Lost in the Tankwa Karoo! 

A quick weekend getaway to a special part of South Africa, the Tankwa Karoo. Wide open spaces, huge dirt roads and scenery that reminds you of being in Namibia. The landscape is barren and bare but in this barren landscape beauty can be found everywhere.
Our journey started in Cape Town South Africa and lead us through some of the most amazing places along the way. We drive through the Ceres mountains which are absolutely incredible!
This overlanding trip was done in conjunction with 3 other overlanding families and RU-vid personalities namely Jonker Adventures & Rolbos Overland & Get Out Go. We decided to all meet up and go for an overlanding trip, how better to meet other people than to do it with a weekend getaway doing what we all love....OVERLANDING.
Driving in Tankwa Karoo forms part of one of South Africa's longest dirt roads, the R355 stretches for 200 odd kilometres and forms part of the old postal route. The road side stops in Tankwa Karoo are random and basically like scenes out of the movie MadMax.
Our first night we spent at a campsite call "Die Mond" which in English means "The Mouth", what makes this place so special is that with all the desert around you, you arrive at this gem of a camp that has a huge dam, which in this dry part of the world is incredible to see. Obviously it's compulsory to swim in a dam if you have one available. The area is hot and the sun unforgiving, but jumping into a dam changes that completely.
Our second day of the trip we actually ended up getting lost and through that drove and saw some of the most amazing scenery, what should have been a short day of driving turned into a full days drive through majestic mountains and rocky tracks. Not even sure of how many kilometres we did for the day we eventually arrived at our next camp again just before sunset. This making a 4 hour potjie a bit of a challenge to prepare and get done early enough for everyone to fill their stomachs before bed after a looooooong day in the vehicles.
A first for us since we relocated to Cape Town and definitely a memorable one, new friends, new places, incredible experience!
We live in such a beautiful country, exploring it's vast landscapes is every overlanders dream...
