Motoring through LA in the early 1950s one's shocked to see freeways that are wide open, streetcars, even Model A Fords still on the streets, a bustling downtown and the first malls, a Ford and Chevrolet Factory and it all looks so clean.

@@scj6693 It amazes me as well, especially seeing paintings from the 1800s through the 1500s -- it tells me how much the old masters tried to replicate their days in color and in accuracy. The future will have an abundance of film from our time haha.

DisobeyToday -Yeah, I think 1964 was the last good year that had a little 50s carryover. After that the hippies, Vietnam, etc. stained most everything that followed. The bad part of the 50s was racism & medical & computer technology was still in the dark ages. Otherwise it was the time to be in.

Sweet Pea there are still so many reasons that time or era was superior to today’s. Yes, we are all grateful that race relations and racial equality has improved in 2019, but not everything has improved. The family unit hardly exists anymore, people are narcissistic and more concerned about their Instagram post than thinking about others around them, and tho there is more equality amongst different races, I feel there is a lack of unity as most politics, media, and education has become so divisive. Equality for women has also improved, but at the same time, men are afraid to simply be men as it is labeled toxic. That toxicity is the same “toxicity” that allowed the world to see peace in the early 40’s. But no one cares to think about all that being a man actually entailed. It doesn’t sound nearly as interesting as male patriarchy, a term everyone loves to throw around today. Courage and selflessness to defend a country with your own life as many did in ww2...we’d be screwed if we were actually invaded in 2019. People care only about themselves and when you have a selfish society, you have a weak, unhappy society. That’s 2019.

CA.... The smog was awful in the 1950s. Smog began in 1943, traced back to war industries (20 years of manufacturing and oil production compressed into 5), backyard trash burning (banned in 1957), and uncontrolled car exhaust all contributing factors. People with respiratory diseases and weak hearts were instructed not to go outdoors. It wasn't until Nixon signed an executive order for the Environmental Protection Agency that things started to happen to clean the air quality, not only in California but in manufacturing centers across the country.

Shain Andrews that's why the crime rate was so low no one could commit crimes with that damned music playing all the time! that explains why 50's cartoon villains had there own themes in the shows. they where outcast because these song was not appealing enough to be socially acceptable. Americans cannot handle the psychological torture. of the constant music you need to cut social interaction to the absolute minimum. destroy the quiet streetcars in order to replace them with loud buses. but It did very little to remedy the situation; so Americans begin to buy cars at a pathological rate to drown out the music with car engines. the societal trauma can still be seen till this day.

Than over night it went from MC Hammer, Snap, Vanilla Ice, Public Enemy, Run DMC Beatie Boys, etc to gangsta rap Ice Cube, Dr Dre, Ghetto Boys, Snoop Dog, etc. I heard it was done on purpose via private prisons. The people who owned prisons also owned the rap record companies. People would listen to rap, live out the lifestyle portrayed in the music. This would increase prison population thus making more prisons and more money for the people running them.

@@josefromtexas Brainwash?! LOL! I lived and visited the Los Angeles area several times since I was born there and I witnessed to see these places where I lived. The last visitation of Los Angeles was two years ago for attending the baseball game at Dodger Stadium and visiting friends. The deterioration of the quality of life showed evidence through time. I saw a lot more homelessness, graffiti ubiquitous, incredibly high unaffordable housing costs, high taxation and more regulations, much heavy traffic, high crime, increasing neighborhood segregation as rising numbers of gated communities, a surge of illegal migrants, and the corrupted state government. The golden age of California was in the 1950s and 1960s. That was the booming era. My parents, grandparents, grand uncle and aunt, and I lived in those old days. I was the last one who departed California in the mid-1980s. None of my relatives, including me, are no longer living in California today. Today California is a shattering state, and people are moving out than moving in. Even my friend in southern California will move out soon after they lived so many years in California. He said that high-taxation California became Mexifornia. 😢
