It should be noted that this here cardboard Bartolomé is, in broader terms, written as more of a protagonist/morally righteous character in the Ixalan story. It curbs the flavor fail a bit if you read his creature type as something he's swept up in and manages to do good in spite of. He's at the very least markedly more agreeably than Vito and the remainder of the Legion/Church of Dusk. I'd say that does mirror the historical figure at least somewhat well the rules text, placement on the color pie and general fineprint are still a bit of a headscratcher but you can't win them all.

More specifically, Vito is part of a schism from the Church of Dusk - the Church and Legion vampires of the plane aren't inherently evil, but the schism is - who in the story leads an expedition to the continent of Ixalan to resurrect the evil bat god Aclazotz. Bartolomé is along for the expedition but is a spy working directly against Vito. He's also willing to align at various points with the Sun Empire and other "enemy" factions for the greater good. SPOILER ALERT: Bartolomé ultimately dies protecting Amalia Benavides Aguirre (another good-aligned vampire) and Kellan from Vito. That's all to say his heroism in the story is unambiguous, and the nod to Bartolomé de las Casas is probably no coincidence.

doesn't surprise me that gnawers aren't getting taken. whether they're good or bad, they're a 5 mana x/2 and that's a difficult thing psychologically to pick up if it's not a bomb

Passing Hautli early-ish in draft when you are in white to activate seems like a mistake. Looking forward to rage quitting when my opponents cast/flip it! 😂

Black white ended up being insanely open. It was a great deck and it performed well. Hard to say it was a mistake when it goes 6-3 with a mill-to-5.

I would've picked Warden of the inner sky, i dont think she is crazy good, but it seems like white black end up with a bunch of artifacts, especially white black sacrifice, tap them then sac them for bartolome maybe? Also just draws out their removal

My LGS stopped doing drafts a while ago, but its always fun to experience the format vicariously through your videos

This format is quite fun with all of the interactions. But the wins and losses seem extremely random. On top of the typical flood and screw risk, there seem to be several cards that just win the game on the spot, even if the opponent is relatively far behind.

Why don't tokens trigger descend triggers? I thought it would when token creatures dying trigger "when a creature you control dies" effects. I know tokens disappear after they go into the graveyard, but don't they go there first so to say? What am I not ubderstanding? or is Nizzahon misunderstanding the rules?

Descend looks for a “card” to hit the gy Tokens are not cards they just represent things. In many cases gy effects DO trigger from tokens but this wording excludes tokens

Question. Pack 2, pick 1. You took Another Chance over Huatli. Any thoughts on taking the Huatli even just to keep it out of opponents decks?

Hate drafting is meaningless on Arena, and doesn't have much of an effect even in pod drafting. It is generally better to avoid it altogether.

I think it was certainly not out of the question to take it with a potential of switching to green white. But this path did well too

On arena you don't play vs the people you are drafting with. You play randomly, so it doesn't do anything. It's also arguable how much it really does irl if you're at the local level.
