I can’t believe how common our stories are! I was also born in Mexico City and came here when I was very little. I went through the whole DACA process too and my grandpa passed away while I was in the process of getting my residency. It hurt me so much because I felt like there was no way I could just go back, because of my immigration status. I just went back for the first time in 24 years 2 months ago and seeing the love Yoatzi has for her family and culture is so relatable because I feel the same way!! My family is also from Michoacán so the whole time I was like…” are we related? 👀 “ lol So happy for you Louie! Yoatzi I can’t wait for you to go back! 🩷🇲🇽

I loved this episode because all my grandparents have passed except my paternal grandma, and I don’t have the priviledge of leaving the country and coming back so it hurts. But I can imagine how beautiful and heart warming it must feel to be back where your parents grew

I really loved when yall talked about your bisabuela especially about the generation she’s from. My grandfather is turning 104 in October and thinking back, we didn’t think he would even reach 100 back in 2020 when we were gonna go for his birthday in El Salvador (but the pandemic happened). It’s crazy to think of the life he’s had and putting into perspective other world events that he was alive for and the many stories el viejito can tell to this day about the past. Love yall and just wanted to share the value of having such an old loving soul in a growing family and wish that others have that kind of opportunity because it’s valuable.

I am also under DACA so I definitely understand how Yoatzi feels and how happy I am for Louie to be able to go back to Mexico. this episode really touched me. my dads parents and grandparents are alive and everytime i go to gto i love being with them and seeing where my dad grew up. its very emotional. and even though my grandparents from my moms side arent here with us anymore, i also love going to la ciudad with her family and seeing the streets they once ran in and how they lived their life before us. mexico is truly a special place for many of us. i love imagining how my parents once were and how they would be as kids. it so cool to see where they grew up. such a mind calming place.

I always skip videos like this because it hurts me to not be able to go back to Mexico. I didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to any of my grandparents so I avoid to watch videos of people who reunite with their loved ones, but from the bottom of my heart I feel so happy for Loui for going back to visit. I went to check the pictures on his instagram and it made me cry 😭.

Omg this episode hit so hard 🥺 my parents are from El DF and I am also on DACA. I have not been to Mexico since I was 4, so I don't have very many memories of my time there. Growing up was always so difficult not having family here in the States, and I always grew up feeling like there was a missing part of me. I got so emotional when Louie started describing his experiences there. My mom was deported in 2017 and I have 3 younger siblings who were born here and they were able to visit her and the rest of my family during school breaks and it would always break me to take them to the airport. I felt so alone when they were gone and sometimes felt myself getting resentful or envious that my siblings got to experience my birthplace before I could 😪🤧 I feel that I feel whole when I finally get to visit 🥲 I'm so happy for you Louie, I love that the Castros are so family oriented and share sentimental moments like this. Praying you get to visit soon as well, Yoatzi! One day, we'll cross paths, and we'll share our stories of going back for the first time, manifesting it 🤞

When ever you fly international (Mexico or outside the USA) you neeeed to be there 3 hrs. early. To check in your bags, then immigration, then you have to find your gate, (which most of the time is super far 🙄) Yeah it’s a lot . Yes 3 hrs early minimum.

omgosh my parents were neighbors too and thats how they met🤧 I loveee this podcast🩷 I just went to mexico last month and typically I go to puebla, but I went to CDMX and my tio took us everywhere & my dad grew up a part of his life there, so it was crazy to know where he worked at etc.

I love when you corrected saying “our cousins” I always felt it was different that yall say “my mom/dad” with possession when speaking to each other. My sis and I just say “dad/mom” not “my dad/mom” 😂
