Introducing our latest LOTUS Artist - Derrick Gardner! 🔥🎺❤️
Derrick is a strong performer and sought-after educator, performing with the world-famous Count Basie Orchestra and his own sextet, The Jazz Prophets, to name a few.
In this video, you get to follow Derrick’s play-testing session together with us at PM Woodwind in Chicago, where he tries a bunch of different Mouthpieces and Trumpets.Derrick’s group, The Jazz Prophets, was formed in 1991 and 30+ years later it continues to be the primary vehicle of his distinctive, hard-driving music. Derrick’s recording by The Jazz Prophets, ”Echoes of Ethnicity”, marked his second Owl Studios release in April 2009 and was named by Music Resource Group as the winner in the 9th annual Independent Music Awards, the influential awards program for independent bands and fans, for Best Jazz Album 2009.
Recently, Derrick has been appointed Director of Jazz Studies at Northwestern University.He is playing a LOTUS Solo MAX Trumpet as well as 2XL2 and 2L2 Mouthpieces.

I was there for part of this. You need to be in the same room with Derrick to really get it. His sound is ridiculous.

Dude, all of your artists are so good. Even cooler is that, even among all of the MAW instruments that I know of, your horns are the most resonant I’ve heard. Excellent work! Can’t wait to get the updated Lotus mps and (one day) one of your Soloist models!

Hard to say hearing this through iPad speakers, but the 2XL2 silver sounded the most balanced - depth/fullness and edge to his sound. The brass version softened things a bit too much for my taste.

Please, and this goes for any video where sound is an important factor, get something better to listen to Derrick through, iPad speakers are not designed to sound good. They only need to be loud enough for Pop music and voice-centric Podcasts/moives to be clearly audible. Anything with warmth, like Derricks tone, is chopped out of what those speakers prouduce....and then they compress the signal = horrible audio experience.
