LOST GOLD recovered, watch how!! (Part #1)

One of my viewers lost over 50 grams of gold when he tried to smelt his black sands and placer gold concentrates. Wanting his gold back he contacted me to see if I could recover the lost gold from the material he created in his failed smelting attempt. I did not know if I could do it, but was willing to give it a try. Watch this 3 part series to see what I could and could not do and what I learned along the way. Spoiler**** I GOT IT!

Dan, The person who sent you his attempt at smelting looks like a chocolate bar with a filling that is light like peanut butter. It will be interesting to see what you can do for him. I’m sure you will be sending him just gold, no foreign matter, JUST GOLD. I believe in you. Also, no matter if you find gold or not, you are always a happy person enjoying THE GREAT OUTDOORS. Pictures of you sitting in a creek must be so relaxing to you. I love to see you in your element just because you are so happy and look 👀 relaxed. You’re so enjoyable to watch. Don’t ever stop your videos!! I will miss you terribly.

@@Danhurd I am new to gold processing and im trying to go from natural gold and silver ore to solid gold. I would lime some pointers on what to do so I dont mess up my process or spend extra money on things I dont actually need. So far I have a gold pan, nitric acid, and a crucible with flux. What would be the best way to go about processing gold ore at home without breaking the bank?

Thanks for the awesome content Dan, I really enjoy your channel. I would love to see you do a video on how each flux works and more technical videos showing the science behind everything you do. You are an amazing teacher and I'm so grateful for the hard work you put into your content, I have learnt so much from you. I'm pretty crook at the moment and have mobility problems (I'm a part time wheeler), so I'm stuck at home. I can't go on country camping, bushwalking or fishing etc. Which is very hard because I grew up on Wiradjuri country, on the Murrumbidgee River in Australia. I've always had an interest in prospecting as a hobby and your videos have reignited that spark, they also make me feel like I'm out there with you enjoying the Bush and finding gold. So thank you for your hard work and Happy New year to you and your family. Cheers, Mel from Australia.

Hey Dan, a couple things. If you're going to use that type of conical mold, it needs to be red hot before pouring, because it acts as a giant heat sync. Otherwise, not enough time for molten material to separate. That's why you have bits of gold in the slag. Also need to pound the gold flat a possible to remove all the slag. Good luck. Look forward to video 2 !

My dad was a 'shop' teacher. Safety was huge. He was wood shop, drafting, and metal. It's called industrial arts. Today in my part of the country all that is gone and it's called Tech. Ed. All these skills are being lost because the powers that be don't want our kids learning these skills. And, of course the kids who are prone to the trades don't get that exposure and have no idea what to do after high school. My father taught me well. However, I would have liked more metal working skills.
