My wife handled his securities in Memphis and my son got his autograph and it said” Love and Happiness “ Al Green! He was a very nice man and friendly ❤️

'Let's Stay Together' is still my favorite Al Green song.

Been fighting late stage cancer... This song along with many other uplifting R&B/soul songs is on my going the infusion center (chemo) playlist. Helps to get your head in the right space.

You have to listen to Al Green covering the Bee Gees song "How can you mend a broken heart". Pure fire.

Quick story: my wife and I saw him in Las Vegas in the 1990’s at the newly opened Hard Rock. We were seated at round cocktail lounge tables. A couple songs into the setlist Al Green says, “We have a very special guest in the audience tonight.” I swear the stage spotlights found their way right on my wife. WTF? Al says, “Let’s give a big round of applause to Mr. Billy Preston!” Unbeknownst to us wife was sitting shoulder to shoulder with none other than Billy Preston for the entire show. I don’t think either one of us remembers much else about that show because we couldn’t believe how lucky we were in that moment in time. Unforgettable evening.

These songs taught us a lot about the universal human experience and how we’re all alike. Somewhere along the way many of us have forgotten.

An Al Green & Lyle Lovett duet covering Willie Nelson’s “Funny How Time Slips Away” is a killer. My favorite is their performance on Letterman, but the album version is fantastic too! Sick keys, organ, bass, and brass! They shine!

And to think that when I was in my early teens this was just standard stuff on the radio in the cars. We had the world by the tail and did not even know it... 😉

I used to drive around town listening to this song with my best friend, not a penny to our name but grooving to Al Green. He's gone now, I'll always think of him when I hear Love and Happiness. Thanks for getting to this one, glad you enjoyed it.

I'd probably do "Take Me to the River" next, but he also has "Look What You Done to Me", "I'm Still in Love with You", "You Ought to Be with Me", "Call Me", "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)", and "Let's Get Married". Plus a fine version of the Bee Gees "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart".

I saw him live. He came on stage wearing a white suit with tails and starting throwing roses to the ladies in the audience. I thought what have I done … then he started to sing….sublime

Here I Am (Come and Take Me), also a great one by Al Green. Al was all over the radio in '71-'72.....then he seemed to drop out of sight....I can't believe this song wasn't pushed more by the record company. It's so great.

Check out his Soul Train appearances from 1972-74. There's a version of this that's phenomenal but my favorite is Jesus Is Waiting. All the songs he did that time (he's wearing a yellow shirt and his arm is in a sling - no, it's not the grits incident) are amazing. He was promoting Call Me, which I think is the best of that staggering run of albums.
