This is the type of album Nardwar would pull out out of nowhere on vinyl perfectly preserved to ask you how it influenced not only you but entire generations to come for the next 20 years. For you to answer: Holly cow Nawrdwar!! How did you know that??
With how bad RU-vid treats it’s community at times, they have a strange but amazing knack to always recommend the shiniest hidden gem albums you’ve never heard
My daughter sent me here and I'm absolutely blown away! This album was my baby in 98. Thank you so much for all the kind words, everyone! I wish you all could've been at release party K2K had at the El Rey Theatre. Show of the century! All the bands on the disc were friends, and we played the whole night like a DJ set. Players from each band were changing places all night. The music never stopped. Maybe we'll have to do a Volume 2. Cheers!
Thank you for this wonderful piece of music. As I always said, spontaneous music is the best, never thought I'd find an album like this recommended to me on youtube..
I feel like Spotify subscribers are being scammed after using a free trial of it lmao. Such an inferior service and library with terrible app UX. And RU-vid recently added a button on certain videos that takes you from the RU-vid app directly to RU-vid music so you can easily add it to your library there. They can't be compared.
The late 90s and early 2000 was an incredible era for abstract underground trippy hip-hop vibes. Combined with the similar cover art style. Both were a match made in heaven.
For more music similar to this, I recommend the following: Amon Tobin/Cujo (same person, different "stage names"). Supreme Beings of Leisure The compilation album Wallpaper Mach 1.5 The Hotel Costes compilation albums The music used in Gran Turismo Sport (specifically those from Lenny Ibizarre and Kay Nakayama). The OST for the game "TOCA Racer Driver 3" Dzihan & Kamien (specifically the album "Gran Riserva"). Afternoons in Stereo Audio Lotion Beats Antique (specifically the albums "Contraption" volumes 1 and 2). One-T (album "The One-T ODC", absolutely astounding). Dadamnphreaknoizphunk (yes that is actually the artist's name). Moodorama (specifically the album "My Name is Madness"). Bonobo (specifically the album "Dial 'M' for Monkey"). TOKiMONSTA (specifically the album "Midnight Menu"). Emancipator (specifically the album "Baralku"). Röyksopp (specifically the album "Melody A.M."). The Pinker Tones The Chemical Brothers (specifically the album "Push the Button"). Thievery Corporation (very similar to Supreme Beings of Leisure, both used gratuitously in the early "Tiger Woods PGA Tour" golf games). RJD2 Xploding Plastix Cut Chemist Peder (a song from the album "And he just pointed to the sky..." was used in Breaking Bad) Faithless (albums "Outrospective", "Reverence" and "Sunday 8PM"). Gotye (albums "Like drawing blood" and "Boardface" (no longer available online likely due to sample copyright)). Hexstatic (album "Telemetron"). Mr. Scruff (album "Trouser Jazz"). The OSTs for the N64 games "Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA" and "Rush: 2049" The OSTs for the Trackmania games (specifically "Valley", "Canyon" and "Stadium"). The OSTs for the "Grid" games from Codemasters (specifically the original, 2 and Autosport). The OSTs for the F1 games from Codemasters (specifically 2012, and 2015 through 2017). The OST for the GameCube game "F-Zero GX". The OSTs for Forza Motorsport 3, 4 and 6 (3 and 4 very much fall into the category of lounge/spa music, 6 is a bit more intense/orchestral).
This is great! Mindspore was my record label, and this and the Cavestar album were the best that we put out. I still have enormous pride in what we did here. My favorite song on this album is L'Orque Epaulard (Killer Whale). I also really love Unsaid Warning and the lines: "are you running with your eyes closed... are you talking with your mind closed" "And now you say there's a devil flying through your head - and it looks like me". I will always appreciate the work that Kevin (Cavestar) did to put together the art and the whole package.
@@JesusChrist2000BC So, I thought about this question for a minute. I think the answer is no - it fit well in with what was happening then. Massive Attack was big, so was Groove Armada. (both had big releases in 1998). Now, what I'm pleased with, and what i did believe in was that our album would age really well - and it has. It really stands up well. And from that perspective it was "ahead of its time"
@@Tech-Tools-Talent Been spinning this for months! Trinity - Lost Cities sounds EXACTLY like something that would be released by an artist named Blood Orange. Incredible work for creating a sound 20 years ahead of its time.
@@Tech-Tools-TalentWell you were right on the money in that regard. Definitely a lot of genius in the 90s in music that created music that still sounds fresh and you guys are up there.
What an absolute hidden gem of an album, thank you so much for the upload. The RU-vid home page is quickly becoming my favorite place to find new music.
@@VOMITK0 An underwhelming, underappreciated comeback is all that's gonna happen. We've entered an era of hyper commodification where even album covers are just slightly edited copies of copies of something that may be original. There is noturning back from that as we're perpetually stuck digging in the cultural goldmine created in the 20th century.
That's because people were just getting into advanced graphical editing techniques, and everything was new and exciting. Ideas were fresh because the aesthetic was novel and futuristic. This is also during a time before the turn of the millennium when people still had hope for the future.
On track 2, 4:48, the sample seems to be a recording of Air France answering machine of the late 90s. @@davidhays2846 I find it funny that an artifact of the past like this survived through music. And I like how it kind of brings back to the time the track was made. :)
Just got this CD in the mail today because of this video. I know at some point the price is gonna spike. I think I was pretty lucky to find if for less than $10
I think because the main music composer of silent hill, Akira Yamaoka, was heavily influenced by groups like Portishead and Massive Attack. And those two groups can be seen as trip hop, which this album has a similar vibe to.
@@213ARod Yes haha it's the other way around xD A lot of games had this vibe because that's how the downtempo scene was back then. In my case, it brings me back to games like Gran Turismo and all the jungle dnb craze back then xD, Good times.
If I were to make an montage of urban backdrop with a late 90s aesthetic, this would be the music I'd use. Thanks algorithm, glad you bestowed this gem of an album to my suggestions.
I was born in 1984, and even of I can't clearly remember my teens years, listening to this genre brings me back to that sort of spiritual feeling of living in a futuristic world. Artists like Massive Attack, Aphex, Plug a.k.a. Luke Vibert, Kruder&Durfmeinster, Tosca, Zero7, Royksopp and all the others less known guys who contributed into developing this unique musical and ahestetic movement changed the prospective of so many people lives probably without even realizing.. 🙏
@@TimeTellsNoLies90 An early reviewer had this to say, "It feels both true to the original spirit and a continuation from where the first left off, all while taking things to new places." 🙏
I just recently dropped Spotify like simply i stopped paying them and stick to youtube premium only and that's it. Best decision of the year. More content etc
yo man, u can still have those days today, being lead into another direction than where the unknown future taught you to be what you always knew was right. Innocence becomes unnecessary where today a world would teach you back when you had it things were better.
I love these kind of Vibes. The late 90s and early 00s felt more future thinking and progressive in the electronic music scene. We get tons of “EDM” music nowadays, and while living in a more modern time, it just feels, mediocre or paint by the numbers 😮💨
An album worth buying...and yet so hard to find. Electronic music was emotionally different back then..you can literally feel the artists pouring their heart and soul into the track. Thank you for the share.
I saw Flying Lotus at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
This music is: I’m driving a 92 CRX, the air conditioner went out but it’s LA in the evening, so it’s ok it’s like 68 degrees and I have the windows down, driving on 3rd St going east past La Cienega then turning up La Brea and switching to Santa Monica Blvd. and going further and zoning out as traffic takes forever because we don’t have many left turn arrow lights yet. But that’s fine, I’m in no rush, I have this brand new 1998 tunes to listen to
