There are indeed a lot of characters to keep track of. But trust me, it's not a chore. You will get to know all of them so intimately that it will feel like they are close friends or even family.

Lost is my favorite tv show of all time. Some people didn't get the ending and judged the show off of the ending that they misunderstood. Most people who got the ending on a first viewing, loved it.

This show *completely* sticks the landing, moreso than almost any other show I've ever seen

Filmed in Oahu, Hawaii, it was the most expensive pilot episode up to that time, costing between $10 and $14 million, largely due to the expense of purchasing, shipping, and dressing a decommissioned Lockheed 1011 to represent Flight 815's wreckage. Many changes were made during the casting process, including the selected actors, the characters' behaviors and fates.

Welcome to the Island, Frogurt-I mean-Neil (you'll get it later). I've watched a lot of TV, but LOST is my favorite show of all time. If you've heard spoilers, fear not, I can almost guarantee you they aren't true. LOST is a show that's extremely difficult to spoil for someone unless you sit down and tell them all about it. There isn't a one sentence cop-out "it was all a dream the whole time" twist at the very end or anything like that. This show's ending was so wildly misinterpreted by people who maybe watched the pilot and wanted to watch the finale too because of the hype around it, or people who just caught an episode once in a blue moon, that it created this false notion of the ending being received with "mixed" reactions. In reality though, for those that watched the show from beginning to end, and didn't just "hate-watch" it because they wanted to fit in around the water cooler, the ending was viewed as an extremely rewarding experience, some (myself included) even considering it a masterpiece. LOST is an incredible show that deals with many powerful themes that aren't often seen in the genre of television. Never have I been so emotionally affected by a piece of media. I will say this without any spoilers... MOST Lost fans loved the ending. There is a loudly vocal minority who either didn't understand it or just didn't like it. But to me, and A LOT of Lost fans, they stuck the landing. But go into it with an open mind and either love it or hate it for yourself. Hopefully you'll love it. :)

Nice reaction. I watched Lost from when it first debuted in 2004 and actually the first episode they broadcast was only this. It was filmed as a 2-hour pilot, but they split it over 2 weeks. Hope you’re able to avoid spoilers!

You're in for a great ride. Definitely a top 5 series all time for me and easily the most re-watchable show I know of. It gets better every time The ending got a lot of hate at the time, but I love it. I have found that most people who have binged the show love the series and the ending. I expect we me may see a character or two from the show up on one of those shelves behind you before all is said and done. There is nothing like seeing LOST for the first time. Enjoy!

I love all LOST. The finale was perfect to me. I'm 42 years old and have watch a lot of TV... and Lost is still my favorite 😍 Like someone said in the comments, if someone didn't like how it landed it's because they didn't understand it. Hope you keep going!!!

I've discovered there are generally 2 types of people...those like me, who think Lost is one of the best shows to ever grace the small screen. And those who hate it and think it's absolute garbage. I've only ever talked to a couple/few people who thought it was "okay". Hopefully you enjoy!

I will also beg to differ with those claim this show did not stick the landing. There are imperfections, sure, but this show was quite the ride right up to the very end. The finale was near perfect on many levels for me, though surely there are nitpicks to be had here and there.

Even though it says part 1 and 2 it was actually aired a week apart. Not that it matters 15 years later.

If something doesn't make sense or seems like an unrealistic tv thing, it usually isn't as long as you watch the show twice.

Not true, Lost is phenomenal from the beggining to the very end. The best show ever together with Dark. This is going to be a good journey and a once in a lifetime experience.

"How do you even source a plane wreckage for filming" one of the many Golden factoids of Lost. They actually spent like a million dollars on a decommissioned plane to tear in half to film this

IMO, the people who say that the first few seasons of LOST were good and that the show "went downhill" after that are typically the type of viewer that never "got" the show to begin with. LOST is a sci-fi/fantasy drama, but a lot of people tuned in expecting a scripted version of Survivor - a soap opera about people stranded on a beach. These are the people who overlooked the fantastical elements (to be fair, it's somewhat restrained early on) and jumped ship when those elements came more into focus. All this to say - know what kind of genre show you're watching and you'll be fine.

Couple fun facts 1. They weren’t not allowed to show bodies but they did decide to show minimal blood to make jacks wound be jarring. 2. When they were filming the show Oahu pilots had to constantly comfort passengers that they were just filming a show. And 3 that was originally supposed to be jack in the tree but damon and Carlton loved what Mathew fox brought to the role so they built the character more. Have fun.

Super excited to have stumbled upon your channel. I’ve been watching LOST (I’ve lost count on the exact count, over 20) from the start. Like a few other comments I’ve seen, I agree that they 100% crush the ending and that most of the negativity was from those who didn’t finish or sometimes even watch the series. As you know now (with this video being posted three weeks ago) that there are some crazy unanswered questions that will keep certainly keep you hanging on. As a hardcore LOSTIE I have confidence that you will enjoy it.

Not me as a lost fan watching all your reactions to the episodes. It’s my favorite show of all time. Nothing comes close as far as I’m concerned. I’ve only seen it three times all the way through including when it first aired. It was amazing. You could watch it as a casual viewer or you could really watch it. Damon and Carlton had a Vlog. They would give clues. It was such a crazy, weekly mystery. I remember my brother and I figuring out that Ethan Rom was an anagram for “Other Man,” because his last name was so weird. We watched it and dissected it as a family. I didn’t do a rewatch for 10 years after. And I recently just did a new one after getting a new OLED. Really special show. Can’t wait to see what you likes and didn’t like as I follow along your viewing of the show

Fun fact: originally the plan was to have Jack be killed by the "monster" at the end of this first part instead of the pilot. The writers were going to have Kate be the 'series lead' instead (it's an ensemble cast but you know what I mean), but test audiences responded to Matthew Fox so well that they decided against it. A decision for the best, I think ;) Can't wait to catch more of these reactions!

There are so many great characters in this series which are some of my favorites from any series. I can’t wait for you to learn more about them aside from just their names.

Fasten your seatbelts, it's gonna be a bumpy ride. Some safety warnings: -The show is "smart", as in you need to pay attention to fully enjoy it. It's an old one, so many ideas have been used and perfected (?) since then - Lots of thing are left to the viewer to understand, or connect. Some things are more trivial (like, "so they talked about this offscreen"), some are more of a narrative perspective (like, "oh, there are many survivors"). Think about those things as if there was a reason for something to happen, or it's just "this is the story of that time so many people survived a crash somehow", if it makes sense -As per the previous points, Lost is a screenwriting masterclass, so everything can be considered a spoiler, and nothing really is. Part of the tension of the pilot was to catch who'll gonna be a main character, remember their names.. so maybe from your perspective this episode could be underwhelming -Lost fandom is passionate, everyone has favourite characters and storylines, so there will be some discussion about things/choices

Welcome to the "LOST" family, Neil". 🌴🛫🌄🛬🌴 Awesome first reaction. In regards to the ending "not fully sticking the landing", it's actually was amazing and I'm sure you'll love it. It was hated by people who really didn't get what the ending truly meant and they were going off what they thought the ending was, which it wasn't. You'll understand what I mean when you get there. TRIVIA: The original ending of this episode was to see Jack { he would have been played by guest actor Michael Keating } die and take the place of the pilot in the tree and have Kate become the leader of our castaways aka Losties but the powers that be decided to keep Jack alive so they revamped the character of Jack and hired Matthew Fox for the role. Shortly after filming the pilot the actors who play Kate { Evangeline Lilly } and Charlie { Dominic Monaghan } began dating in real life and they remained a couple for four seasons of the show.

It is nuts for me that people my age over 30 yo haven`t watched Lost till recently. I have seen it when it was first launched and after every now and then. And I am not even from america. Jack was always my favorite.

Neil, you will definitely need a moderator. Or two. I'm just starting this video, but I casually scanned down to the comment section, and I've already seen SEVERAL major spoilers. As this series is built on the gradual revelation of answers to mysteries within the show, spoilers are pretty much antithetical to full enjoyment of the series. I'll volunteer to moderate if you're okay with that, but you'll likely still need more than one moderator.

One of the best shows ever created. Watch to the end. I really recommend watching the blueray version. its a near-perfect rip. Finish the show.

Great reaction! This should be interesting... you appear to have a similar previous exposure to LOST as I have with Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad: some general familiarity but unwatched for fear of stepping into the middle of a story. Regrettably, I have a few shows on that list! I should stop re-watching LOST and LOST reactions and get to it, right? I like the fact that you are in the TV production industry - I hope you continue to provide tidbits of insider technical knowledge along the way.

I have watched a lot of great TV and in my opinion, the 1st season of LOST is the best season of TV ever. Obviously art is subjective. enjoy the ride
