So until you do, “love” wont be enough. God TYPE OF love is great because God himself can actually handle and have shown with his life he can handle the responsibilities of loving us as word stated. I never liked this statement. If you do not love your spouse - have the FEELING of love for them, you will eventually grow resentment. You cannot CHOOSE to love anyone, otherwise everyone would choose to love the best possible match for them and then there would be no divorce. A partner by this definition of love could just as well be chosen for you by a computer for best possible marriage outcome.

But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. love shouldn't fail in marriage. Absolutely 100% correct everything he said. Because love isn’t a feeling and some days you don’t “feel” like dealing with any issues that your marriage can have. Therefore, you shouldn’t getting married because you “fell” in love. Cause if you can “fall in? You can “fall out! You grow into loving someone. It takes Wisdom and knowledge and then ok we are super in love with one another and we get it. That’s how it’s supposed to be.

True. but I think the right understanding of this message is having the right concept of LOVE. If you LOVE your husband or wife, you will respect him/her, and you will earnestly seek knowledge from God and understanding. The word is clear Ephesians 5: 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. It’s because Dr. Munroe’s statements are based on God’s word. And it’s not exclusive to Dr. Munroe. God can make you wise too if you seek him. Start by reading the Bible. Moreso, start by surrendering your life to Jesus Christ.

Well said. Dr. Myles Munroe was talking about the idea of romantic love and marriage work. The emotional feeling one gets from being with someone. Love is not a feeling that we feel. Love is a decision that we make daily. The genuine act of love leads to our feelings but love is not what we feel. love is who we are. Love is what we give. For God so love that He gave.

My take on this is Eph 5:22-25 Husbands love your wives, wives submit unto your own husbands. No one can truly love another except the love of God is in his heart. The bible also says dwell with each other according to knowledge. Love is the foundation then you build on it with knowledge, wisdom etc.First its your love for God & its kingdom that empowers you to love others every other thing is hanging on love.

Hi brother, I guess what Dr Monroe was teaching us, is to sustain the marriage with the knowledge and wisdom of God... Because the attacks of the enemy also comes with strategy.. Feeling of love, just as any other feeling, is just an indicator for the action. Real love comes with commitment. Love is an action. It's a commitment. It's an attitude towards another. FEELING of love is just an indicator, like feeling of satiation when you have eaten. But just like any other rewarding feeling - people tend to focus solely on that aspect and abuse the system.

I agree love does not make a marriage, I’m seeing that now for myself. I’ve been married for 5 years and got married when I was 21 not knowing a thing about how to be a husband but I knew I loved my wife. Here I am 27yrs old and before any man or woman gets married I would say get knowledge and understanding. On what it means to be a man and a woman, and also how he be a husband and a wife. I totally agree. Even if it sometimes isn't that easy to apply this knowledge. It would definitely help to ask yourself before marrying someone: I love my partner all right, but will I be able to deal with his/her idiosyncrasies? Will I be able to shut down my ego for the sake of the relationship? Do I really know how men/women tick, so that I can understand the dynamik of my marriage? I think Love's role in a relationship is to soften our heart, to make us willing to forgive if neccessary, to give us the impulse to show affection, to manifest our good feelings towards our partner. Feeling real love deep inside (not just having a crush or phantasizing over someone) is a indicator that you may be compatible with that person, ideally on all three levels: physical, intellectual and spiritual. Nevertheless, engaging in a relationship with the person who makes you feel like this, is a CHOICE. They say "Love is blind". Yes, love is blind to the shortcomings of our partner, makes us accept him the way he is more easily. Makes us question our own behaviour. Makes us in extreme cases even ready for sacrifice. If it weren't for Love, it would probably be harder for us to do that on the basis of knowledge and understanding alone. BUT it definitely takes knowledge to keep a marriage/relationship going. You have to know HOW.

This video made a lot of sense. The title itself was very touching! I was born and raised in a traditional Church of Christ household and I met a girl from the Church of Christ and I followed the scripture and loved through all the thick and thin and really thought that that would always keep our marriage together. The marriage did not last too long. The reality was she was a spoiled child who moved back in with her mother to take care of her because she was not ready to be an adult. She still isn't to this day because we still care for that same child that we had together. A 38-year-old woman raising a 7 year old girl. No knowledge on how to be a wife no knowledge on how to be an adult. This all really hit home. And I am currently having serious problems with my second wife. We have been together 3 years, and for all the love and all the connection I was certain we had, I know that the love will not keep it together.

Yes, love is a commitment, decision, and most of all a covenant. If you choose to get married, choose to make it last a lifetime, especially if there are children involved.

Love is so pure and when two persons sacrifice their love for one another on the altar of marriage never intending to get that back again, then a family is established. After that the family is sustained through periodical addition of more love, more sacrifice, thoughtfulness, care on the altar of marriage. When you attain 55 years of age and cannot even eat out alone in a fine restaurant except with your spouse and children, know that you still carry the embers of love inside you for your spouse. Nothing can destroy your marriage when you attain that status, provided you are still humble enough to acknowledge the blessing that God bestowed upon you two in extreme privacy. Hope I just shared my inner man with someone in need.....

This is amazing. I think you’re spot on. When you say love doesn’t hold a marriage together, I think you’re referring to fleshly love. Godly love is a different story, Godly love or Agape love says LOVE ENDURES ALL THINGS. That kind of love conquers all! Sadly,that’s not the kind of love most of us humans have. Most of us, when we say we’re in love aren’t talking abut that kind of love. Our feelings and infatuation for someone isn’t enough. People in love get divorced all that time. Having the proper knowledge to effectively handle conflict is what keeps a marriage together. When stuff hits the fan, how do you handle it? Knowledge is everything.

I agree. However marriage and love wasn't established to be perfect as love is found through imperfection. Imperfection is apart of development for any relationship, through then you truly find the essence of what love and forgiveness means. I agree but sometimes the bad doesn’t come out till months later I was in a relationship and the lady turned physically and verbally abusive after 6 months I stayed for 3 years hoping she was going to change. Never happened

I think that true love is what moves one to get the knowledge to support their marriage to get through the humps and work it out. But, it takes two people to make it work. Commitment is key also, but knowledge would let you know that you must have comitment along with other things. I love Dr. Monroe's preachings.

As a African American, I think about my slavery ancestors who were unable to read or write yet their marriages flourished under extremely unjust condition. What kept them together? Love… Love is the foundation of marriage not knowledge. Don’t need to read to love. It’s written in the heart.

Knowledge is not just or only gotten by books ( read or write). Knowledge is "Information about...". The more information you have about something, more you can better deal with it. Analyzing your example "slavery ancestors..." although they didn't know how to read or write; they knew more about how to deal to be together. They knew the principles of living together. Each party knew his place, duties, rights in marriage. It is about "Knowledge" and the application of that knowledge. There are several channels to receive knowledge ( Culture, Persons, resourceful person or well-versed person in domain, and the modern resources of stocking knowledge: books audios, internet...)

I agree with Pasto Munroe. You need the knowledge (information) in order to know what to do or how to do it. I've been reading more parenting, marriage, and communication/relationship books for about 2 years now. It's been quite sobering to think that I am teaching my children marriage and general relationship dynamics. We all are. We must ask ourselves whether we're teaching right and good dynamics intentionally or wrong and bad dynamics thoughtlessly and ingorantly.

I kind of agree and somewhat disagree at the same time. Love is a choice. I love because He first loved me (1John 4:19). I live a life of because I am so loved. I can know what my wife needs, but if I don't make the choice to love, or if I am starving for love myself, she won't receive from me what I now choose not to give her (selfishness), or don't have the capacity (strength of character) to give her. Knowledge and understanding is good, but we often need grace to both will and do that what we know. My thoughts on this very interesting topic and video!!!

Brother Simon bless you bro. Sometimes we preach everything and talk so much and do not respect and recognize the will of the person. It’s ultimately up to you or the other person. Many of us humans KNOW what is right and CHOOSE to do the exact opposite for many reasons personal to us. I’ve come to understand that human relationships are not theoretical as man is not a reagent. Even God, after the cross and all the amazing sacrifice of love towards man, recognizes that it is still up to the man to choose to accept or reject it. You can do all that is right and still have a failed marriage because you can not manipulate the will of the other person. Knowledge is good, wisdom is great, but two can’t work together if they’re not in sync.

great points!!! At the end of the day also, there are good, bad, mediocre -and everything in between - marriages, and then there are great marriages. Where I can kind of agree with this video is that if one spouse wants a better marriage, they can be the instrument that God can use to bring about change in the other, and change in the marriage. It takes 2 people to fight for a great marriage, to have a great marriage, and at times it is only one person who may want a great or better marriage. Through continual growth of the one spouse, and the practical application of knowledge as Dr. Munroe puts it, great things 'can' happen. (Key word 'can'). For the husband - Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life ...(1 Peter 3:7) For the wives - Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; (1 Peter 3:1) That takes character, willingness, and the wanting of a better marriage, and wisdom and understanding to get there one step at a time!

Well you saved me some time! I would assume you might be able to put together an even stronger, longer and close to irrefutable address here. However that's looking unnecessary All that remain are faith, hope, and love. I say this in contention to the concept that a marriage, or ANY relationship between to sentient humans requires more than love. I also believe one must universally, and not contextually define love in a minimum 3 ways: Romantic Love, platonic love, perfect love (God's Love) If these three were meant to be ranked in importance or sincerity we may find, that much like the catholic church, romantic love often falls short in proof of concept. Romantic love tends to be driven by individual desire, and while fixating on another being with such obsession one finds themeselves making their choices out of selfishness. Wanting to do things, and have others do things for your benefit in the relationship. I believe that God's Love is perfect, and much unlike any other "versions" of love named herein, focuses on the person(s) outside of you via refinement of the spirit being inside. The idea is that our EGOs, and phyiscal bodies make many grand requests of our time and mental energy to serve needs and systems aimed only at fulfilling that very Body and/or Ego. Those employing, studying, and walking in the path of God's love are truly blessed with the wearwithal to recognize the value of free will, intention, patience, selflessness ( to the highest of human capacity) are the bounty and when practiced ON PURPOSE, or by CHOICE it is more than enough to hold any relationship founded on positivity together.

I agree love does not save a marriage. As the word declare in Proverbs 24:3-4, through wisdom is a house is built and by understanding it's established, and by knowledge are the rooms filled with all precious and pleasant riches. Without these ingredients a marriage will fail. As the famous Tina Tuner once said "WHAT LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT" and you know the rest of the song.

I think you need love first and then just as important, the knowledge and wisdom, that only comes from walking with God and living in his word. God is love... his words to us in the holy Bible are out of love for us to live in his righteous ways and love one another. Not “be in love with one another” because feelings come and go, and marriage can not be based on the feelings of being in love but by having the “knowledge” of how God loves us first And for us to love God above all, and then love one another the way God intended for us to love. ❤️I feel that someone that loves God first can love me sincerely.

Sun Child the problem today is that women think that loving a man the way she wants to be loved keeps a marriage together, but if you don't understand how men work, we don't need that type of love we need respect and honor, thus can give the love a woman wants. Respect for men is love. Without that 'knowledge' we have a cycle of bad relationships. I highlight women because the destruction of marriage is caused by modern day feminism gender and the emasculation of the male. They tell us men and are the women are the same, and that is lack of knowledge. We don't know our human nature anymore. So yes Love is not enough according to today's definition of love.

I agree AND disagree. I was in a common law marriage for 10 years. Okay, I was not perfect, I had faults. But he got involved with drugs and as a result, money issues and unsavory people hanging around our home. I felt he made that choice. Maybe I didn't try hard enough to be there for him when he needed me, but in the end I feel he should have not made the choice to take drugs. He is no longer on this Earth, and guess what? I still love him... He was a hurt soul.💖
