Gets me even more pumped and excited for soon the return of our number 60 here in the east on BR&W. Can't wait to finally be up close and personal, working a shift with her, whenever that day comes around. For now, it's just the good old SW9, that personally is one of my favorites of the roster so far.

Great video LRP, Love seeing and hearing steam locomotives at work. I caught ex-Southern Pacific 6379 yesterday on ZAILA first in Doyline then once again behind the Sciport theater in Shreveport.

I thought the last short line to use steam in regular revenue service was the Crab Orchard & Egyptian RR as they were using it up until the early 1980's.

Gonna have to say it: Reader Railroad in southwest Arkansas was still serving an asphalt plant in the 70s. The stuff was too thick to flow through a pipeline. Steam powered mixed trains, daily except Sundays, IIRC.

Are they no longer running two trains a day? Tank cars? It always made for a fun day, especially back in the 70's & 80's😊

Here is an interesting fact this locomotive is my third oldest friend in Steam locomotion the first being Grapevine Vintage Railroad 10 wheeler number 2248 and the second being the green train at Six Flags over Texas I got to ride behind the 400 from Rusk to Palestine and one thing I remember was seeing her sitting next to the water tower in Palestine with her centered headlight versus the headlight mounted what all three of my old friends and steam locomotion sharing comments that they are over 100 years old 400 being over 100 since 2017

when I was in boy scouts we camped there, then went for a ride on that train over the weekend. the parents were hyping us up for a steam engine the whole way there. we walked to the station and the run before ours came in with one of the steam engines leading. they then proceeded to cut it off and swap a diesel on :/ I guess they had issues on the previous run. anyway, after our ride we were left to our own for a bit while the adults went inside for something. we found some of the diesels parked nearby and turned off. we went over and started checking them out, one of the boys ended up opening the door on the nose. at that point someone from the railroad wrangled us up and returned us to the adults and everyone got in trouble. fun times, now Ive gone in hundreds of locomotives, get to use the controls, mainly the brakes though, and i get paid for the privilege. :} interesting, the diesel we were caught messing with was definitely a more modern one than what is shown in the video, maybe it was on loan. do they still do the "train robber" bit I remember that as well, but not much of it.
@LouisianaRailProductions

I don’t think they’ve done the train robber bit in a few years but I could be wrong on that. I remember seeing that as a kid too!

It is also feared that the same problems that she had during the southern steam program would likely rise again if she was used on the TSRR

Word is the TSRR is redoing all of their track with 115 pound per yard rail and redoing their bridges to handle more weight. I smell the possibility of the restoration of a Texan titan.

Hey Bishop, I have a rather-significant correction to your video: The Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania is a commercially operated shortline railroad, NOT a pure tourist operation. And Strasburg still uses steam for freight revenue service to this day. So the Magma Arizona is NOT the last shortline to use steam for revenue service. That honor belongs to the Strasburg. Other than that, good video.
