PLZ READ: Before anyone asks where this is or what trail it is that I hiked just know that I purposely left enough “hidden in plain sight clues” throughout the video for you to figure it out on your own with a little bit of research (think of it like a scavenger hunt or an Easter egg hunt hehe) ALSO: There still be tons o bots and spammer-scammers out there. Do not fall for them! I will never, would never, message a person offering or asking for money/prizes/etc or any sort of incentive to chat with me on another app/txt like telegram/whatsapp etc. (I do my best to stay on top of ‘em but it’s a waste of precious time tbh ;P)
A little tip Anna for your next hike! We have at the pharmacy some patches called false skin. Don't know if you have it there! They are transparent and you put them on before you start your trip! If you have new shoes or lightly used shoes. Put them on walk in to water and walk them dry. Then you get the shoes to mold to your feet!
Just found your channel. I am a single woman with no friends and no family who would be interested in this. But I want to go hiking and camping so badly. I did one solo trip - first hiking and first solo during Covid to the Zion National Park in Utah. Almost died twice but it was so amazing. You're such an inspiration! Keep it up! And don't worry, I would have cried too.
I'm a solo hiker too. Zion Park is one of my favorite places. It was a different atmosphere when I had someone to hike with but I won't let that keep me home!
Wow what are the chances. I came across your video while editing my own of this gorgeous hike. My fiancé and I met you on this trail as you were hiking up and us hiking down. You shared with us your backpack fitting experience, how REI helped and how it was your first solo camp. We were glad to meet you. You were so sweet and kind. Best of luck to you and all of your upcoming adventures. ❤Taryn and John
Crying in the backcountry, it happens to me all the time! Nature is so healing, seems that the stress of life combined with all the love and gratitude in your heart explode in overwhelming emotion when looking out a such beauty all around you. First solo's are special! congrats!
Great video, thanks for sharing the ups and downs with us. One small tip I could offer, that could prevent a HUGE problem for you: DO NOT get into the habit of pouring boiling water into your hand.... Put the bag on the ground, and always pour water in a direction that is away from your body. Even into a cup for coffee, if you're holding it on the gound to steady the cup, move your hand over to the side, so if you over pour, you miss your hand or fingers. Burns would be bad in daily life, in the backcountry, injuries are even worse. Please girl, be safe.
First time watching you...congrats on your first solo trip. You're crying not because you are a crybaby, but because doing big things, accomplishing goals, especially by yourself, is life changing. And that's emotional. And scary. And amazing. And the overwhelming emotions rise to the top that you are in the midst of accomplishing something important to you, you are in nature, surrounded by these amazing views, and you are fortunate enough to be able to do these things. That's worth tears. I've experienced that every time I've been on a solo trip. Congrats again!
I really love the enthusiasm and the fact that you are not one of those extreme through-hikers. You being mortal makes this feel inspiring and achievable.
As a lifetime backpacker who often goes solo, I’m so glad you’re experiencing this brand of adventure. I think it’s a life-changing hobby that improves our relationship to Nature and ourselves. Bravo! 👏🏼🌿
Going alone and having the chance to be completely alone with your own thoughts and impressions is something more people should definitely experience. There's nothing at all like the peace it brings you. A lot of people act like solo hiking is the most dangerous thing ever but it really isn't.
This is the time to get out and do the adventures while you can. There are many out there with this on a bucket list that they may never get to do and to enjoy what nature and scenery to see hike and create memories. Thank you for taking us on this path.
Indeed. I am crying watching this, as realizing w/ my current health issues, I most likely will never get to go backpacking like this w/ my spouse after all. Many people w/ long covid face similar struggles at younger ages... do stuff now!
I've backpacked all over these mountains and have found myself overcome with emotion the same way and I'm 58! It's too stunning for words. Let me know if you ever want some less traveled amazing destination hikes! Thanks for sharing this!
@@blackbearhiker1420 I live near Seattle, would live recs too! I'm about to head South for a couple months but would love to explore the less traveled WA trails next spring/summer :)
I think you cry because your a caring feeling person and when faced with the incredible beauty of the natural world emotion takes over. I'm a 66 year old man and not ashamed to say I've done the same thing a few times most recently on the Dalton highway above the artic circle. Love your vidios, keep on keeping it real 💞
PNW is soooo beautiful. 😢right with ya, happy tears you are living a beautiful life. The view and beautiful trail you hiked, camped at the perfect spot , Mountain View ,the emotions can run high when we are out in nature in a beautiful serene quiet place with nothing but the sounds of nature all around us. Makes you feel alive!! There is nothing wrong showing your emotional side. Sometimes the release alone makes us feel so much better. U are so adventurous and fun thank you so much for taking us along on this beautiful backpacking trip, look forward to what you will be up to in Canada.✌️🌻
I used to backpack (not the type people seem interested in today - Baja to Canada). I'm 74 now and camp and day hike. I'm impressed by your first effort to solo. In fact, you impress me. "Go for it girl, go for it!"
What an awesome adventure! All the doubling back to get the camera must have made it extra tiring but I definitely appreciate the views we got though. That's for taking us along! I appreciate the hard work you do!
Beautiful scenery, beautiful story, beautiful tears. Thanks for sharing Anna and thanks once again for your vulnerability. For the record, there's absolutely NOTHING WRONG with crying. Most of us could/should let those tears out more often. It's OK to feel ALL the emotions; that's what makes us human. Take care and keep living YOUR life. In gratitude, Tim
The Pacific Northwest is great, but your videos remind us why we love it here. This one was especially good for me because you were right where I grew up doing one of the things I still love to do, even though I am maybe closing in on three times your age. I learned to ski, later worked at the ski area where you left your van for your hike, worked for the Forest Service there on summers while going to the university. Even though I am an old man, I again find you inspiring. Life is good.
Terry...do I know you? I worked at said ski area in 80's and worked for the NPS in Stehekin. I found Ana's channel because she reminded me of myself at that age.
I have spent the last three weeks lying in bed because I had to have a tumor taken out of the bone in my leg. Challenge your body and appreciate your health. You go girl.
🇬🇧 I cried like that when I marched up and camped atop the second highest Alp at 22 years old. As the sun rose over Italy, the shadows shortened in France. I mourned the death of the overcautious boy in the frozen tears of the man who emerged from the chrysalis of my tent. That baptism continues to define the rest of my life.
It feels so good to see aapi womyn hiking/backpacking truly is encouraging for poc to get out there and enjoy nature. I enjoy watching your videos and hope nothing but the best for your travels. Keep it up!!! You’re doing an amazing job ❤
Honestly Anna, the dedication u have to place ur camera up on a hill then come down, get in ur tent, turn ur light on, get the shot…turn it off , get the shot…and then go up the hill again to grab your camera… genuinely admiring! Really enjoyed the editing and the way you took us with u and how immersive it felt with the different camera angles. Keep up ur good work! ❤
Getting out of van, using your legs to take you into the woods where 4 wheels can’t reach is the real gem. Hope you like backpacking enough to explore more in the woods and mountains :)
Anna : One thing among many of which I like about you is you aren't timid about trying new things. Way too many people say I want to do something adventurous but I can't right now. Later in life they I wish I would have done it when I had the chance, Very few people ever say I wish I had never traveled or skydived . I should have just stayed home and watched travel shows on tv.
Wow if you were actually solo, then walking up for the "camera shot" then going back for the camera must have been a workout, no wonder you got blisters. Anna there is a product called Mole Skin found in foot care sections at many stores that will be your friend if your next chapter will have you hiking a lot. I took my hiking shoes and turned them upside down in a container that had fabric softener in water to make the tops of my shoes softer, the part touching the heels especially I did not soak the soles because of I did not want the glue to loosen, but after they soak a few hours, I rinsed them well and then walked in them while they were wet until they dried if they had leather. They would dry formed to my feet and they were soft while walking as well, just an old soldier trick. As you go through a few nights be sure to list things you need to make the trips safer and more enjoyable so we can help. So proud of you for taking life by the horns and making yourself so happy it causes tears. You are living the life we all want, and I am for one am happy for you.
I appreciate your kind and encouraging words :) thank you. Also--thank you for the Mole Skin rec! (this is going to be a game changer for my future hikes for sure!)
thank you for sharing this anna! i've watched soooo many (like, really, a lot) of channels on here and i genuinely appreciate the amount of coordination and work you put into a video like this. it's refreshing to see amidst so many channels that don't go that extra mile (lol). if you're ever out kentucky way, give a holler!
I loved this SO much. Thank you for sharing your adventure Anna! Super relatable. I’ve never gone backpacking, but I reeeeeally really want to. Videos like this make it feel a lot more attainable. Thank you again! Also appreciated the level of production with all your tripod shots and different views. So well done! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This was so inspirational to watch. I've been wanting to backpack solo forever but I'm so scared. I'm one step closer towards that dream because of you. Thank you!
Just stumbled across your channel this morning whilst bingeing hiking and backpacking content. I miss it and am slowly getting back into it. But the shot of you waking up and sitting there alone in the presence of such grandeur made me emotional before you even started crying and then when you cried it was game over babe. 😭. I felt this soooo deep and I am so happy this view and experience moved you to tears. There are simply no words. Love your channel 🙏❤️
Go get 'em, Girl! A few months ago I also went on my first solo back trip....I flew across the country to solo backpack in the Sierra Mountains. It is very empowering to say you want to do something, then go do it! It taught me that it's ok to have fears and doubts...but to still put one foot in front of the other as you walk toward your goals. This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I am so impressed. You. Are. Badass.
I am amazed that you did it by yourself, all alone!!! I would be spooked and scared too by the unknown. I love that you’re courageous! Crying is being human and alive, just as smiling is!! You got this “life” thing!!! I’m impressed by you and trust me, I’m an ex-military veteran and what you’re doing alone is awesome!!
I love this video because it shows the very real side of backpacking. Everything doesn't always go perfect but you make the most of it and enjoy the beautiful scenery and everything you worked so hard for. Even when you started crying I really felt the emotion and knew that feeling, when you're out there you think of the journey and life really just hits you in that moment with everything you have going on in life in general. Its a happy moment that most who haven't experienced wont understand when you're out here. You gained a new subscriber and fan. Stay safe on the trails, looking forward to whats next!
I think you know that now you have to do a gear video to tell us what was in your pack! I love learning about that with all the details, like the R Value of your pad and rating of your sleeping bag, even cost and overall weight of pack, if you want to provide that. I love backpacking as well as vanlife so it was really nice to see one of my favorite vanlifers (or sailors now?) break into that world! Keep exploring, Anna
Some day down the road I'll feel confident enough to share a detailed video of what I use/pack/tips (but I'm such a novice...I don't think I should be offering any thoughts or advice to anyone on any of this just yet) haha...
I cried the first time I backpacked too. That feeling of waking up with an incredible Mountain View is incredible, plus as someone also from the Midwest it can really feel surreal. Amazing video ❤
I was just there on Saturday! This trail is absolutely beautiful. I'm glad you were able to see it. Finishing on those stairs going up was definitely the worst. You choose the better option.
It was still at times a challenge going down those stairs with my big backpack but--I know I definitely would've loathed going up them at the end haha. I got to enjoy the views a little more going down too!
Thank you for being so vulnerable during this video. I've been planning to camp and backpack here in Michigan solo for a while and I've never really gotten up the courage to do so. This video was pure and wholesome and even through the tears you trekked on. Inspirational!! 😊
I think you have done a great job sharing your experience with me! So far I am the only one that know you got a little emotional on this hike? You are an awesome person!
I cry every single time I go out camping. It is just so overwelming and all the feelings come out. Sometimes just when I am hiking a dayhike. Nature and silence just lets you be.
Another fantastic video. Can't wait to see more of these. Also, if no one has already told you, there is a product called Second Skin that can save your feet when you're hiking.
Loved the video. Love that you can appreciate the beauty around you. I would be crying too! Look forward to seeing your Canadian travels. I bet you drove right by me crossing the border. The nature is epic in BC. Enjoy!
Mad props to you! I have never tried to backpack hike but it's really hard for me to see myself doing. I'm a very delicate being and sleep is SO important to me since I already have issues sleeping. I just don't know if I could manage camping like that. I completely understand that overwhelming gratitude you fwlt. This weekend driving out to Salt Lake for a comic con and thinking about my life brought tears to my eyes bc I was so grateful! Maybe think about packing bactene next time for any blisters? I'm not really sure unless you use second skin or put bandaids before starting the hike.
watching your video brings me back to my first solo hike in the dolomites. it brings back all the heavy chest, all the pain i felt, all the tears i shed whenever i found a quite place to just space out. i hope you're ok, i hope you didn't start your trip to getaway from anything. but if you do, i hope you find a way to cope it, to make amend with yourself. you're strong, you've been through a lot, you deserve some love, espescially from yourself.
Beautiful shots! Thank you so much for carrying your heavy camera to take those shots. I love it. There is no feeling to compare to being in the mountains among natures cathedrals. No building can compare to the magnitude and awe you can feel in a mountain pass.
First time viewer. I really appreciate how real you are. You have great editing skills. I'm glad you left some of that stuff in. Thanks so much! can't wait to see more of your videos in the future.
I’ve been talking about camping to everyone I know as an Island boy turned new Colorado resident it just seems so right!loved your video Anna, I’m rooting for your happiness&success. your future is bright \Shawn
Love this video! I was born and raised in Washington St… from Bremerton to Vancouver Wa. Then moved to Arizona Nov.2020… Huge change! Thanks for the good memories 😊 ❤
That little 'well damn' made me smile. Waking up in a gorgeous environment is what it's all about to me. Last year I had that exact feeling while waking up between mountains in Norway.
A tip for not getting blisters. Use liner socks. The idea is that that the friction occurs between the 2 pairs of socks. Has worked for me for years. I recommend Wigwam ultimate liner pro. (not a paid endorsement unfortunately)
I used to get it every time we played soccer match. Later on i realized just taping the back of the heel using the white tape helped. No more blisters.
You should be proud of yourself even though you didn't do your 2nd hike 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 sometimes the views get me also don't be embarrassed. Here are some tips if you want them. (1) There are ointments and powders to help prevent blisters. (2) There are attachments to most backpacks it's kind of like a belt that's where you should put your bear spray. (3) Get a good quality fixed blade knife put it on the same belt or on your backpack shoulder strap for quick use. (4) If you're not planning on carrying a firearm sharpen a long stick and leave it in your tent when you're sleeping in addition to your knife because you don't want to use the bear spray inside your tent. Good luck on your future camping and hikes 👍🏻
@@annauncharted No problem I'm happy to help. If you need any more as a Marine with extensive survival, hunted, camping & general outdoors training I have plenty just let me know.
Backpacking that's always great idea 😎 The longest trail that I've taken was for 25 days long, of course I was in group of my friends but there wasn't any civilization for whole way at all , no people, no houses, even no trees nothing, just rocks, glaciers, altitude and snow, it was really hard challenge for us 🏔️ So i encourage you to try more of that I promise you'll love it 😉
I really enjoyed experiencing your first solo hike. I think you’re onto something with your content. Very genuine feeling(I’m sure it all was). Please keep making more!
Love the honesty and editing here. You could lead a class on how to film and edit! Absolutely stunning views and super inspiring. I want to do this and always feel like I'm not prepared enough. I'm learning from you. Great work!
Completely understand the tears, sometimes the emotions whether sad or happy can me a little overwhelming. It happens to most of us. Beautiful video, well done. I loved it as I love all your videos. I like how real they are.
I understand the emotions, especially when being out in nature alone. I feel I wish I could share the experience with someone special, and yet I want to soak it all in with no interruptions. I have not experienced too many solo hikes or solo camping trips, but watching your inspiring video encourages me to try harder and go for it. Thank you for sharing the beauty.
Wow, this is a beautiful adventure. Your videography is stunning and your editing is excellent! Thank you for sharing your first solo hike with us all, it is very cool. I was smiling with you the entire time except when those tears overwhelmed you I cried with you too. I frequently also find myself crying with the beauty and thrilling moments in life, and I am 65 now! 😅 Your ability to be your authentic self is very attractive, and you have a new subscriber here as I have onkj just found your channel. Loads of love, and keep up the great work, from a Ninja Nana in New Zealand! 😍 🌿 🙆🏻♀️ 😊 🌳🏕️🗻🏞️🏘️
When you cried, I cried with you. I can feel your happiness through the screen. Keep going! Been wanting do to this too for awhile and I don't have the chance yet because I lack of resources. But girl, you inspired me. I am going to pursue it before the end of the year.
Anna, I just found you and am so glad I did. You are doing what I never did but thought about often. Now I am 70 so hiking is in the past for me. But what I AM about to do is take to living in a van and become a Nomad! Man it feels good to know that is coming true this summer. Excited, you better believe it! So keep living all you can now and keep living from here on. What ever you define as living well.
Hello Anna 🤗 Thank you for this beautiful new video, I love Bagpacking in such an inccredibly beautiful landscape, your sleeping place is amazing, have a good time even if tears flow sometimes, feel hugged 🤗 and have a good time, love your videos, Andreas and Balou xx 🐕 ❤️
Congrats for completing your first overnight solo backpacking trip. That looked FUN! Awesome visuals - WOW ! 2 cents - Maybe shaking up those food pouches before adding water would help mix the ingredients better... or maybe not. Also, 'Bear Bells' are a wise investment when hiking in bear/cat country.
Another great video as a new adventure starts. Anna you are just amazing, and I always get the urge to give you a big warm hug to say go girl…it’s a dad thing. I look forward to your continuing life affirming adventures in nature….take care and watch out for those bears
I would love to do this trip, you're so inspiring! I've never done a solo trip either and looks like it all worked out for ya, except for the blister. Can't wait to see more.
I was sitting here (mentally hiking with you the whole way) then saw you take the care to unzip the tent from inside and suddenly I was in tears coz I felt you care-sharing what you wanted us to see and then there we were, both in tears of gratitude. I'm grateful for you. In your own way, you're mountains too. Wonderful videos you make, in all senses of the word.
That is an epic campsite!!! The Cascades and the Olympics are awe inspiring. Mole skin can help with blisters also just covering a blister with the large cloth adhesive bandages works great too, they stay stuck to your skin really well and your sock and the bandage take the friction not your skin.
Just found your channel and I have to say, it's very interesting. I've followed a few solo camping channels around the world and it's refreshing to see your, just a bit, different aspect of boats, van life and now backbacking. So, I'll be waiting your next video. Stay safe and enjoy your travels :)
That moment of you being vulnerable, the fact that you shared is huge. I admire your growth, and it's clear you're thinking on a higher level of consciousness.
Wow! Beautiful country......One day I'll make that hike. Backpacking is an acquired skill, after many hikes, you figure out what works for you. Awesome view at the morning tent opening. At 15:23......wow, lots of hikers on that trail.
