Lots of good ideas in todays video, especially like the idea of planting new plants next to the old ones, it makes sense! Love your dog climbing on the equipment he doesn't want to miss anything reminds me of my grandson:). Your new shed will help to organize your things and will make things easier and I am all for that.

Hi Sarah :) Please can you do a video about best ways to pick, store and condition flowers before they are used in your bouquets? I am a bit confused about that... I'm a newbie growing flowers for my daughter's wedding in September and have found your videos so helpful since starting planning and sowing last year! Thankyou ") Tracey

Sarah that's the spacing we plant them in the US when growing for bouquets. It's perfect and the heads aren't huge. That's a lot of work you've done tidying up! Looks great! Sorry for the loss of your beloved pup.

For your shed/compost area. I recommend to Make at least a 3bay composting station. It works the best. And when making the roof, Extend the roofline out, which enables you to have more dry storage in front of the bays and will allow you to put lots of hooks on the exterior side walls for tools, hoes, shovels and such. Everything looks great. As do you. Sending 💗 blessings 🙏🏻

Have you tried spacing your sunflowers at 6”? Many flower growers here in the States do that since the closer spacing produces smaller heads which are better for bouquet work.😊

9” spacing for ProCut sunflowers would produce huge flower head… I’m growing ProCuts for the 1st time this year, at a loosely 6” spacing (might be 7” at some spots) & have trouble pairing up the larger ones in the bouquets. But I’m a novice at bouquet making; can’t wait to see you doing magic with the sunflowers ♥️

Thanks for your lovely videos. I've just ordered the snips, I agree - my felco secateurs, which I love, are sometimes a bit bulky for cutting flowers.xx You mentioned the Johnson-Su bioreactor. Have you made a video on that? Does it work? I'm going to find out more about them!!

Your farm is simply beautiful Sarah 🌹🌸 Would you mind making a video about the tall timber wall at the back of your field. It intrigues us and wonder what it's made from, looks like old railway sleepers, and how it was built. Is it a great wind shield? Planting green manure crops and piling on lots of animal manures can keep the microbes busy over winter if/when areas need a rest. Best wishes, love your vids so much. 🐕🐖🐝🌼🌻

What if the old plant was diseased? Like powdery mildew or other zinnia diseases? Would it still be okay to leave the roots or best to yank the entire system out?

Hi Sarah as always your videos are great fun and informative. Don’t know how you manage to do do much. What foliar feed do you use on your plants ? Also did you come to any conclusions after your audit?
@bloomandgray
@bloomandgray 2 года назад
I was using a worm castings/ kelp meal extract, since I’ve been on the workshop though I won’t be using this type of feed as a foliar, I will probably use as a root drench instead. I haven’t done the audit yet, I will film when I do though!

Fabulous video again Sarah and I completely understand now why you should leave the roots in place. Is there a cover crop you could recommend for a smaller cut flower garden as I’d be interested in doing this once mine have finished flowering.
@bloomandgray
@bloomandgray 2 года назад
I think lots of people recommend buckwheat as a beginner cover crop because it’s fast growing and easy to kill. However it’s also beneficial to have a good mix of different species. Not sure where you are in the world but there’s lots of good companies out there who specialise in cover crops and can assist in helping you choose the right one

@@bloomandgray Thanks for your prompt reply Sarah. I’m actually in West Yorkshire so not very far from you. I’ll have a look and see if I can find anything suitable. I’m only a keen gardener not a flower farmer but I love to grow cut flowers to give to friends and family etc. I’m actually dropping very subtle hints regarding Christmas and birthday presents as I’d love to attend one of your bouquet making workshops next year if you’re still doing them. I follow zillions of people on social media etc and I’ve not seen one who can put together a bouquet as beautiful as you, of course a lot depends on what you grow I suppose, but still they are spectacular. In fact we’re on holiday in October just outside Filey at a place called Flixton is that anywhere near you and will you still be doing the workshops then?
@Tea_and_thyme_2012
@Tea_and_thyme_2012 2 года назад
I know this might sound historic or ridiculous but when you’re cutting back all the spent flowers etc would it not be easier to use a sythe? It must be back breaking doing the quantity you’ve got to cut. I’m no sure if they’re even still around/legal but it would certainly take less time and save your back.

if you put on a cover crop, will you then dig it in, or cardboard over it and plant through Sarah? im wondering how that sits with the no dig ethos and are you disturbing the roots of the cover crop... trying to get my head around it? I only have three raised beds but im keen to follow your lead on soil health.
@bloomandgray
@bloomandgray 2 года назад
Hi Janie, I’m planning on trying a few things but my main idea would be to either stamp it down and cover with a tarp for a couple of weeks or mow it down and plant into the ground underneath. The roots would stay in the ground and the plant matter above would provide a mulch and hopefully keep the moisture in the soil for planting. It depends on how easy the cover crop is to kill and how to soil looks in spring 😊
