The measure I use is the smiles on Tanner's face and my face! This truck was RIPPING! You do a GREAT JOB EARL! I love the sticker on right rear! I agree that the RC should be whatever you want it to be to make you happy!
My Super Baja Rey with an extreme setup is Jedi speed but my go to toy is my 5ive T. It’s not the fastest and definitely not the slowest but that loud motor and frequent maintenance makes me happy. Have fun with those toys!
Both great trucks. I have the losi raptor rey, I find it a great scale truck but being a 1/10 is a lot lighter and seems to handle well. I have put udr front slave dampers on the rear the length is perfect and it has stopped the rear kicking up but took a lot to set up.
thanks Earl. since I have an sbr I decided on getting the dbxl2.0 when I seen her on sale. haven't ran her yet. When I read that the top is one piece sbr 2, I didn't like that. I like the ability to take the front and back off the sbr 1 top
That v1is definitely jumping alot better but yeah usually you have to tweak them to get them to your liking so with that "tweaking you'll get the v2 dialed in. Love my v1 DBXL-E too and those lights! Nice vid bro!
I don’t have a problem with the spare tire, but I also bought an aluminum wingnut hold down for the 1/10 baja rey......works just fine on the super baja!!! 🤪
Your 1.0 looks like the tires don't have much grip , slides around a lot even on pavement . I have the DBXL-E 1.0 , agree with you , awesome rig , after radio change , my steering is great . Anyway , just picked up the SBR 2.0 on Thurs , yet to drive , hope my findings are different of what you experienced . BTW , love your location you live in !!! Looks like great weather / conditions !!
All these long travel solid rear RCs have similar issues with tuning-out the rear kick. Usually it's just a matter of shock oil and weight distribution. On my 1/10 LBR I did dual shocks front and back which limited the rear travel more and slowed the dampening. I also had the dual standing on the back spares. All baja trucks with standing spares mount them toward the back of the cage so they're easy to 'roll off' when a replacement has to be done. Mounting further up is something done with lay-downs. Even then that can be more uncommon. The real truck this chassis is based on uses a similar spare setup, as do other popular rigs like Justin Lofton's "Fury" Jimco. The cage being *really* floppy at the back is an issue every iteration of Baja Rey has struggled with. I think Losi made that compromise because they wanted very shock absorbent plastic. I've seen them pretzel bad in a crash and just bounce back into shape. A more rigid design would like be more prone to breakage. When it comes to these TT chassis, I plan around realism first and optimize around it. If I care that much about super optimal performance, there's a reason the FIS '4wd buggy' type chassis are so universal in hobby rc
But I just got the Losi tenacity DB Pro and right out of the box that is my liking my first hobby grade DB and I'm absolutely in love with it I was looking for a tent scale that can keep up with my ARRMA s
Thanks for the Video Earl. Stay true to yourself making these videos as people like to hear the truth NOT sugar coated finding out later after you smoke 1000 bucks. I'm waiting for the Arrma Mojave in the EXB version to add to the fleet. Should be a fun truck as everyone seems to say it's one tough bastard lol
Great video! Couple questions: are they the same size or is one bigger? And do you have an opinion about the Traxxas UDR? It’s obvious you’re a Losi guy but just in case you’ve driven the UDR, I thought no harm in asking. Thanks!
The rey 1.0 was my favorite rc I've had. It's a blast to drive and takes a beating. Was so surprised how many times my LMT broke. Which one do you prefer? I'm leary of getting the 2.0 cause I had not one complaint with my 1.0
Def a thing of taste, I def don’t like that older SBR. Love the SBR2 but I learned to drive RC on UDR and the SBR2 better in my opinion like you said. But mine flew great, I will upload today
The older one is not a good looking for sure and the UDR is better made for sure as the back of the Losi is really flexible (weak) not sure if it will hold up time will tell 💯💯👍👍
@@earlmoorhead5555 I am hoping it is designed to flex like that, I once cracked the tube frame on the UDR in the rear for that reason. It was too stiff and it cracked the plastic where it bolts are, SBR2 appears to flex down but not up. Heres my SBR2 UDR bash ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FtBdBmV-LYY.html
The original ESC from the SBR is rated 8s, just not the motor. You didn't have to change the ESC for the 8s capability. If you look, it is the exact one from the SRR but the motor in the SRR is rated for 8s. As far as the spare tire goes on the SBR as well as on the SRR, I just took off the wing nut and installed a washer and a actual nut. My suggestion for the donkey kick is a thicker shock oil. Personally I don't have much problem with the kick. The SBR and SRR definitely handle better at a higher speed. At least for me.
@@earlmoorhead5555 Ahhh, ok. The ESC in my brothers BND SBR started to act funny one day. I think water was sitting in the receiver and creating a circuit. We left it alone for about two weeks and were going to call Horizon Hobbies (where I purchased two) and was going to have them diagnose it. Instead I tossed a charged battery in it, rebinded it and it worked fine ever since. Glitch of some sort. My Super Rock Rey has a 70 kg steering servo, aluminum servo mount, aluminum servo saver, and aluminum front diff case and I've not had an issue with it since becides typical crash breakage. Broke front steering knuckle, replaced with oem plastic as well as rear link rod ends. Nothing substantial. I did do some tuning to the suspension and now it stays planted. I'm pretty happy with the current setup on the SRR and don't plan on any other changes. As far as the SBR, I'm pretty sure I've told you, but am putting a R-SNAKE 16s ESC in it with a big TP motor.
Earl keep being honest. I agree with you 100% and was expecting more from losi. This truck is a rock rey chassis with a baja rey front end and something dosnt seem right about it. I think the rock rey is absolute garbage. The 2.0 seems to handle like a rock rey than a baja rey IMO
Yes I can see the rock Rey in the Baja Rey as well the rear end kicking out under hard launches but I’m hoping I’m wrong and I might be able to adjust it so I can use it as you see my rock Rey been out twice and sits as I don’t like that style of rc and ppl said back then it’s a rock racer ?? Well now my Baja is feeling the same now they say I need a flat dirt scale area idk where I can find a scale rc track to support it this is the real world desert and the rocks are like mountains compared to this rc 🤪🤪🤪so I’ll just adjust it and hope for the best in the desert but I’ll bring my Mojave and UDR just incase 🤪🤪🤣🤣😂😂😂
@@earlmoorhead5555 Ive been literally called a crybaby and told i have a vagina for saying anything negative about the 2.0 LOL... i just roll with the punches and tell them to call me meat curtains now. It seems those lashing out of anyone speaking negatively are almost cult like. I refuse to drink the horizon hobby koolaid and i will call it like i see it as well. Keep making great videos man i really enjoy
I got to agree with you. RC is about having fun your way. If you're fun is little drivers license plates and side mirrors Cool, if you're fun is 100 mph Cool, if you are fun is sliding around sideways burning rubber Cool. Have fun. I looked at pictures at trophy trucks at a standstill and running through the desert. It does seem like that RC the front is much too soft in the back shouldn't be kicking up regardless if it's a dirt jumps or a speed bump. I can't imagine the trophy truck driver doing a hundred through the desert trying to control a back end that's flying up in the air like that. I know all the fuel and all the weight is usually in the rear of a real trophy truck but this RC doesn't have fuel to weigh it down so I think maybe the springs are a little too tight in the rear. try adjusting preload or maybe switching the springs from the rear to the front if they're the same length. You know how to tune I'm sure you'll figure it out.
I run everyday too brother it's just I spend more money on my RCS than I do a GoPro which I need to stop that at least a cell phone holder on my ball cap or something
The Mojave’s a beast but the quality of the Losi parts are better the bodies on Losi are amazing but the Mojave definitely a basher rc with no worries of crashing 💯💯👍👍👍👍
Don't get me wrong I love a big RC especially a 6 scale or a 5th scale but the money is a little too rich right now plus the bigger the RC the more expensive the upgrades are so maybe in the near future
I have an R/C for all my needs : Infraction = Onroad Xmaxx = Offroad / Stunt Baja Rey / Rampage = High speed off road Trx4 = Crawler / trail truck Rc4wd Bully = Competition rock crawler Team Corally kronos = offroad / racing / Basher Team Corally Moxoo = Basher / Racing Losi 8ight buggy = Race track Losi tenacity sct = Race track Hpi Savage = Basher / stunt
@@earlmoorhead5555 when you get a chance if you have a nice open rough terrain, Go full speed with that baja Rey and you'll see what is really designed for . Fyi love your videos and honest reviews .
Yes the plan has always been to take it to the desert but out of the box with all horizon quality control issue I felt best to run it at home to dial it in or fix any issues 👍👍💯💯💯💯
There are different design elements for different RC cars. These were specifically designed for off-road, rocky, sandy, desert type environments. Why couldn't you review them also in their intended environment? You can choose to use it however you want but if you can't acknowledge the difference it just inhibits you as a reviewer.
Took words out my mouth every one has a complaint on the rig but it’s fine for what is made for a lot of videos are in grass or street and it’s not that type of rig A friend said just get a 8s kraton I don’t like that big wide look for 1/6 1/5 scale I like real deal
Yes I agree but the reality is the rc most of the time will be run at home for the average guy and like I said I run it at home mainly to make sure it’s working right before driving an hour to the desert and this rig won’t hold up to a rocky desert run without flipping is my guess 💯💯💯💯
@@earlmoorhead5555 Different horses for different courses :-) You have an amazing collection of rc cars/trucks. You have so many specialized cars to enjoy! I hope you get to use, modify, re-enforce and enjoy the Baja Rey 2.0 to the Max! I'd like to see you take the v1 and v2 out and compare them. Thanks.
Yes I wasn’t a fan of open wheel rc cars I like the short course trucks better ( the look) but the performance of an open wheel I love so why not try and get both 💯💯💯👍👍👍👍
1:41 drill the hole out, take a cigarette butt insides out, put it in the hole, trim flush with a razor knife, then put super glue (non gel) and then it will be like new. Drill the ciggabut with a size smaller than the screw and then thread the screw in. Bam! Like new and will never strip again.
It sounds to me like you don't like/enjoy that style of RC vehicles. If you don't like the way that scale design handles, don't purchase another Desert Racer. All of the Desert Racer RC's I've seen, tend to kick up in the back, particularly out of the box. Some more that others. It just seems to me that your complaining primarily about the performance of the style of RC and how it comes tuned out of the box. I'm yet to purchase a new or used RC that I haven't needed to tune to get it to perform the way I want. JMHO, you should have talked about what you find frustrating about Desert Racers in general.
That’s not true as I have a lot of desert racers I don’t like a rock racer or crawlers as I don’t by them !! That why the lasernut I didn’t pick it up but not knowing this I understand why you comment the way you do 💯💯💯💯
I agree the 1.0 does handle that speed bump better but keep in mind 1.0 was running without the spare tire (lighter back end). 2.0 was running with 2 spare tires 😳 The 2 are designed to handle differently with 2.0 showing weight transfer more, more suspension travel like the udr. A short course truck will handle more like a 1.0. Different strokes for different folks
Yes but there both desert racers / stadium race trucks 🤔🤔idk to have an rc go that fast that loose seems all bad but I’m sure it can be adjusted right 💯💯👍👍👍👍
