I was a part of the Central Station Model Railroad Club, and the pine lumber we used for the Railroad on the second floor came from the attic and was aged yellow pine, as we made cuts the smell of that sessioned wood are still fresh in my memory.

Outstanding as always!...I loved the "history" aspect of this one....learned a lot from it. Even though you mentioned that the L&A "went away" in '92 ... when I was a crew caller in the General Office Building at Deramus Yard in 94... the 2 crew calling desks were known as the "L&A" desk and the "KCS" desk!!!! I worked the "L&A" desk, and called crews from Shrpt to Pt. Arthur and Mossville.... and from Shrpt to Baton Rouge-New Orleans... and from Shrpt to Wylie TX. That desk also called the crews over the Minden district... helped to create many "trainmen" friends for me in '94-'95.... the "L&A" crew callers desk was a "hand full" !!!!!! (this might help you understand why I "know so many names" on the KCS railroad!!!)

I’ve got a few pieces of the L&A in my garage, salvaged off a wood caboose I inherited in extremely poor shape. I was able to salvage and reassemble planks that have the Arkansas part of the name and the dual L&A/KCS logo.

Imagine the variety if it were still so many regional lines across the country. If companies still existed whose concern was linking places like Shreveport to New Orleans, instead of the few mega companies today. Would be interesting. Question, does anyone remember when the line from Springhill LA to Hope was pulled out? Thanks for posting!

I remember seeing some of the white KCS locomotives with L&A stenciled on them in small print. (Baton Rouge area)

Interesting video. Ironically, we do have four steam locomotives that have been preserved from the L&A.

If my grandpa wouldn’t have died, I could’ve been CEO of KCS probably….
