You are so right! It is not only about the destination but about the trip itself. Thats the difference between holiday makers and travellers. Well done video.

The black snake at 17:42 looks like a black spitting cobra with a jet black colour, smooth scales, hood retracted but scaled black bands typical of hood visible, jet black-grey underparts, pink mouth typical of Western cobras, small round black eye forward on head and prominent scaled-eyebrow above eye. It is a snake that is not often seen and then mostly seen with it's hood up about to spit.

Indeed it is a black spitting cobra. Very lucky to have such a rare sighting. I also did a short episode on it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vEp7WCQjHUI.html

Another awesome video! Thanks for the amazing content. I see that you’ve got a roof top tent as well as a ground tent. For trips like these where you aren’t spending long periods of time at the same campsite, what’s your advice on having a rooftop tent versus using a ground tent? Do you alternate depending on the situation or do you mostly use the rooftop tent? It is worth getting a rooftop tent considering the cost involved?
@TravelGigolo
@TravelGigolo 2 года назад
Thanks for positive feedback! I've done a review of rooftop tent vs ground tent: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gzYF8rkrqU8.html We only use the rooftop tent when we're in an unfenced camp, wild camping, or camping for one only night. Occasionally if the ground is not suitable (muddy or rocky for example) we'll use the RTT too. We usually stay for at least two nights so we have at least a full day to explore our location. In general our ground tent is the go-to. I would invest in a good ground tent and other stuff like a fridge and a draw system before getting an RTT. Here's a long term review of ground tent: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V8zRgSmJfGU.html

Great video, useful information - but maybe I missed how long it took you from - let's say: Witsand to the Tankwa Karoo...?
@TravelGigolo
@TravelGigolo 2 года назад
Now that you've mentioned it, I can see that it would be useful to include that info. We hardly ever drive directly though, we often take back roads and interesting routes/passes. So usually on a road trip like this it takes us much longer than the average person would take if they just stick to the major roads. I think I should make notes on the actual trip time from destination to destination though. It will be informative 👍🏾 Thanks, appreciate the positive feedback.

@@TravelGigolo Thx!... And from JNB back to JNB? Just to get an idea... I myself prefer the back roads (and hardly use G Maps), so I won't be surprised...

As my significant other put it : "6200km, 25 days, 11 campsites, 4 nights "not camping", 2 flat tyres, various car issues, surprisingly many rainstorms, 21 braais in our epic little Weber Go Anywhere braai, and countless memories."
@TravelGigolo

We try to stay at least 2 nights at every destination if we can. Otherwise it becomes a slog with more driving than actually experiencing the places.

Great video. I see you took the route via Noeniput to Augrabies. Can you please tell me what the road looks like? Will be travelling with off road caravan.
@TravelGigolo
@TravelGigolo 2 года назад
Thanks. When we did that route it was surprisingly wet. It was a typical gravel road, we did not encounter any especially bad sections or difficult places to navigate. We were actually aiming to pass by Riemvasmaak but the signage was bad and google maps was not helping. So we ended up at Kakamas then on to Augrabies. The road may be more corrugated when it's dry, but that is to be expected. We often choose to take the less travelled roads just for adventure of it.

Great episode. Silly question perhaps can't make out your stopovers on the map. How many days did it take for the trip?
@TravelGigolo
@TravelGigolo 2 года назад
Total trip was 25 days. We try to spend at least 2 nights in every location, and where possible 3 nights. That way we have at least a full day or more to explore the location. Thanks for the feedback 👍🏾
