The art of finessing the drags...it’s what people need to understand especially if your new to the hobby... just because it says RTR doesn’t mean there’s still not tweeking to do... and truly that’s what makes the hobby so special...🏆
I just bought the roller kit and all 4 shocks were only about half full , and basically had water in them the fluid was so thin . I removed the inner stops ( expanding stops ) on the front shocks and filled them 15k , and the rear I put smaller stops inner and outer to get some suspension movement and added 40k , it launches so much better as well as gets traction on the stock tires , before it would just blow the tires off and go sideways , now itll actually launch and go straight . I really think losi just tossed these things together to shove em out the door , im super disappointed in the attention to details . But now it's a driveable launch able drag car . Can only go up from here . Great video, love all the tips and inputs , thanks !
Earl, your videos are the best. You move slow and explain why you do what you do. I'm extremely new to RC Drag Racing but your videos have been invaluable to me!!! I want to say thank you and keep the videos coming. Your help tuning my car is very important!!!
I learned a little today as I usually don't rely on the stock shocks of any RTR, I am lazy so I change them to aluminum body to shortcut the process in making projects tunable.
Nice I’m still waiting on my blue camaro 22s Losi hopefully soon as it was supposed to be here on the 20th of June arrma behind on the second shipment 👀🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

The shocks that you said LOS333001 are Losi short course truck rear shocks they are longer than the shocks that we use on the 22S drag car we use LOS333000 for all shocks on the drag car
There telling me it’s longer it was inside the owners manual for upgrades for the 22s I’ll show how to lower a shock with fuel tubing on the inside it should work good after the cheap modifications 👍👍
@@earlmoorhead5555 🤣😂I was going to cancel my orders but man it was a challenge to find those Shocks, I figured I would probably use them at some point. I would have to check but did you or garage guy have a video on this?
Earl, have you ever set the front shocks so they extend easy, and keep the front wheels barely touching the pavement, when it wheelstands, and retract slowly when the front end comes back down? I see a lot of grudge racers are setting up their cars full size race cars to run like that.
The shock are not completely bad, but only ifnyou put limiter inside, once you take out the limiter they can bing when they are completely extended. That shock can work great if you put limiter other wise changed. In my 22s I'm using Redcat shock Volcano, they work fine for me, I drop front and rear
If you plan on doing no prep you might as well just take those shocks and just throw them out because in order to get a car without a gyro to go straight you got to do a lot of work you got to do rear steer so you need better shock towers with more adjustments off the rip you're going to want better suspension obviously sway bars in the rear so the suspension that comes with really ain't set up for it
My right side shocks were not filled completely with shock oil on my brand new Losi no prep. And the wires for head and taillights were duct taped on which the rear tire was rubbing through the wires and the rear body post grabs a wire.
My 22s went 2.90 out of the box just took two clips from left rear shock and backed off the slipper 1/8 a turn has a lot more in it also on a 7.4 2s lipo 🤙🏻🤙🏻
If you have a hobby wing 1080 LED program card (the $10 or $11 one) It has worked with all my Spectrum ESCs. Also I do not have my losi car yet it is on the way but it says that there is 40 weight shock oil in the front and 70 weight in the rear. Also i printed adjustable threaded shock sleeves for Traxxas ultra shocks that act just like threaded body shocks with a nut on them and everything to fine tune the spring. When my losi arrives in a few days I will measure those shocks and print a couple shock sleeves for those also. I know the spacers work but having a threaded body shock is much better to make a quick adjustment when you're out testing. If you have a 3D printer I'll share the file with you.
@@earlmoorhead5555 Yeah the old hobby wing program card. The one that comes with the crawler 1080 ESC. It works just fine. I am no RU-vidr but I made a video and it's on my RU-vid just to show people that it does work on both Spectrum and BLX ESCs. Here is the spectrum firma video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YcE_WLoMC9Q.html
I just seen a commercial for the pro line , buggy Body. It'll fit that with some slight modifications.( I might be hooked they're trying to real me in)$$$$$
@@earlmoorhead5555 You live in the valley too? Awesome, I live in the Central Valley, Modesto 209. There’s a 209 rc drag club, but those dudes are wicked fast. Showed up last Sunday with my box stock losi, just to start getting some ideas, (should have watch your videos more thoroughly, my ideas sucked), and I felt like a 50 year old idiot, compared to there rigs, They were just practicing, but they were getting 1.95 75mph hits., or they were full of shit, I just know it was quick, and straight. Thanks for the videos. I’m going to watch them from the beginning to your last one just to try and get your 49mph on 23t pinion. It looks like you might have backed off the slipper possible 1 full turn, and then once again, a little more?
Thanks for the video Earl. Good stuff! What startup battery do you recommend for my Losi Camaro No Prep. Manual recommends Spectrum 7.4 5000mAh 2S 100C Smart Hardcase with IC5 connector. I'm brand new to No Prep. Watching all your videos.👍🏻
Do you want the front of your car to lift up a little bit having the car ride on the wheelie bar but still having the front tires maintain some contact on the ground so you still can maintain control of your vehicle. You do not want your car to go down popping wheelies you have no control of your car
As an rc car is super light on the front locking the front shocks down is the best way of adding weight to the front and not letting it transfer more weight to the rear tires the wheelie bar and locking the front shocks from traveling up will allow a good launch and settle back down the front tires on the ground to steer after it launches is what I’ve seen also controlling the power off the hit will increase your time I’ve not yet seen a full front travel suspension benefit an rc drag car 👍
I had a feeling you were a mechanic but I could be wrong. Ive yet to see a dead serious losi drag. Ive seen some drags that hit top speed under 1 second but those might be fully custom and dont weigh jack. HOW serious do you think the losi drag can be without toooo much renovation?
@@earlmoorhead5555 .... Agreed, They took the rugged approach. I know both Losi and Team made their kits with potential for wide range of mods and conversion. The kit is surely not restricted to only straight running, they put a lot of geometry in it.
Depending on weight tranfering if it pulls the wheel off the ground right away then lock front wheel and make the chassis carry the wheels if the rear tire won’t hook then make the front shock extend and force the weight onto the rear wheels for traction it’s all apart of dialing it in 👍👍
I wonder why Losi has put rear external shock limiters on the bottom of the shaft on some cars. I heard people talk about it and seen it in a couple of videos. I did not get them and i know you did not as well
Those bump stop/limiters are on my rtr losi as well, and I didn’t see them on Earls either. Shot him that question earlier today, wondering if he took his off, he hasn’t got back to me. Maybe losi started putting them on after Earl, or someone else made the comment that, without those limiters, the right axle will hit the spur gear cover when trying to compress all the way. All I know is mine right axle won’t hit the spur gear cover, because I have the limiters in.
@@OH-Hobbies Earl did not get the shock limiters either. Losi had the platform in production before they noticed the axle hit the spur gear cover and started installing them in later production. Design flaw but luckily the rear shocks can be tuned not to go down that low nor need to. Hope you got your 22s hooking and booking 🏁👊🏁
@@thex_tazfast_x9842 Hooking and booking! I love it man. Thank you for the confirmation on those limiters. I kinda thought that’s what happened. I usually don’t even read the comments people put, or don’t even ask you tubers myself, but if I hadn’t of seen your comments, I would have just tried to guess. Looks like I need to pay closer attention to other peoples thoughts too, especially for 2wd no prep. I have just been drag racing 4wd with avc/ or tsm, and no limit on how many cell lipo you can use, for a few years, until now. 2wd is much more difficult, Thanks for the info
I ripped mine off immediately, using fuel line that wasn't even cut straight isn't the best way to go. Of course I cut off my stock rear shock tower and fabbed my own to make a better geometry. In the process of making a zero degree front bulkhead as well. Yeah they are rtr but if you wanna be competitive then it's gonna require alot of testing and tweaking
Mr. Moorhead, I have subscribed to your channel, and respect your advice, and I thank you for your wisdom, especially when it comes to trying to get the losi 2wd to perform as best as it can, with the stock parts. I was watching your videos on it before I even made the decision to buy one. Today was the 3rd day I took it out since I’ve owned it. I have many question for you, but let’s just refer to one thing I just noticed on this video that makes me think your rtr is different than mine. I just noticed that your rear shocks don’t have the little external limiter on the bottom off the shock shaft, as mine do. Did you take those off in a previous video, and I just missed it? I am currently trying to do what I seen yours do, which is get mine tuned, to go a to b, relatively straight, and hit about 50mph. I’ve getting my 4wd cars to hit 70mph in 132ft, and that was very easy, and lots of fun. I knew 2wd no prep would be much more difficult, and that’s why I’m trying to do what you have done exactly.
