Attel's punch line is so funny that it makes it easy to forget Dave's point: only in death did Patrice finally attain the popularity he sought. 😢 As Dave pointed out, the bandwagon was quickly filling with people who proved they didn't know or like him by getting so many basic facts wrong. I wonder if his family received adequate help after this?
@@manonthemoog idk if they’re still doing it but for a long time at least they did a yearly benefit for his family (pretty sure ran/spearheaded by Bill Burr)
Bro could you imagine if Patrice was alive today omg he would be the biggest comic he would walk right through cancel culture and the me too movement would get roasted as only Patrice could do rip Patrice O’Neal the goat 🐐
@@dabassassin7109 dude, we would have been able to see tons of legendary Patrice moments like when he smashed that lady on that interview when he asked her if she was speaking for funny 😂😂
@@jameschristoforou6541 mate, I adore that man. I used to say he was on my Rushmore of comics. Pryor/Carlin/O'Neal/Murphy. Given I've listened to Patrice for hundreds and hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours more than any of the others, I gotta say this with all my heart. Patrice O'Neal is the greatest comic genius who ever lived. The world could seriously do with him right now. I suspect he'd be as big as Kevin Hart, even with his propensity to burn bridges
Jimmy called him a psychologist, but Patrice was a philosopher in the truest sense of the word. He had a clarity of vision that let him swe the world in ways that most people couldn't, and he had the ability to explain it to other people.
This is probably one of the only times Opie is totally bearable throughout the whole things. When he's hurt and speaking from the heart he's actually engaging, and you can feel how he's feeling. Much better than his sad attempts at humour
I feel like things aren’t always what they seem, and Opies annoying sometimes and fucks bits up, but shit was never the same once they all broke up. I just feel like it’s really easy to hate Opie and hard to appreciate the dude and give him props when he’s doing well. He does it to himself I guess but things just have never been the same after they all disbanded, shit sucks
@@devinschwartz7596 it is definitely easy to hate him, because he's got days and days of recorded material that make you do so. I've listened to so many hours of this show since I discovered it after their implosion, and I know extensively why he's disliked. But hey, he was there, and he was part of what made it legendary. Just not in the way he wanted it
This is Revisionist propaganda. Opie always treated Patrice like a time filler. Notice Ant actually had him over to his house, had obvious chemistry with him. Opie has always been a phony. Didn't have one patrice story.
whenever i rewatch these o&a patrice shows in order again. i always know how it ends but i always feel the same sadness every time. damn the world today needed a guy like him 😢
On elephant in the room, he had some joke about how once you turn 40, you cant change your habits. And I wish more than anything that he fucking changed
And that is how you give a eulogy. At tell, what a masterful comedian. I’m sure Patrice would have loved that. RIP Patrice everyone loved him and respected him.
I love how Dave Attell can just take all the pressure out of the room. That's a skill that can't be learned. Everyone in that room is a fan of him, as they should be.
Its easy to forget how cool of a guy patrice was , extremely blunt but always hilarious, very happy theres a giant selection of playlists with patrice on here 👍
I was in high school when he passed. But I remember the first time I heard him, he was talking about the punk test and thinking to myself “this man has almost nothing in common with Opie or Anthony” but the way he articulated himself and brought you into his world was so relatable and hilarious you couldn’t help but just fucking like him man. He’s still my favorite comedian♥️
The first I ever heard of him was when he did the Charlie sheen roast. I was 12 and wondering who this fat black guy in the gay jacket was. Then he got up and decimated everyone and I’ve been listening to his clips ever since
Telling that not only did O&A fall apart not long after he passed, but the comedy scene in general took a major down turn patrice was like a lion of comedy he kept the rest of the population in check, never the most "popular" he sort of prowled the watering hole of comedy ready to devour any week pretender chancing upon a sip, an unrelenting icon who had no price. Never will his like be seen again!
Been putting off listening to this episode. Just to think what genius commentary Patrice O' Neal would say and having him not be here is unfortunate. R.I.P Patrice
Bought bill burr tickets and the night Patrice died ended being the night we saw bill perform. He made a mention of it before the start of his gig and apologized to us if he were to be off. The show was great but felt bad for Bill knowing he was up there working knowing he was bummed out his good friend passed away.
Bummed would be an understatement! He got choked up on Conan, and was obviously so close to Patrice given how much he still mentions him. The fact he still performed on the day of his death and didn’t fall apart is kind of astounding to me
louis ck inspires a lot of respect everyone listens and gets nervous, he becomes the center of attention being the most confident guy in there, only patrice was on his level
I still cant believe how underrated Patrice is I been showing him around to a lot of people so hopefully they'll show people spread the great mind of patrice
The truly sad and tragic thing is if Patrice would've been alive now he'd own the world of podcasting. He would've finally broken through to the mainstream. Imagine a weekly Patrice podcast, imagine how he'd dismantle this PC movement. Throughout his life, he made choices that negatively affected his career. Sadly after he died what he was best at, what he did on O&A, sitting around finding funny in odd shit, became a legit career for a comic. I sincerely believe he would've become a household name, he would've had the power to make the things he wanted to make if only he had lived 10 more years. Fucking tragic.
@@jamescrawley712 I dunno. He was extremely likeable, even these wokes douchebags could have been turned arround. He just made sense in what he was saying.
I thank god for all the audio we have of patrice thanx to O and A 12hrs on just movies...12 episodes of black Phillip . we need patrice in the world today.
I might be the one person who found the Opie and Anthony show and all of the characters through these clips long after the shows end. Can't believe the gold mine I've missed for years
@@HereForLaughsAndLearns it's great stuff. I really recommend checking out the channel Beige Frequency. There's like a 7 part series on both ant, Jimmy, and some others. I love hearing about what was going on behind the scenes
@JJ KK the episode where they announce that Patrice had a stroke is also amazing. Bob Kelly, Colin, vos, and Keith robinson slamming each other. Believe the date is 10/26/11
Patrice is one of the very few people who had a brilliant black comic and white comic both inside of him and would go left, right or fuse both together!
19:15 that one really hurt because Patrice kept everyone honest. And deep down everyone wants to be honest. Especially in the world of entertainment/Hollywood
Patrice and Jim were the last comics to trash Louie or give him shit (comedically). Shortly after this Louie entered Hollywood royalty and got his balls washed in every interview. We all know how this ended.
@Stephen P guys like Louis and Patrice don't belong in Hollywood. They're too free thinking and unique, you cant corral those personalities. Chappelle knew this and had to leave the country to detach himself. Louis had to go away too but people that funny don't just get forgotten
I fall asleep listening to Patrice O'neal in my earbuds almost every night. Especially when my wife is playing church or conspiracy theory radio on her side of the bed. I always tell her goodnight hun, you're missing out...
Joe Rogan has a great podcast but I never understood what people saw in him as a comedian. I’ve laughed at maybe one of his jokes. The one where he talks about how women don’t know how to properly jerk you off, he said it felt like trying to jerk off with your left hand. Other than that nothing really stood out to me
Appearances aren't important to louie. Look at his lack of podcast appearances pre Masterbate Gate. I think he made sure to be on this episode because of his love and loyalty to Patrice and stand up.
I’m proud to say I’ve listened to every appearance of Patrice on O and A that I could find. Some highlights that come to mind that other ppl might remember are -origins of the n word -Bobo up and down game -greatest story ever told (jail story) -Patrice vs Dr Z -vs Gallagher -with Pat Cooper -it’s cold outside -Alternate movie titles -vs Louis CK on conspiracies -Louis is a sissy If someone was new to Patrice O’Neal I would recommend Patrice vs Gallagher or even Patrice vs Dr Z as their first listen because I think those exemplify his character. He sought out confrontation and exposed them at such a deep level that even they gained from and enjoyed the experience at least on some level. He was impassioned and hilarious the whole time, getting laughs with ideas and arguments he truly held as beliefs- and I think that’s what so many ppl responded to. He held real convictions that drove him and his comedy
damn man why did I look this up it's a fucking tear jerker...but he lives on in these old O&A recordings and they will always be funny as fuck.. rip Patrice and the O&A show
2:01:00 you can hear Bobby almost lose it when he brought up getting the call about Patrice. I’ve listened to this episode dozens of times and never caught this moment
God I miss Patrice so fucking much! When I heard he died it actually burned his name into my brain like a Venomous Acid. Elephant in The Room was so great I was actually enamored by his performance
A Truth Teller. One of the greats. Somebody you wouldn’t be afraid that they’d water down the material today like most would that have passed too soon. Rip Patrice. I know Bill and Louis were hurt the most.
@503 Workshop that's not emotionally unstable. If someone that impacted you enough with their words and actions dies, you have every right to cry. Maybe you just lack emotional maturity.
Through the beginning 7 minutes of this, you can just hear the flatness in Ant's tone of voice, his half hearted laughs. 😕 Wish Patrice was still around, doing a show with Ant, giving us his take on the bullshit going on nowadays.
But as soon as they started to get all the comics in there and he really lights up and you can hear the love and respect he had for patrice when he told the story of patrice having a drink at his house. And your so right Patrice would dominate the comedy world now especially. He would love Tim Dillon and i can imagine hearing him standing up for shane gillis and louie.
i think because this “series” tries to archive every episode with Louie in it. there’s another “archive” with every Patrice episode, including this same one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zzgmdhnY9GE.html
This is so hard to listen to you can hear how broken up they all are, anyone reading this if you have someone in your life tell them if theyre fucking up their health, have that conversation and be supportive. It sneaks up on you and you dont realise youre losing your friend until theyre gone.
This is great. The version linked to with that classic "Patrice finger image" cuts off right after the purple suit line. I'm gonna have to link here for the full show. People deserve to hear.
