Lionheart Roar My uncles wife was friends with a man who was once Selena’s driver when she came down to LA. He said he drove Selena, her sister & her brother around a lot. Mostly just Selena & her sister as they did a lot shopping. He would drop Selena in and out of Capital EMI offices. At the time he had no clue who she was and Selena never once mentioned what she did for a living. One of his interactions he had with her he asked her why she frequented EMI’s offices. She said she was going to record a pop album. He joked around and said well when you make it big send me a signed copy... This was in 1992. He told me in his head he never thought she was serious because of how much she joked around with him. He thought it was just another sarcastic joke but later on when he drove her again in late 1994. He started noticing people coming up to her for autographs. When she got in the car he joked around with her asking how much did she pay them to do that. They laughed it off. The next time he heard of her he found out she was murdered and it was all shocking to him to find out the extent of who this young woman was.. to him all she was just this hilarious silly young girl. At the time while she was alive and doing her thing he said a young lady who looked like Selena.. that young and chicana as ever was not a thing in Hollywood. Which is why he never took her serious. He says he regrets sorta down playing what she was telling him about her goals to be a pop artist. He chuckled at the idea but now seeing her video performances he says she totally had that shit in the bag. At the time the world just wasn’t ready. She was way ahead of her time and he says 25 years later we’re just now catching up to her. Which is why she’s as relevant as ever.
