I know quite a few jewelry makers who send their stuff to the casters. It's very time consuming when you have other orders to fill. I had one tell me, "when I can afford to buy all the equipment, I will also be able to hire someone to do the casting for me."

This was really helpful thank you. I can’t wait for the other videos in this series. I have just started looking into wax carving and I have a few tools. I tried making a ring and it is was very fun but I would love to learn more, especially what tools do specific things e.g. the hot wax pen.

I'm sooo excited to see more!! It's so interesting and I feel like the need to try lost wax casting is growing within me 😃 Can you tell me if I can reuse this rubber mold at home? What I mean is, if I had it made and sent to me, can I then cast pieces in it by myself? (by pouring melted silved inside?). Also, you look so beautiful Karolien, your hair colour is amazing 😍
@korneliajewelry
@korneliajewelry 4 года назад
Thank you Basia, you’re too sweet 😊 I will talk more about the molds in one of the next video’s. You can not pour melted metal in this kind of molds, only fill it with wax and cast that wax in silver/gold again. Casters can also do all those steps for you. I will make sure to answer this so it is easy to understand, there are lots of steps and you only know what to ask for at a casting company when you know what’s possible, Thanks for asking! Oh and I’m sure you’ll like working with wax! 😉

Well, you show Basienko your lack of knowledge about the lost-wax casting process, learn and don't tell me I'm prejudiced against you, I don't like how a complete amateur gives advice to people, you can block me anywhere you want, As I wrote earlier, even the best equipment will not replace the knowledge gained while learning the goldsmith's profession. And to make a good form of silicone rubber, you also need knowledge and experience, I wanted to show you how to do it, how do you remember ??? I invited you to my studio in Leicestershire, you turned her down. You are a person who does not tolerate criticism of yourself right?

When I'm doing lost wax casting, I steam dewax the flasks before doing the burnout in the kiln, so I recover a good portion of the wax lol :)

I look forward to your videos! I've seen many artists go over tools, types of wax, and techniques. What I have yet to get an answer for is how to make the same ring in several sizes. Is a master mold used and adjusted to the correct size, or are several molds used at different sizes?
@korneliajewelry
@korneliajewelry 4 года назад
Great question, I will make sure to answer that in the video about (rubber) molds. I usually only make one master and adjust the wax rings to get the correct size casted. But for some models you might want to have different molds.

@korneliajewelry
@korneliajewelry 3 года назад

I recently started to make jewelry using wax and I have a question. I want to make realistic leaf jewelry but what wax and how should I use to transfer veins of a leaf to wax??🥺 I tried clay wax but it was too soft and it’s broken easily while thin sheet wax was too hard to transfer veins...should I put the wax in warm water or something??
@korneliajewelry

I will create a video about wax and natural details in the naar future. It is a process of trial and error. I melt wax at what I want to become the ‘backside’ of the jewelry.

I love your work and love the casting process. Is the casting company expensive? How many pieces you can do with one process. I mean, with the tree you made with a few wax molds, how many can you do at once and how the company charge you? 😘😘😘
@korneliajewelry
@korneliajewelry 4 года назад
Thank you! I don’t think it is expensive, but it also depends where you live (if there are casting companies nearby and if they have local competition or not). Something to keep in mind: you can bring your own fine silver or gold to cast, this way the company doesn’t charge you for the silver/gold only labour cost. It usually is only a few euro’s. I know some companies work with a percentage, they charge up to 10% of the cost of the material (so it depends on the weight). I would ask around in your region. How many pieces can be casted in one process depends on the size of the flask. Most companies use huge flasks with a lot (over 20) of pieces on one tree and they only turn on all machines and start the whole process when they have several of the big flasks to be casted. If you have smaller machines and do the casting in your own studio, I know some metalsmiths that even cast only 2 rings. So it depends. Not a super clear answer, but I hope it helps.

Hi, i'm new to gold business, how to calculate the require gold with wax weigth. I know cad design and using 3d printer for wax model making, for eg 1gm wax equal to how many gram of 18k gold. thanks in advance
@naturebehindglass6512
@naturebehindglass6512 Год назад
You can submerge it in a measuring beaker of water and see how many mm the level rises. Then calculate with the density of gold. Don't forget to add all spouts and funnels before
