A Louisville male cheerleader is charged with a technical foul in No. 16 Louisville's 62-59 OT win over No. 4 Pittsburgh. Rick Pitino shares his thoughts. (Courtesy of CBS)
@josh1422 if fans rush field too early in football it is a 15 yard penalty (see Texas Tech vs Texas 2008) ... and those are fans, the cheerleaders are school sponsored attendees, with special privileges. Let's face it, it was a stupid move and it almost cost the ville the game
@josh1422 Ok in this situation fine, but lets back off for a second and play devils advocate. A cheerleader/fan etc comes onto the court and blocks a shot... Imagine a 3 in the corner at the buzzer right in front of the cheerleaders, cheerleader reaches out and tips the ball/arm of shooter, not that incomprehensible, especially because it would be unexpected. Is that a technical in your book? This play is the same situation without any actual game changing consequences.
@johnlaf13 only the players should get fouled. It's makes no logical sense to penalize the dam team when they had nothing to do with the cheerleader. It's bullshit and you know it
Head coaches are responsible for conduct of their bench/courtside personnel and considering their cheerleaders are on the baseline. Absolutely the head coach would be responsible for their attendance and conduct
If there is no meaningful consequence, then cheerleaders will feel empowered to delay close games by preventing the other team from quickly putting the ball back in play.
