At the height of his popularity with his film, La Bamba, he was still very humble and very cool. I was working at the Studio City Theater (1988) for celebrity premier of the film, Dream A Little Dream (with the 2 Coreys) I was 19 and just married, it was very late in the evening and on the lobby pay-phone with my wife and LDP came out of the theater early and was walking out, I yelled out from across the lobby, "Mr. Phillips, say hi to my wife!" and I held up the phone towards him, he walked over took the phone from my hand asked my wife's name and then said to her, "Hello Laurie, this is Lou Diamond Phillips and I hope you're having a good evening. Your man will be home soon. Goodnight now!" A total class act! Cheers LDP

Indian Country Today Magazine has reported that Phillips is part Cherokee on his father's side. Met him in 1989 at 101 California SF.. we were walking towards each other. I turned around after passing him and he was standing looking at me then he tried he started walking towards me and I got scared that a handsome tall me is walking towards me that I ran to the building I worked at... I later found out he was my idol from LA Bamba.. Didn't know he was tall ...I think he knew I was Filipina and was happy to see another Filipina (which I did not know b4)
