Will uses an alien machine and finds himself back on Earth. The problem: he's landed in the Town That Time Forgot, and nobody will believe who he is or help him contact Mission Control so he can let them know the Robinsons are alive out there. And if they don't let him return to the spot where he appeared so the machine can return him to the alien planet, he may be stuck there.

They weren't lost in space very long at this point and Will still looked exactly like he did when they blasted off. Surely, the town authorities could've looked at newspaper pictures of the Jupiter crew and seen that he was the real Will Robinson, then let Alpha Control verify it. The adults looked pretty silly the way they handled it.

To be fair, someone from Alpha Control was on his way over just as Will was making his departure.

Nostalgic candlestick phones and their wall equivalents were reintroduced in the 1970's and were kept around for a log time. The fictional Hatfield Four Corners, Vermont was one of those small towns in Vermont that were behind the times when it came to technology. According to the Blu-Ray commentary, there were still towns like that in 1965. My parents used to go skiing in Vermont with friends before that when they were dating. I'll have to ask my mother if she was ever near places like that.

Listening to the wild sound of the monster at the end reminds me that maybe the show's biggest strength is in its use of sound effects and music (not to mention its awesome theme). Even the goofiest looking man-in-a-monster-suit can seem scary with those roars and orchestra stings.

THANK YOU !! THANK YOU !! This particular episode was very popular with kids, and was my personal favorite. [old geezer alert]...remember when kids were outside all day, and all over the neighborhhod?? We would 'act out' TV shows, Lost In Space, Rat Patrol, Man From U.N.C.L.E. As a budding drama-queen, I would pretend to be Will waiting for the return-beam climb, on the roof of our shed and get the other kids to (reluctantly) try to coax me down.

@ 9:25 ... I saw Mrs. Shaw in a Dick van Dyke episode working in the unemployment office 🤣 great comedic actress! Around 11:43 ask him why fools fall in love 🤣🤣🤣🤣 It was always funny to me how John asked Don what the robot is doing here instead of asking the talking machine 🤣 sometimes the blatant absurdity of this episode makes it work well.. I don't know how, but somehow it is amusing, besides annoying! Like how the kind aunt thwarts Will's rescue attempt .... Could it be a metaphor for how the old-fashioned elders can't help with the complex problems of a modern technological age?

What I don’t understand is how the Robinsons (at least John) know that the teleportion machine was built by the Taurons. Did the Taurons leave an instruction manual printed in several different languages, including English? Did the manufacturer stamp a “Made in Taur” insignia somewhere on the machine? Or maybe the robot used some kind of highly advanced deductive reasoning to figure out who built the machine, and then told the Robinsons at an earlier date? I think a little bit more exposition was needed here. And watching this episode as a ten-year-old, even I thought it strange that the small Vermont town was using oldfashioned telephones at a point 33 years in the future from my point of view. I think touch-tone dialing was already in use by 1967, in a few places.

It always amuses me the way people try to read so, so much into these stories/episodes. Just enjoy them as they are, because that is what they are, nothing more and nothing else. They were all written, produced, and filmed purely for television entertainment, and nothing else. No need to analyze anything if it does not "compute" or make sense. Just enjoy the fun, fantasy, and adventure of it all. I am not talking about you, Irving/Author. This is great what you have done on RU-vid here. I am referring to the so-called fans who feel they need to analyze, critique, and put down every single thing that does not seem real, accurate, or make sense to the human eyes or ears or limited thought process lol. You know the type of "fans" I refer to, the ones who rally only care for 25 to 50 percent of the series..or possibly even less. Thanks for making my day and a little more fun in my holiday season a little brighter, so happy holidays and how about my favorite episode the time working? Actually I believe the debt at dr. Smith's one of his more finer hours as a human being and as an actor, especially the final scene where his foot is caught in the door although I thought the scene was rather tense for lost in space that is. By the way, what did you think of Star Trek Continues the Further Adventures of Kirk and Spock Etc, I first thought it was a joke when I when I was listening to it on RU-vid I thought this is a parody this guy's doing it Shatner impression Sparkles electric on from Junior High the the loser when did Leonard Nimoy impersonation contest. But the yes that's really made Irving in case you were going to ask me and I do enjoy your take on Lost in Space, it's not a joke when I said it's the bright spot of my holiday season. I spend my holidays alone not by choice really but maybe in a way that's by choice without family and the few friends I've had I've kind of drank away and I try to volunteer when I can so as not to be completely isolated but for some reason I can flip my hair around and smear on some makeup and Men are well I go to see the wrong type of men usually find me and and I've learned to despise the holidays because of that so usually the Holliday's are lonely but you made this one a lot more fun for me. hope I didn't bring anybody down by my comment I just kind of blurted it out once a year I blurred out my feelings somewhere this time it's on your side Irving I just don't plan it it just comes out when I'm talking but you've got such a great Wit that you made me feel comfortable being myself for a change The Good the Bad and the Ugly if you know what I mean

Funny how the writers thought that in 1997 there would still be small towns in the US that used human operators rather than dials on phones. (Actually I looked that up to verify it, and the last manual branch exchange in California, like the one depicted, wasn't shut down until 1991! ).
@CheatOnlyDeath

Carbon tetra-chloride is a real thing and would be useful as depicted. But the writers didn't foresee that it would be obsolete and banned in the US for health and environmental reasons in 1970. And it's funny they thought it would be under a dollar in a local hardware store. I couldn't find the actual price then, but it was banned in the US for consumer use, I'm sure it was much more expensive if you could even get it. The 2024 price for that volume is $230 USD.
