The really funny thing is that the first theme, and the opening cartoons, are very humorous, but the show as played as serious. The second them is a serious action-adventure them, but the show was played up big for comedy! :-D
This is amazing. If you've always loved the LOST IN SPACE themes- especially the 2nd- you're probably melted onto the floor as I am now! NOTE PERFECT!!!!
How do I describe how the second theme with the count down speaks to me as a child and now still. That count down just sends me to a world of families and possibility and desperation of survival.
Really? He's more like J. P. Sousa and Wagner (use of leitmotif)... most of his music are basically marches. He's certainly very good and popular, but another Beethoven? Bach? Hardly. (PS: It's Tchaikovsky.)
I say the first was best for the series. The second one does not sound like original and real LOST IN SPACE, but some other too far out television show that is not as good as one and two..
OMG, this brought tears to my eyes. This TV show was my favorite growing up! I loved it so much, and still love watching the reruns. But listening to this band (orchestra) play the 2 intro songs it’s amazing!!! Thank you!!!
I love the trombones on the 2nd one gives it that Ummmmfff sounds so strong and good loved the show as a kid and second song was my all time favorite 👍👍👍🎶🎶🎶
I ALWAYS remembered the third season's theme as THE theme when I watched it when I was a kid. Just a few years ago my wife and I rewatched the whole series, and I was confounded to hear that first theme...BLECH. WILLIAMS!!!!!!!!! That 'second' theme made me a fan. Jaws, CE3K and Star Wars cemented it beyond breaking.
I figure the second theme was geared to mesh with American "general knowledge" at the time. 2:27 reminds me of rock-and-roll circa 1960, and the "countdown" is surely a nod to the progress of manned spaceflight happening around the time "Lost in Space" originally aired.

I was born in 87 and had seen every episode of lost in space by 97. I will always prefer the second theme, and the new netflix show is quite good. That is all.
Both themes were in my opinion spot on. The first does sound a bit more complex then the second. The second definitely sounds more like a John Williams composition. It is very cool to find out that my childhood has the Williams sound around as I had no idea he did these themes. I thought my first experience hearing his music was 1977 and Star Wars. In a few months we get to go see him perform live. I'm like a little kid with excitement waiting for that day to come around 😊
02:02 that crescendo was just as it should be. remember that the original was recorded by seasoned movie/TV session orchestral musicians with experience going all the way back to the 1930s. add to that after the original was reordered it was mixed and mastered.
This is a good cover; they actually used a theramin in the first theme, and the arrangement is a near perfect copy of the original, but the balance between the instruments is way off...an obvious example is that the theramin "swoops" are FAR too loud relative to the rest of the orchestra. Still, quite enjoyable...
What fun versions of the originals. Well done ladies and gentlemen and of course the new series of Lost in Space starts in April - but will they use any of John's great music - I hope so.
How can you say the first and second themes were the best? They were crapola compared to the third season theme and the count down before hand. No comparison!!
