Very excited and if they expand it out fully it would make lotro my main mmorpg. I play with my wife a lot at odd hours and with a friend who has MS who often feels uncomfortable playing with other people because he has to suddenly just stop. Very awesome news.
Back when time gating for instances was first introduced, one of the devs stated that the official reason for this was to slow down gear progression and bridge the gap between casual and hardcore players. The problem is, time gating has the opposite effect since hardcore players usually play several alts at the level cap while casual players might play 1 or 2 different classes, meaning hardcore players can do a lot more runs per week. Time gating also rewards consistent play throughout the week, which hurts casual players even more since casual gaming schedules in many cases mean playing for longer periods of time a few times in a given week. One of the frequent complaints at the time was that as a casual player, you might have 4 hours to play one day of the week but your time gated content only takes 2 hours to complete.
As a returning player this is looking good. I was never big into raiding but my Guardian was a pretty good tank. I had some good gear, but as soon as the level cap popped it was all just trash. Being able to get the goodish gear without having to run a campaign of raids to get into the good raids, and then the great raids ... takes wayyyyyyy too much time when life is life and available free time is finite.
The way I saw the timegating was a "Safe" but meaningful way of having there be stakes towards it, basically if you leave, you fail it that's 1 you won't be able to do today.. Not a huge hit, but still makes there be a small amount of stakes and make you care about doing the best you can instead of having 0 stakes walking in :)
There are a lot of married couples who play this game, not just friends. This system sounds like it was built for people who don't have a ton of time and want to play together. Thank you for clarifying about this system. Sounds like we need to buy the expansion even though we have 4 140's each and don't need low level content.
Brightlife! Happy to see you covering this. Loving the success of your channel. Keep it up man wish you the best. I love lotro a ton and the new changes coming just makes it better. You should check out dungeons and dragons online sometime, same company and great story questlines.
Dude awesome! Yeah, I'm pumped for the new zones too. However, I think the Delving system has a more "game-changing" effect to the game - the long term benefits are going to be big time.
Oh my chicken fried steak! This does sound amazing! I agree with several comments below about not having the time for the large raids but also being an 'Angelica' and not enjoying raiding, to be clear mostly because not everyone is easy to play with. Thanks for all the info and hopefully once this gets out the 'cons' will work themselves out through trial and error, and what better way to find out than through the loyal misfits of LOTRO🤣
I love your videos man, you really put a lot of effort on them and that is what I really appreciate because you explain everything very well because you did your homework, good job!!!! also I am a super fan of LOTRO as you are, is the best MMO for me at least!!!
I am like angelica I have been playing this game on and off for around 10 years and I'm still yet to max an alt, my highest level is 106, I've always just enjoyed creating new alts and styling them and questing alone or with 1 or 2 friends.
Thanks for the call our 😊. Doesn’t seem like Mythic plus seems more like Island Expeditions in WoW . If you haven’t tried them .. oh we need to get you into them ! There are mounts !!
Sounds great but as a solo player I would rather have the ability to hire NPC they used in skirmish mode for dungeons and instances in the open world as well, Still waiting for MMO that lets you lead a party of NPCs and give that proper DND feel without a need to group with players on line!
Definitely! SWTOR and ESO both have companion systems in place, and GW1 definitely has the full party system, but it’s definitely out of date at this point.
Unfortunately, it’s only in Japanese, but Dragon Quest 10 allows you to hire offline players to join your party so you can do pretty much anything solo.
The grind is nuts. Not only it needs 180+ runs to get the gear. Also it's 10/day cap? At least one of those needs to change. Pref both. Oh and: Ered Luin is fantast... *beeep* *booop* *error*
Hmm 180 runs for a full set 6 alts cut that in half since all my guys have chest legs boots, 90 per toon, so a day and half, 30min hmm so 5 hours a day no problem LOL. Wait you can get traceries? Gold ones? ugh think im goign to live on these missions hahah and ember runs for livley unless I can geet those aswell then hell might make more alts. Good thing I retired early hahah
30 runs for one piece of gear? No thank you, I won't be doing even one run then. Guess I'll do the story quests of the new area and go back to FFXIV, where 30 runs gets me a full set of raid gear.
I think that's partially true - but it's also a mechanic that keeps people involved in games/companies that need to make money, which is what they're supposed to do. I can see why they do it, I just don't think that it actually works. I hope they take it out!
