Every interview I’ve heard with him got further and further into his sweet heart. What a lovely man, and hilarious to boot. He made perfect comedy for families to laugh at themselves with. Families are all screwed up somehow, and he made that safe to talk about and find humor in. A real treasure of a guy. RIP.
I met him a few years ago in Atlanta. We were checking in to the same hotel. Wonderful guy. He was struggling with his knees poor guy. Loved his comedy. RIP
Thank you Don, your work is truly appreciated. Louie was an American original. If things keep going at this rate, all the good people will be gone by August.
I always knew, imo that he didn't get the recognition he so justly deserved. He was a brillient comedian. A wonderful legacy to comedy. His laughter, and the laughter he provoked will live on thankfully. R.I.P. Louie
If you think of some of the other comedians that were around at the time, who were much flashier and over the top, and then watch Louis Anderson’s, it’s such a contrast. He didn’t need all the gimmicks. He was just pure funny.
I was introduced to this man from "life with Louie" and then family feud later on. I see many of those episodes come straight from these stories, they're on RU-vid.....think I'll take a walk down memory lane. Thanks Louie.....rest in peace
Thanks for putting this together for everyone today, Don. You never cease to amaze me with your vast collection of Letterman footage and dedication to the fans of your channel. I, for one, truly appreciate it.
He owned an antique shop on La Brea and you could find all kinds of smoking items there. My friend also worked on Life With Louie back then.. Louie will be missed.
This guy was always cute and respectful to his family. Very personal experiences with funny moments mixed in. He was always clean when I saw him too. The comedy world needs comics like this. Liked the Louie, Louie rock song when he is introduced. Rip. Thanks Louie and utube.
Hmmm...I've watched Life with Louie back when I was a kid. Really loved it . Recently, I've showed this to my mom and all she said to me was " I understand now why you loved it so much...it reminds you of our family...." Yes. This was true. In some way, by watching his show I've understood a lot about life and family. All struggles and issues were easier for me to endure because this show... somehow....he explained them to me. Until this day, this show remains one of my favourites. Man. Thank you for what you did 😊 Rest in Piece
I was just a casual fan of Louie but I really miss him being in the world. When he had his first television appearance on Carson he instantly entered the heart of so many people and remained there for decades.
RIP Louie you were a comedic genius. Even when you tell stories they are funny. Your comedy really makes my day when I am feeling down and I really laugh a lot too!
I have loved Louie since i was a kid and he had the cartoon Life with Louie. Funniest cartoon there was when i was growing up. I always had hoped they would make more episodes but it never happened. Still, now I have tuem downloaded and can share them with my kids, who love it also.

I used to watch his cartoon Life with Louie when I was a kid. Louie was one of the few comedians that proved you don't have to cuss to be funny. Rest in Peace Louie Anderson
Cheers Donz for all your Letterman vid’s , we received Letterman in Australia early on in the piece when he switched to CBS in 93 as the owner of the Nine Network in Oz was a huge Dave fan so we all became Dave fans. I actually remember some of these shows you have , so cheers mate for jolting my happy memories of Late Night.
What a wonderful naturally funny man. I love his quick wit and the fact he doesn't have to be R rated to make us laugh every time. He will be missed.💜🙏💜🇺🇸
Love that Paul played "Brother Louie" & "Louie Louie". Louie had a joke when he debuted on the Tonight Show that still kills me and is the model of an almost haiku level of brevity. "I was never good at sports...Broad jump?...Killed her." RIP
Louie Anderson was one of my top three favorite comedians. He never needed to rely on the ‘F’ word to get a laugh! I had written to him twice in my lifetime. Once when he hosted family feud… He never got back to me I was very disappointed about that. And the second time I wrote to him was before the pandemic. I always had the feeling he and I could’ve been the best of penpals… And I’m not being funny. We had a lot more in common than just our overweight. I read two or three of his books they were wonderful.
Always cool to see comics that know exactly who they are :-) Louie's consistency through the years is extraordinary, we're very lucky to have gotten him
Thanks David Letterman - thanks @Don!!! Another amazing collection of funny. I watched Dave all I could and lost lots of sleep staying up watching my little black n white TV I had in my room. Being able to go back is just a treat. - BTW, Baskets (2 seasons) is his best work imho - great series - wish it lasted longer. Rest In Peace, Louie.
Hi Don, I don't know if you reply to these comments or even if you care to read them, due to the volume you must receive. But I just wanted to say: I am 27 years old and I am born and raised in Ireland. I have always enjoyed stand up comedy and original comedy of any kind. I just wanted to thank you for all you have done in archiving these videos. I am a patreon contributor by the way - but that's beside the point. I first became interested in comedy when I watched what I considered to be an absolutely incredible performance by Norm MacDonald on the Conan O'Brien show. Since then, I have been led to here and there, watching Conan, Norm and of course David Letterman. Through watching your videos, I have become an exceptionally-admiring fan of David Letterman; via all of his early stuff, via Larry Bud Melman, via Stupid Pet Tricks, etc. The other night I spent my time watching Carson's Carnac bits - which I learned about through Letterman and Norm and ultimately through you. I just wanted to say thank you for all of your uploads on RU-vid. I am 27 now and I have been routinely watching your uploads for approx 7 years.
Sorry, I ran out of characters.... Just wanted to finish by saying: I don't know if you know this: but your uploads have helped me and (I presume) countless others when we feel down, when we feel anxious, when we worry, when we fret. Your channel helps me a great deal and I am delighted that me - as a non-American who did not have access to this show before - and others can benefit from this comedy, through your actions on this website. I just wanted you to know that you really have made a difference to me, to my life, to the lives of others by sharing the comedy which bring me and others such joy and such relief. Anyway, thank you and I will continue to support you on Patreon (even if you don't read this haha). Thanks again. By the way, Norm MacDonald is my all-time favourite stand-up and I was so so happy to see your upload of his entire catalogue on Letterman FYI. Thanks Don and all the best for the future.
Andrew, I do read all the comments, though I do miss a lot of threads in which I don’t participate. Thank you so much for what you wrote. It makes doing this worth all the work.
@@dongiller Thanks Don. Just wanted to let you know how much this work is appreciated. I'll continue to support and to steer my friends in your channel's direction! Good luck, God bless and thanks.
Thanks for creating this compilation. I recall once on Late Night where Letterman had a skit with a "Ronald McDonald" who was overweight and just glared at the camera. I swore it was Louie under the make-up...
Nice of the band to play that great old 1970s hit "Brother Louie" by The Stories. Their one and only hit. But then, if you're going to just be a one hit wonder? Make sure it's an out-of-the-park grand slam home run hit like The Stories' only hit single was. Gotta love that really low-key tasty wah-wah guitar. So cool. Can't forget that other oldies radio hit "Louie Louie" by The Kingsmen." I like it, but find The Stories' hit cooler.
Rip Louie. A great comic, author, actor. Wish you were still here but am so grateful for the 38 years of laughs starting on Johnny Carson. Binge watching him for the past 5 days. He had really nice clothes.
heya Don - been a fan of your channel for a long time and appreciate all the time you put into your themed compilation videos - Notice recently in my YT feed a new "Letterman" channel that, while it appears to be an official one with access to masters of all the archives, lacks many of the nuances of your channel. Thanks for all
His family stories and Kevin Meaney's were kinda like bookends. I remember listening to his audiobook about his Dad, in one go, driving overnight to another state. Years later it all rang so true when I ended up in Minnesota.
I love these collections, Don. You do a thorough job and it takes us all back to the days where TV with the family was more of a thing than today. Do you by any chance have a collection of all the outdoor stunts and events Dave pulled on the streets outside the studio?
Thanks for this Don - one of my fave stand-ups - so funny and a sweetheart. Q: in the first appearance he alludes to Larry Bud's Guatamala trip - did he mean the Good Will Tour @ Monteideo, South America? If so was this the debut of that sojourn because if so I was in the audience for that show. Also - wonder why Louie stopped appearing on Dave '97 was his last visit? He was one of Dave's - and the show's - faves. Go figure.
Things are so different now. Can you imagine a guest coming on and saying that hadn't been on in a long time, because someone on the host staff didn't like them? It was such a minor thing to say, but in today's social media and online celebrity frenzy, Louie stating that would have been a story for at least a week. Journalist would have done everything they could to find out who the staff member was and write something up about them.
