Paper cone of a Loudspeaker is the most important part which vibrates according to the audio signal received by the voice coil attached to it to produce sound.
Paper cones are also the only visible part of loudspeakers fitted in an enclosure.
We can observe three items in a paper cone - The neck diameter for voice coil, cone body and the surround or edge of the cone.
Apart from paper, the cone body material may also be made by thermo plastic, glass fibre, carbon fibre and even in light metal like aluminium etc.
However, almost 90% of the basic cone materials are still now made of paper.
Depending on application and power handling capacity; cone size, thickness, coil diameter etc, the paper is treated with various chemicals to reproduce good quality sound.
In this video, I have tried to show different shapes and the materials used for the cone surround.
