My Grand Father moved to Keenan's ville back in the 70s. I spent lots of vacations there from michigan. My parents later inherited it from him. I knew a man Paul Tabor who helped rebuild the school there in the 80s. He was a very skilled wood worker who Loved to give his time & knowledge to fix up the school. Yee haw junction was a cool place. Went there many times too. Keenan's ville used to have water about 1 to 2 feet deep there where all the mobile homes are back in the 50s. I learned that from the locals there. It is a flood plane area around lake Marianne. The man that told me about it said he used to canoe around there as a kid. When florida drained the everglades the water levels dropped creating usable land for the community.

I'm 60 Years old, And live in Okeechobee, And i can remember when Kenansville was thriving. I still have friends that live there. The Desert Inn was a WILD place in The 1960s. The name didn't come from People riding burros there! The Name came from The guy that kept a lot of Jack Asses. Hence, The name Jack Ass Jct. My Dad and Grandad hung out there. When The turnpike was extended from FT. Pierce, They couldn't use The Name, So it became Yee Haw Jct because of the sound the Jack asses made. It closed down recently. The Railroad followed the route of present day 441 from Okeechobee to Kissimmee.

When did they shut down the restaurant? I always loved stopping there in the 70s & 80s as a kid. We'd always stop to gas up and have lunch in the restaurant, i remember i always loved playing with all the little gadgets they had laying around in the restaurant.

here's a little information for you about small little building on the side of the road that belong to AT&t and that was used for a long distance telephone lines in the old coax systems they had in the 50s and the 60s. my dad used to work on those systems out there and he used to replace and repair amplifiers for the old coax systems

My mother lived in Kenansville for over 30 years, her & my father bought a place there for $25 a month back in the 60s. They come down to Fl. every winter to fish on Lake Marion, after he passed away Mom moved down there full time. She lived on the corner of the highway & Myrtle street & had a p.o. box at the old post office for years! There use to be a great place to eat on highway at the corner where you turned to go down to the lake, great gator, catfish, turtle, & shrimp. There use to be a small little diner about halfway to Yeehaw Junction on the left that served all you could eat fried lobster it was fantastic. Daddy helped build the addition on the Church of God in Kenansville! The story I heard about Elvis was he was traveling from one gig in south Fl. & went by the old heartbreak hotel & that's where he got the idea for his song. I don't know whether it's true or not but that's what the old timers said. There use to be an newspaper article in a frame in the old hotel for years.

I was in that bar in April 1979, and I had a big ice cold can of Budweiser on a 93'F morning at 11:30 am. I was down there on vacation from Toronto and travelling up the turnpike to visit Orlando. The Desert Bar and Inn was a MAGICAL place. I will always miss it. PARADISE...Florida style...

Ate there once. Coming back home from Lake Wales after volunteering for some hurricane cleanup after Hurricane Charley. I live in Vero and VERY FAMILIAR with Jackass Crossing. There’s a private residence in Vero that you NEED to visit, it’s RIGHT up your alley and would make an incredible vlog. This dudes story needs to be told! His home’s INCREDIBLE! I have some photos of the outside, who knows what’s on the inside. It’s SO WELL done, his idea of decorating is A1, a folk art masterpiece if you will.

I can remember eating at the Desert Inn when I was a little kid. They had spiders, mice and other cool thing attached to strings that ran to the bar. One time they lowered a spider on a table and the lady screamed and spilled her drink in her lap...lol...she was pissed!! She stormed off to the bathroom and when she opened the door they had a life size, half dressed, Indian standing there. She screamed and hollered and stormed out the door. The whole place was in a uproar....good times! Dinner and a show!
