Well, this is why you win the first two games of a series, especially heading into a bullpen game. Of course, the bullpen game ended up not really being a bullpen game, and the pitching was the best part of the game for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who lost the series finale, 4-1. Elieser Hernandez and Eduardo Salazar took down all eight innings on the mound, allowing just four runs, but the offense never got it going. We'll talk about umpire Hunter Wendelstedt not having his best game and the near future of the LA outfield.

The balls are clearly out of the strike zone and call Otani out twice. I think I know the first time Ohtani 19:07 just couldn’t believe it. The ball was so low. He struck him out. I mean it’s frustrating to watch this guy. He must have something on somebody to keep his job, I would get fired from my job if I was that bad

i agree with the the need of robo umps for strike calls. i think the main issue is not so much about the accuracy of the strikezone but the consistency of it. fans want to know that it’s a fair game. if mlb is really serious about growing viewership, they need ensure the integrity of the game. that it’s worth something to root for.

Go back and watch Game 5 of the 2017 World Series. And then look at the fact that Bill Miller has umped in the playoffs every year since then, including two more World Series, and then you'll know what would happen if it happened in the World Series.

on the pitch umpiring..i’ve been watching baseball a long time, a trend that seems consistent, the more tenure a umpire has the more brazen he is to a)exercise his own style b) he doesn’t stay with the pitch or doesn’t care enough to get it right..i noticed the ump Wendelstadt, i was going to mention Harry, i remember him being flamboyant and he wanted to be the center of attention, the good umps you don’t notice.

If there is a phantom IL, Hayward is on it. He could be back today, he could be back yesterday, but they don’t have a roster spot right now. He had “back tightness” which is the same thing they said Ohtani had, and he was only out for one game. I know it’s not necessarily the same thing but they used the same term to describe it. Also Hayward said he’s ready whenever the team is ready to call him back. It’s no longer his health that is keeping from coming back. I think it’s time to rip off the bandage and DFA CT3.

Factor in the loss was Dave Roberts using the 3rd game to try out newbie pitchers, to see how they would do under pressure. The result wasn't surprising.

I mean, sure, if the Dodgers had allowed zero runs, the would have won 1-0. But if you watched this game and blame the loss on the pitchers and Dave Roberts, you're just looking for something to blame Roberts for.

It was as little of a factor as a manager can possibly have in a game. The roster construction and the decisions about how to handle most of their pitchers (all of which he has very little control over) dictated that they needed a spot start. The spot starter pitched excellently. Dave Roberts was 0% a factor in this loss.

@@LockedOnDodgers Fine, We'll have to disagree on that. I saw the game. A number of issues contribute to a given loss. Pitching choices are one of them, as well as bad umpire calls at the plate, etc.

Why does MLB put up with the umps and their union? No fan cares about the umpires and not a single fan would pay a single penny to attend a game to watch the umps, not to mention the ego on some of these guys. Robo umps can't come fast enough.

it really sucks when an ump squeezes a pitcher, one pitch that’s obviously a strike 3, called a ball can change the complexion of a game or when a hitter is battling, fouling off pitches, and then gets rung out on a pitch obviously off the plate. I just want umps to care. I don’t want robots, just make the umps accountable.

I think they probably care. I just think it's impossible for the human eye to get all the calls correct, so it's crazy that they're tasked with that job when there's a much better option.

On the Hernandez thing, his start was better than some we’ve seen so far this season from the highest paid pitcher in baseball, at least until next year. And that’s not to knock Yamamoto but to praise Hernandez. It would be a shame to lose him
