Day one and two of a four day backcountry canoe camping trip in Algonquin Park with our dog. Took place September 17-20 2021. We had beautiful weather, and saw some fall colours start to peek through. We set out onto Smoke lake and made our way to Bonnechere Lake where we grabbed one of the best campsites in the park! On the way to Bonnechere we reminisced about the last time we did this loop and included a clip of a group of otters that were very curious about us on the last trip. We also completed a challenging portage called The devils Staircase. At camp we were entertained by Emma's rambunctious behaviour, set up our new hammock, went for swims, and cooked up some steaks for dinner over the fire. Steaks were served with mash potatoes and a medley of onion, mushrooms and asparagus also cooked over the fire. On day two we set out for Lake Louisa completing 5 portages including Stairway to Heaven. We found another perfect site on Lake Louisa and enjoyed beautiful sunny weather swimming and relaxing. We thought we might have mice on the site late at night as the food bag kept being disturbed, but we had some hot coco and settled in for a great night.

The rock formations at that first camp site are amazing, like something that was alive and been petrified that way. The textures, and the layering , with the roots running across would keep a photographer snapping all day. Love the way Emma jumps on the water when she swims. Also, with her in that mood better keep an eye on your shoes.

We couldn’t believe how beautiful that view was at that first site. We just stared at it all day. Really amazing. Emma gets a little cheeky on day 1 of a trip hahah too excited. It’s not until day 3 that she settles (tires herself out enough). Still has that youthful energy. We know enough not to trust her around shoes.. even at home 😂

Great video. I can't believe you shot that on your phone. It looks amazing. We thought the same about Stairway to Heaven - "It's only a bit over 500 meters"... I'm glad they cut up the largish downed tree that you weaved through on the uphill portion. It was quite poopy to deal with, uncut, in 2019. Your 1st site was spectacular! We may have a go at your loop just to check that one out. Cheers Tim

My wife and I got caught in a nasty cloudburst on Smoke Lake in Sep2020... Actually had to stop at a cottage dock to empty water out of canoe. It's a big lake! We did this exact route as far as Phipps lake. Lovely to relive it a bit with your vide.
@TwoPacksandaPup
@TwoPacksandaPup 2 года назад
Oh geez! Must have been an experience! Yea Smoke is a big one, last time we did this loop in 2019, it was crazy windy and wavy, we had to be very strategic about crossing, almost couldn't. You never know what you're going to get! Early morning is always ideal. Phipps is beautiful. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Thank you thank you!! What a treat! It never ceases to amaze me that once a bunch of dudes get booze in em’, they up and decide, while drunk, that leaving garbage around is OK? When I was a practicing alcoholic I was a rager, especially camping in the backcountry. I always packed all my garbage out no matter how hungover I was!! I did have a question. What kind of shoes are those you guys were wearing that you could go in the water withem. I’m gettin tired of the teva concept on the yak. Thank you again. NQU

It’s a shame when you find trash on a site, real downer for sure. Thanks for checking out the video! James has the Merrell Choprocks and I have an older pair of Merrel Hydrotrekkers. We wear thin wool hike socks with them and have never ever had a blister or any other issue. Love the ease of not caring about getting your feet wet. Of course we’re quick to take them off at camp and get some crocks on 😂

how do you find that Anker solar panel? does it work well for you? i have one but haven't put it to the test yet.
@TwoPacksandaPup
@TwoPacksandaPup 2 года назад
Hey Doug, I don't rely on it as my primary power source thats for sure, but I use my camera a LOT (obviously :P) so I bring a battery bank. I use the Anker solar to top up once we arrive at camp which is helpful on longer trips to preserve my battery bank and really stretch it out. I feel like it could be a primary power source potentially if you were interested in setting it up while in the canoe, or you use your devices very minimally like James, but it does work best with full sun.
