesn't react to Lorelai's barbs the same way Emily does, instead opting to move on in such a way that Lorelai can't take offense.
Maybe but remember Lorelai used the $75000 to pay back what her parents gave her to pay for Chilton and it really upset Emily so it might have upset her again if Lorelai told this story.
No the story with het and her dad os suppose to be from her childhood. This is not plus Richard and Emily friends dont need to know how much Richard gave her.
Blair Brown, I appreciated your comment and feel this is such a lovely scene between the two of them. Pay no mind to that grump, D. Roberts. (I noticed his name grousing repeatedly on another clip.) I absolutely adored Edward Hermann; thoroughly enjoyed everything I’ve seen him in.
I really like this one, but my personal fave is when he caught her sneaking out of a boring blind date Emily had set up, and he doesn't blow the whistle on her escaping. =)
I doubt he actually thought she was really going to spend it on shoes. He knows her kind of humor and without Emily they can breathe a bit in conversation. Otherwise he’d prob find it ridiculous and selfish for a single parent to think spending 75,000 all on shoes is actually appropriate. Sure it’s her money at the end of the day, but the responsible pathway is spending it a way that will benefit your own family. Sure grandparents are rich and all, but if she actually wants to do something for Rory or even her finances life, that money would make sense going to help Rory, stuff like mortgage, wise investments, savings, emergencies, etc. When your a parent you can’t just spend the lottery winnings on a trip to Hawaii, and then complain about the challenges of financing independently your career life, personal life, kids life, etc, all on your own without assistance.
@@lauriecarson6483 She used her own money to get the inn because she had the extra money Richard gave her to pay Emily. Lorelai and Rory have a whole conversation about this on Rory's graduation day from Chilton.
Exactly! That’s why he was smiling while saying, “Enjoy the shoes.” 🥰 Also, he has the highest respect for successful business dealings, and Lorelai being overjoyed immediately instead of angry - was beautiful for him.
If I got 75,000$, the first thing I would do, after depositing a significant portion in my account, would be to send my family on a vacation to somewhere we could all enjoy!
@David Roberts why? You get to remove that debt that that might be hanging over your head for decades to come, and you may also avoid many thousands of dollars of interest you might have otherwise had to pay. Sounds great to me.
Damn, now I'm really happy to be European (German born, Russian heritage, studying in the Netherlands)! I could pay my entire tuition of four years studying Bachelor and Master of Psychology, rent, travel money, food, occasional vaccations, study material (such as a proper computer) and other living costs and still have money to get a few years of studying abroad in like three different countries or something! And I probably still had like 5000$ left for my apprehensionship as psychotherapist ...
she should use it for her house or her business endeavors (like opening the inn and whatnot). she's always saying she's broke that's why. or maybe even a great vacation somewhere. maybe a bunch of shoes but then spend on other things
I think she did use it for the inn. I could be wrong. It's been a while since I last saw it. Even then, it wasn't enough and she had to borrow money from Luke.
Well she was doing everything by herself from the age of 16 when she gave birth to Rory. It was only when they decided to enroll Rory at Chilton that she decided to start taking help from her parents. And she later uses the 75k to pay them back. She was definitely born into privilege, though.
@@gabygabytoy5612 but saying that just discounts everything she did prior, like working at the independence Inn as a maid whilst living in a shed with baby Rory and making her way up to management and getting a house. Later she then built her own business dragonfly inn with sookie and Michel for which she attended night classes at a community college on her own money etc. I agree she had some stuff handed to her like this 75k but even so it's a far reach to pretend she never supported herself lol
One thing I dislike about GG is how inconsistent they are regarding money. To get 75,000 out of an investment over 35 years you needed to invest ~15,000 dollars. They spent much more than that renovating the pool house - 40,000. Or that episode that Emily goes to the mall and starts buying everything - if I'm not mistaken one yoga mat was 800 dollars. You are telling me that in one day Emily spends more than Richard set aside for his first born child? Or that Richard had to call his business manager to make an investment similar to one shopping spree from Emily?
If I get pregnant and the father/donor is /wants to be a part of the child’s life I do want him to do this for the child in case he dies or becomes financially unstable . RIP RICHARD
@David Roberts If Hillary could pull that off in her particular housing market, sounds good to me. She might avoid many years of interest payments, as well as add significant value to her home. That means she should be able to ask a lot more in the future should she choose to take out a mortgage or sell the house.
Interestingly a couple years ago my dad was injured at work to the point of suing his former employer. He’d been kneeling on the ground fixing something and was run over(but not killed) by a road grater. He got almost $1 million from it and we were able to pay off our house, as well as my moms car.
And latter on when she use this money and pays her folks for Chilton, she act like is the noblest thing to do. When as a matter of fact, she didn't work at all to earn this, she was handed over that money by her folks in the first place.
it was, the honeat thing to do and who cares if Lorelai didn't work for the money. She hated asking for the money for Rory to go t o Chilton and paying her parents back was great.
@@lauriecarson6483 Because she is using the money her father gave her to pay the money her father loan her, that's why. Who cares if she didn't work for the money? I do, excuse me for taking pride in earning ones paycheck Mr. Cheapskate.
@@zidneya so what if she uses the check to pay her parents back. Does it really matter how she got the money. She paid them back and better then being in debt to her parents all the time. If that happens to me I would do the same thing. I see no problem ob how she paid them back.
@@lauriecarson6483 That in the end, you’re just the same freeloader you were yesterday. And any sense of dignity you have it’s just a lie. (Does it really matter how she got the money? Okay, I get it, you have no problem with stealing, I mean if you wanna defend this particular situation is one thing but that, but that you stop caring how people pay their debts in general?… Hahahahahahaha😂) She is still in her parent's debt, since she didn’t work to pay them back she just took (oh,hohohoho she didn’t even ask them for a loan we’re past beyond that now she just taking it) more money to pay them. You see no problem in how you pay them? You’re gonna have to be more eloquent if you wanna convince people that “Ponzi schemes” are a good idea. Hahahahahahahaha hey look at me, I just moved off my parent's home, I have my own place and live by myself, sure mommy pays my rent and my expenses, but who cares, I'll still take pride in paying my debts…Hahahahahahah🤣 I can’t even finish that statement without bursting into laughter.
"its the law that i get to keep 75.000 dollars" "enjoy the shoes" haha thats great only thing is, if i heard someone say as loud as she did that she got a check for 75,000 dollars i'd plan to jump em in the parking lot lmao
