Clip from Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Limited Edition) Behind-the-scenes feature. Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) plays a joke on Bernard Hill (Theoden) while filming a scene.
@@bellekovac_ I’ve watched the extended editions of those movies at least a dozen times, a dozen. That’s over 150 hours. And that crackly audio only kinda sorta sounds like Aragorn. Get your ears checked.
I love how you can hear that Viggo can barely control himself. Hear his voice almost cracking when he says "from your sssssskull - scaaahhhnd in a small dark room, my lord"
This made no sense out of context. There was another take that they also have footage of (for some reason, not shown in this video) where Aragorn says it a bit differently. "They will take you into a dark room, my Lord, and scan your very skull. They will make toys of your Lordship, ten thousand at least, for children to play stupid games with." He was making a reference to Gentle Giant Studios, who would take 3-D scans of the actors and print them into plastic toys for merchandising purposes. He knows it does not actually matter what he says, because the audio and focus is on Theoden for this particular shot. In the alternate take I mention, Theoden actually cracks up.
By appearing in “Titanic” and “The Return of the King,” Mr. Hill became the first actor to star in more than one film to gross over $1 billion and the only actor to appear in two of the three films to win a record 11 Oscars (the third is “Ben-Hur”), The Manchester Evening News reported in 2022.
It's so funny to see how Bernnard is trying to figure out what is happening but still stays in character. You can see him thinking: "whaaat is he talking about...' Viggo's great!
Hearing Bernard Hill talk about this moment in the audio commentary on the extended edition DVD and then watching it here is just such a happy occurence. Thank you for uploading!
I don't see why Bernard hill should be trying not to laugh. if this scenario were in the film, he should still be acting worried. Aragorn warning him that saruman has send an army of 10,000 uruk hai for the sole purpose of making action figures out of him. that requires acting to show fear and confusion as to what saruman would want with them
The best part though, from the extended editions, you learn that Bernard Hill would pull pranks during filming for Pete to see during dailies. They had such fun during the filming. If you ever have the ability to watch the E.E and the extras for those dvd's.. please do so!
Rest in valinor, My KING "The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep one last time. Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and the red dawn."
Ah yes, the early 2000's... Almost nigh on a quarter century ago!!! LOL! Try harder, grandma. Harmless pranks didn't suddenly cease when you hit middle age... Or whatever other reason you are using to fabricate these fantasies....
@@codymoe4986 but all those high-risk clickbait pranks wasn't there in the beginning of the world wide web and before sites like youtube wich was found in 2005 so he's kinda got a point!
@@aaronjoshua2857 Looking through rose colored glasses much? It was never anything new. I've heard stories from my parents , grandparents and I'm pretty sure if they were around even my great-grandparents had physical pranks. The dipshits recording it has gotten much more prevalent though. And they were way less risky with the pranks because getting your ass kicked for doing stupid shit like that was definitely more common and should be again.
that is so great this is soo funny. I love you in the back Orlando just lost it and laughed and Viggo just keeping the same tone of voice was great as well
@@trumtrum5136 The full context is that this actually isn't the first time the same prank has been pulled on him. Viggo did a better version of it that made him break right before this take.
Oh yeah, this is just a pickup for the sake of a reaction shot. That's why Viggo can really say anything and the mobile phone rings in the background and it doesn't matter. ;) Bernard is keeping a straight face though, hehe. :)
Abolute legend and one of the most underapprechiated actors ever. Titanic and Lord of the rings are two massive films he was a huge figure in both. Sadly missed.
Just now rewatching the commentary track for the first time in many years, and Bernard talked about this prank so I had to search it up again as I forgot, hilarious as ever 🤣
hahaha yeah!! that's why i love Viggo... they totally believe him when he does this stuff. i love Orlando's reaction. he's completely dying back there and is trying so hard to stay in character.
The cast of The Two Towers in a special video about Bernard. Bernard was "a wonderful human being," "won everyone's hearts as soon as he arrived on the set," and "always in a good mood. "He won everyone's hearts as soon as he arrived on set," "He was always in a good mood He was always in a good mood and trying to make people laugh," "a big kid," and "got along well with Wigo and they were always joking around. It is easy to see how much he was loved.
