Oh how the store has changed since I first started making LEGO videos. I should do a reaction to this from December 2012 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3VZi_YtO1CQ.html

Misplacing a piece is one thing, but I despise when my butter fingers drop a piece into any of the various pits/caverns of my present MOC (a very tall Lego tower). I've had to stuff an old shirt into its elevator shaft just to prevent pieces from falling to its bottom (which, by now, is almost as deep as the length of my arm). :P

That big red panel piece is from the Alpha Team Ogel Control Center which you reviewed some time ago, and is exclusive to that set. It normally expects a sticker. Surprisingly, the sticker on mine is still like new, almost 19 years later.
@BrickTsar
@BrickTsar 4 года назад
Good catch on that. I would have had 4 of them in my store originally so it appears I’ve sold 3 of them over the last few years. I only know how many I originally had because I bought 4 sealed copies of the set to get the 4 panel pieces needed to build Darth Maul. It was only a little more to buy the whole set versus the one piece at that time. Most of the parts from that set have been sold by now but we got a few stragglers left

A lot of your tips can apply to moc builders and piecing together set builders inventory collections. I’m the only person in my house that’s all sorted for Christmas presents. Today I’m finishing inventorying the early 80s to mid 90s technic and dacta LEGO sets at my school. In the future you might want to check them out when they get listed on eBay

Good information, I like the idea of pulling single piece lots out of the main stack on cabinets. Brickfair is so close, still working on my MOCs.

All of this is so familiar lol. I'm in the process of doing a full inventory count now. I'm also changing my drawer numbering system, so I check the inventory as I go along. I'm over 100,000 items (parts, figures etc.). I store my parts in baggies (1x2 or 1.5x1.5) and store multiple lots in the same drawer. I also keep a buffer on large quantity items. Another great video! 👍👍
@BrickTsar
@BrickTsar 4 года назад
Thanks! My very first BrickLink video from December 2012 was very similar to what you are doing as far as using bags and multiple lots in the same drawer. I had more sets and Minifigs back then. And close to the same number of parts as you.

I've been wanting to get the Bricklink Studio designed LEGO factory history set because it's got some neat little builds that can help me learn how to build dioramas. Though I believe maybe for a little bit cheaper I can get the instructions free online and then build it maybe with what parts I have and with a few orders? I'm about halfway done with my own Star Trek next generation riker versus Picard diorama MOC by Mr. Wang. It's 16 studs by 16 studs and I think that's kind of small so maybe some of the others I'll build will be 24 studs by 24 studs.

On anything cheaper thant 25 cents always put a few extra in the stock that you have, You do never want to hassle for 25 cents. Also if you need space, than make a bigger container and start filling it with different pieces and use the space for something more usefull. Your 'OCD' makes you impratical sometimes. It is allowed to put 2 or 3 different parts in the same container if you can not confure them
@BrickTsar
@BrickTsar 4 года назад
It’s not OCD. It’s making in practical for someone to be able to come in and pick an order with little to no knowledge of LEGO. I saw it all the time in the grocery business when they had multiple items on the same pallet people would pick the wrong one. Plus if you watch one of my first BrickLink videos I had multiple items in one drawer and it took me a long time to pick the orders. It’s a huge time saver and easy for my wife to pick the orders. Of course there is nothing wrong with have multiple parts in the same container. I just take issue with you saying it’s “OCD”
@johntessemaker4998
@johntessemaker4998 4 года назад
@@BrickTsar Sorry! it was a joke not an offence ,-) But even a non experienced person can see the difference between a small round piece and a flag! If you have space issues you need to either stop and focus on selling or think out of the box. Love your videos and content and of course you are right in doing what works best for you!
@BrickTsar
@BrickTsar 4 года назад
John Tessemaker I am happy with how I’m doing it. If you look at my first video on BrickLink you can see how much it has improved. The organization now is exactly an example of “thinking outside of the box” - no need to go back to the old way now

I hope this isn't a kiss-of-death for the future when I type this :D Out of my 629 sales I have had so far I have just had one order I couldn't find a part to(funnily it was a 1 x 1 cheese slope in green) Haven't a clue were it is still :D I dread in the future not finding things :-/ LOVE these types of Videos ;) I still learn a lot of new things from them.
@BrickTsar
@BrickTsar 4 года назад
Cheese is on of those extra items. When parting out sets I’ve had the rare occasion when one set has a different quantity. Or we found the piece later. Have you ever been handling pieces and one just randomly flies across the room? Sometimes I can’t find it. Another thing that’s happened is an element for accidentally left in a bag. Now I keep all bags and I use them for shipping. Sometimes I’ve found a bag with a part in it. So now we double check the empty bags
@Carl-G
@Carl-G 4 года назад
@@BrickTsar Yeah those small parts can be a pain :D I did leave one small part in a bag once or twice before I started to count the LEGO but all my bags I re-use so I found it in the bag in my bag box luckily + the only strange thing is once I found a small flour part that was all melted which was very odd(+ once a sticker was missing from a set to) + loads of times LEGO that I part out go flying everywhere :D It's so hard to find them to. I'll find that small cheese slope one day somewhere :D

I have a question what is the best way to keep track of all your parts when you are limited on space. Like you have walls of part bins. I don’t have space like that
@BrickTsar
@BrickTsar 4 года назад
Watch the “Short Sort” on BrickSmith channel. Basically with limited space it is probably best to put same parts of different colors together. Especially it’s practical in a personal collection. When I first started I had no database and i had drawers for different part types like tiles, hinges, bricks, plates, etc

Sadler_bricks here Hey for my ever growing store i have an old style system but it works for me kind of like an old dewie decimal system so incase i ever lose data of the notes or prices or dates part numbers etc i have a backup system that i can pull the info and this helps greatly foe lost content or when i change product from one drawer to another Sadler_bricks
@BrickTsar
@BrickTsar 4 года назад
It’s always neat seeing how people manage their inventories. I’ve seen some big stores pictures of their stock and I wonder how they manage it. Good having a system and I think the biggest drawback of mine is if BrickLink makes a major change or even goes away - I’ll have lost my inventory. I have no database saved offsite though I’m thinking of doing occasional backups with brick stock
