LOUD Close Afterburner Takeoff F-111F Aardvarks On Base Launch Nellis AFB Red Flag Jan 96-2 

Those TF-30 engines were certainly well suited to the F-111F because they were designed originally to be a bomber engine. That is, compared to the F-14A Tomcat where they suffered a lot of compressor stalls due to high maneuverability especially under high AoA where airflow could be disrupted suddenly to the intake, resulting in a compressor stall.

Served with these as Lakenheath planes and the Sparkvarks from Mountain Home during the war in Taif. As luck would have it, I was assigned with these same aircraft and the EF-111’s at Cannon as the F-16’s came in and replaced them. I was a little sad to see these Cadillacs of the air go to the boneyard.

Got an incentive ride in an F model. Landing seemed really fast.
