I can tell you that yes, Madeira has crazy landings. We were approaching for landing and about 2000 ft up we instantly dropped a couple hundred feet and shifted left real hard. But, the pilots were all over it.

Madeira has been getting some play recently. Thomas Heaton and Mads Peter Iverson were at a conference there not too long ago. Nigel Danson loves the cloud forest. Should have some great opportunities for photography there. Looks like a nice trip. Carry on. 👍🥂

I absolutely loved my trip to Madeira it's so beautiful. About the runways - you drive underneath them on the way out of airport going south - crazy!

If you think that airport landing is sketchy, try Toncontin International in Tegulcigalpa, Honduras. When I was a small child, I visited my dad's homeland of Costa Rica and our flight had a stopover in Tegulcigalpa. I remember looking out the window even at age 7 and thinking, this plane is sure banking hard to land here! It turns out, Toncontin is rated the world's second most extreme airport because its approach navigates between mountains and the runway is very short. I just read that international flights finally migrated in 2021 to the new Comayagua International Airport, located 70 KM from Tegulcigalpa. It's a long drive into town, but I guess improved safety warrants it.

Madeira looks amazing! I've seen more and more people head over there lately, and it looks like a paradise!

The first spot, where you showed your tripod pointed at a scene 5:19, I would love to see a photo from that spot...those sea stacks are awesome. Madeira looks incredible. There are some pretty amazing forests there too based on a video I saw from Nigel Danson.

I'm on the photography trip in Madeira at the moment and this Island is amazing!! There are so many photo locations here, you can spend weeks here, without getting bored!! Your first location is a great sunrise spot, just walk/climb up the hill. The view is stunning from there!!!

Sugestion: I don't know if it's possible for you to check the sunsets over the year to see when the sun would light up those cliffs. It's possible to do those things with sky maps of the stars, maybe with the sun too. I'm embarrassed for not having travelled to madeira yet 9:23 I think it just gives it some scale 😁
