Love/Hate was one of the most under rated/appreciated bands of that era. Skid was a master song writer. Jizzy had(not so much with Ratt now) an awesome vocal range (see Mary Jane, Dont Be Afraid, and Tranquilizer). Two of my all time favorite albums are Wasted in America and Blackout in a Red Room. \m/
I still listen to these guys nearly every day. Definitely under rated/appreciated for sure. I wish they had a longer run. Skid was the sh*t, great songs! I really liked Jon E. Love's guitar too. What ever happen to him?
Yes, you are 100% correct. These guys were waaaaay ahead of their time. I saw then at the Whiskey and other clubs in LA before they got signed. They RULED L.A. and well deserved. I saw what it took to become successful and was lucky enough to be acquaintances/ friends with the guitar player etc. Just a great band. And the drummer is one of my favs. Nobody plays Love/Hate drum parts like J. Gold....nobody....they all were irreplaceable.
i had to work as a roadie back in 86 87 around Hollywood circuit with these guys what a blast sometimes we walk out as the sun came up over the F.M. station good memories
Played with you guys a few times in my life, it has been a pleasure to know and still know you... Just showing a 13yr old the virtue of great music right now...
Only 68,000 views? I guess I remember this song and band being much bigger than reality does. These guys are far better than the average rock band at the time...and I love many of the bands at the time.
They were so unique in every aspect - funky sleaze metal! Made me wanna kick ass and thrash things around me. Such an adrenalin rush, I only think the old Skid Row had that same impact on me
I completely missed this band in the early 90s, as I was into thrash & the 1st wave of death metal. I liked a lot of hair metal & hard rock too but with the transition of all hard rock to grunge, this just missed me. I just discovered them during the pandemic & I'm pretty darn impressed with their creativity, musicianship, and songwriting. This is my favorite song from the 1st two albums. That dual-guitar melody intro is simply amazing - I just wish they would have brought it back again somewhere in the song. The middle section "I don't know why things are the way they are" at 2:05 is the same chord progression but sadly the 2-part guitar harmony isn't there!!! Regardless, killer song that just gets me so pumped and makes me feel damn great!
If you study L/H music you'll see that we are not your typical formula Pop. songs. We have always been unusual to our approach .Breaking traditional rules in music was our passion. Peace, JL
I bought this album when it came out I hurd none of the songs off it I had blackout in the red room but......that was enough for me to buy it to me anyway.
Love the melodic guitar sound in this song, particuarly in the chorus I only knew this band for the single "Blackout in the Red Room". Glad I found this!
One of the best voices of all time in my opinion. Such uniqueness in a voice is a rarety, especially in this day and age. And good lord that bloke can move. ^^ All in all, quite the talented and handsome lad ;) Grew up with these guys, and still listen to them to this very day. Thanks to whomever posted this vid. :)
Most underrated band ever! Their two first albums is among the finest sleaze metal releases ever, but in the early nineties things were moving in other (shitty) directions. Too bad..but at least we got the albums (and RU-vid).
I remember BLACKOUT & Love/Hate constantly appearing in the HOT METAL mag that used to come out. When the CD single of Wasted in America came out in mid-1992, it was like a shiny beacon amongst the grunge. Year 10, good times.
the more i re listen to them, the more i realize they were unique in this line up...all great musicians, verys special, Joey Gold was a Fantastic Guitar Player, absolute fine maker of Riffs,Licks and Melodies, which fufflilled the first two records.....
Jon!!!! oh my God,it s really you??? sorry for the name mistake, but yeah you did it Great man!!! if i fell in Love with the first two Love/hate records it s also because of you!!! those songs are full of a fantastic Guitar work, which i rarely heard in other records... i could compare it with the work of The Edge in U2 ,for it s way more than just guitar playing...it was creating melodies which surrounded the songs and enchanted me...thanx man, what are you up to since then? why did you went away?
These guys were great. What happened was that Nirvana hit, and unfortunately, the industry withdrew all support from bands that didn't fit the new mold. More than a few great bands were flushed. I myself had room in my record collection for more than one type of Rock...
This band is much better and innovative then many other hard rock bands of the 80s and 90s. I prefer these guys to something like motley crue, ratt or poison
Did lighting for Dizzy and the boys at Toledo motorspeedway in 1993 or 1994….They opened for Guns & Roses. Remember sitting on the roof of their house in Venice, CA…getting stoned during the L.A. riot's…these guys were very underrated…they had it all…dyno licks….T*
Some rock bands like janes addiction, faith no more and the chillies didn't seem affected by grunge as they had an alternative rock vibe - but love hate etc even though they had great songs started to sound but also look old fashioned.
This is exactly the reason why I wish I'd been born earlier - I'd not only have this sorta awesome music - and be able to see them live - but not have to put up with Justin bloody Bieber :L
