I am late to the party with this one, but I have recently discovered the joy and excellence of Louis Cole! Louis Cole is an extraordinary drummer and musician and singer. He is known also as part of the duo Knower. He collaborates with other amazing artists like Thundercat and Vulfpeck. If you want to go down a RU-vid rabbit hole (after you've done mine of course...ahem) search for Louis Cole's music, you won't be disappointed. This song I'm reacting to is called "F It Up" if you fancy watching it uninterrupted and in all its glory.

The bass player is Sam Wilkes. He's incredible. I first saw him on the Scary Pockets cover of Creep. Incidentally, I also learned about India Carney from that same performance. She's done some great stuff too. (And I saw Meshuggah at the Albert Hall last night. That's not related, but it was SO GOOD that I just had to share it.)

Love Sam Wilkes. The keyboardist Jacob Mann is a beast too, his solo stuff is great and Louis played on a lot of it too.

I’m a big fan of Louis and wondered if Clowncore was his project when it came out. Cool to know that it is. Shares the same ironically jazzy aesthetic. Govt Knows still has the most ludicrously satisfying beat drop I’ve ever heard. Feel like 90s Sonic speeding through a loopdeloop every time

Couldn't be happier to see you experiencing and promoting louis cole. Louis, Thundercat, Vulfpeck, these guys are among a class of musicians who are incredibly talented and don't take themselves too seriously, in refreshing contrast to many many artists who have very little to offer and have bought their own hype hook line and sinker.

Fantastic to see you cover Louis Cole. Clown Core was a great project he did. Sam Wilkes is a beast. Him and Sam Gendel the saxophonist in Clown Core did some great avant garde stuff. Sam Wilkes also did a great album with Blake Mills and Pino Palladino recently. Another really weird artist i'd love to see you cover is MonoNeon. Bassist who plays the bass upside down. Has his own manifesto. Only plays in his style. Very unique. Thank you for covering the funk genre! Always love your content.

Interesting share. I like horns, bands and solo artists that have incorporated them. It's interesting you brought up Stevie Wonder, yes the keyboard settings in your song example of him. Yeah I have heard Cole's style of jazz in a lot of 1970s sounds and even in the 1980s. The J.Geils Band was Funky and Jazzy like this at this pace on many songs.. Early Chicago,Supertramp, and The Bee Gee's also come to mind. Even Duran by their second album. Hints of similar vibes to Louis.
