Loved the story of your yarn rolling down the theatre under the seats! I could picture you retrieving it during the intermission! Every knitters nightmare but glad it was all OK in the end. It was nice to see more of Toaster in action today x
Go with the neutral for the blanket border. The colours are so gorgeous! If you use the pinknor any colour for the border it will take away the focus of the Beautiful blocks.
I believe I would go with Cottonwood Breeze for the border. Since there are so many different colors in the blanket I think the Wild Orchid might detract from some of the softer colors in the blanket (which looks great BTW). Congrats to the bride and groom. Hope all went well with the celebration. *)
I once sat on my 3.5mm needle and it broke 🥲 but since they were made out of wood I just glued them together with wood glue lol. Lightly sanded it afterwards to get rid of the excess glue and tah dah ✨ as good as new
Hey Natalie! I've been watching for aaaages but haven't commented much - I wanted to say thank you so much for your podcast! It brings me a lot of joy. As an Aussie my first #question is why in the world does your brother play Australian Rules Football?! I'd love to hear that story. But on a more serious note, you mentioned a few months ago that you were learning how to do your accounting but then would hand it off to someone else to do. As a small fibre business owner myself I found that really interesting - do you have a VA? When/how did you decide to hire other people into your business? Thanks a lot, Kat.
Oh Toaster! He was very active today. So glad your time in TN has been so good! So excited to hear about the sponsors for sock week! I just started a new musselburgh to have a portable project. Planning is such an important of our knitting journey! So glad your rolling yarn was okay! Your suggestion regarding the feeder needle being smaller, I do that when I’m workings the sleeve of a sweater so I can have both sleeves going at the same time. Our dogs, just like our kids, act a bit different when their parents aren’t around.
When I’m on the go with my knitting even in our car I put it in a ziplock bag so it doesn’t get wet, dirty or something spilled on it! I leave part of the bag partially unzipped so the yarn feeds easily. I always do this and now I’m glad I do since hearing your episode.
In South Africa we has a public holiday Freedom Day. Enjoy podcasts today. Musselburre hat so beautiful. Qudrafenia wow Disney 👌 love this blanket Citrine light go go girl go A special hug to my internet doggie boy
Oh my goodness, this happened to me last night at dinner. I was working on my Love is Triangular shawl and my alpaca skein jumped the bag and fell on the floor. My WHITE alpaca fell on the floor of a restaurant and my hubby is super fidgety and constantly moves his feet... so thankful he didn't mess up my wool!
About the yardage vs weight discussion: I would've just said that a yarn usually comes with a weight-to-length conversion, so anyone could do the math on it. E.g. the Laceweight yarn I am working with currently says "50g - 400m approx (437yds)". And EVERY yarn I own that I still have the label for has come with this conversion, so I could calculate quite accurately how much length I have left based on the weight - and don't need to know if a blend with more wool is longer or shorter than one with less wool. Also all the hand-dyed yarns I've seen have the weight/length ratio given for the undyed bases.
Cute stitch marker ❤ the milk bone ! I love it 😅.and so cute , Toaster head on your shoulder, towards the end of this ! He’s so sweet , and patient . 🐶🐾. GREAT TIP ❤
Seems like you're having a great time in Nashville. I just got to see the Six show as it traveled through Philadelphia and it was such a fun time! Definitely worth seeing if you get the chance.
Regarding the yarn twist, I read that if you do a center pull vs. from the outside of a skein, cake, or ball, the yarn twists more, and will result in a tighter twist.
Z twist and S twist definitely cause ‘pin-striping’ in opposite directions. If you use a blown yarn - tube with merino, alpaca etc, blown in, don’t cause the striping but plyed yarns do.
Thank you so much for answering my question! I just read the article and feel so mind blown! That is exactly the reason for what I’ve been experiencing with this sweater as it’s ply seems very susceptible to the tilted “V.” I so appreciate you helping e understand my knitting anatomy!!!
I’m excited for you for the near finishes on your winter knitting:) I vote for the vivid pink yarn for the border of your blanket which I think fits with the fun colorways.
I am brand new to knitting, my 2nd week. I just happened to find you a few days ago and I love watching your videos. I am looking for knitters to be friends with to learn and grow and have a "community " that I can talk too....
Ahh welcome to the knitting world!!! The RU-vid community is great. I'm hosting some make-alongs in the next few months (#cozyalong2023 in May and #sockweek2023 in July) that you are welcome to join us for. I'd also suggest looking for a local yarn store to find other knitters near you!
Oh my goodness! I had to listen to the Six soundtrack after you mentioned it in this video. Love, love, love it! Thanks you! I love history, especially royal history and this is perfect. Hope the show comes close to me in Chicago or Milwaukee. Can’t wait for more knitting videos. Have to check out the cozy knits. Have fun at your brothers wedding!
I didn't realize the drink cozies were included in the cozyalong. How exciting! I just recently made the skinny can cozy. Side note, if you flip the skinny can cozy upside down, it fits over the neck of a bottle as well! I also made a cute little sweater cozy that my friends got a real kick out of when gifted with their skinny can cozy.
I like both options for the icord blanket border. I’ve been so into pink lately and that pink is so pretty! So weird - I’m working on socks while watching this and when you held up the sock in black and white filming it looks just like the slip stitch sock pattern I’m using called Twizzler socks.
On the weight vs length: I also prefer weight. Also the lengths listed on yarn labels are estimates because yarn is sold by weight. They are normally pretty accurate estimates, but there can always be differences in how a yarn is spun which leads to variation. Just an interesting fact.
Speaking of knitting at events, we went to the NCAA tournament at Ball Arena in Denver in March. I called ahead to ask if knitting needles were allowed and I was told they are not, even though their website does not specify it. Their website only said weapons were not allowed. So bummer I couldn’t spend those 5hrs knitting.
#question your sweaters and other handknits always look so well kept! Do you remove pills often to keep them looking new? If so, is there a tool you recommend? I currently have a pile of socks waiting to be de-pilled and can't work up the willpower to do it 🫣
With the border of your Quadrophenia, I think it depends what look you are going for. If you use the pink, that will make the pinks in your blanket pop and the border will make a statement. If you use the neutral, the colours will retain the blend you have created but the border will not be to the fore. Either look will be beautiful, but the artistic choice can only be yours ...
I just picked up a Lantern Moon set (one of the ones that's a 4 inch length, because my Lykke are 5 inch). Really love them, they still have the warmth and grip of wood, but more slippy than my Lykke set.
Yay! Perfect timing. Getting ready to finally use some “nice” sock yarn for my 3rd pair of socks ever made, and I’ve been wanting to make one of your knit cozies to keep that nice yarn in. And 5/1 is my bday! Love your podcasts, the blanket is beautiful! Maybe the lighter color border would show off all of the other colors?
I like the wild orchid for a border-however, I am a green girl. Nature put green foliage with every flower. Maybe a softer green. So it serves as a kind of neutral. Just a thought…
I had the problem where one of my legs of my stitches were slanting and my problem was that I was wrapping my yarn the wrong way. I was twisting my stitches. My life got so much easier when I stopped doing that
Just a note on the logo on your website: when you were showing it & said “see the logo here?”, I couldn’t. I had to squint just to see any of the light pink on the grey background because it just doesn’t have enough contrast. On the black background it was fine. Please take into account those of us who are older than you in your design :-)
The color you’re missing the card from for your quadraphenia is Tea Party. You lost the card before opening it and were able to message the dyer to play your guessing game on day 22.
Hey Natalie I am curious about why you don't rib out a bit of the Musselburgh to make it longer since you wish that you had done that? I totally get that you have spend a lot of time knitting it. Lately, you have talked a lot about minimalism, having less and appreciating what you have and in my mind taking the time to make it exactly like you want it is putting love and appreciation into the project. and In the end, i believe that you should do what is best for you
Hi Natalie! Love your podcast and videos. As an avid crocheter (on and off for about 10 years) I've decided to pick up knitting, but i currently only have the budge for straight needles. Do you have any projects ideas using straight needles
#question Hi Natalie! I am just starting my granny stripe blanket and I’m wonder what your method what’s for changing colors at the end of the 2nd row and do you have tips for weaving in your ends… thanks for all the great content!
Nothing wrong with crinkly yarn, but it drives me bananas, so I use my steamer. Your mileage will and should vary. I'm uptight about yarn flurgke-bloop.
#question When choosing yarn for socks do you have to go for a yarn with a percentage of nylon in it? or can you go for 100% wool? if you do go for the 100% wool how does it change the sock, i.e. less stretch, wears faster, etc. Love the podcast, and hope you had fun and the wedding 😁
#question Hello! I'm pretty new to watching your podcast, so I'm sure long time viewers will know, but what is sock week? Does it cost something to join in? What does it entail? Or where can I find this information? Thanks so much!
#QUESTION : I enjoy your videos so much that I started back at the very beginning to catch up- I think I’m up to 58 now. However, often you’ll reference a video in those ( love letter to a shawl, a colab with someone etc) and I can never seem to find those. I stumbled on a video documenting the pattern testing of a shawl for someone else, stopped to do something, and couldn’t find it again. The podcasts are numbered so they are easy. But the other videos are hard, if not impossible, for ME to find. They don’t seem to be in your video list. Any suggestions to help this technologically dense crocheter?
Quadrophenia would also work as a shawl. The dimensions of the wrap (42 x 42 inches) are close to the Half-and Half wrap (43 x 43 inches). I cast mine on with the intent of using it as a shawl and blanket just like my half wraps.
@@KnittyNatty You could fold it in half down the seam and wear it like a traditional shawl to keep your shoulders warm. It would be a double-layer shawl but because of the different minis plenty of color variations. New York winters work for having a super think scarf/bandana if you wear it in the front. It will definitely be fun to play with and style but also super functional on the couch. I use my half wraps for both the couch as a blanket and shawl and love them. I wish I could give a better description on how to wear the wraps. EdibleThoughtsMakes has a great video on how she styles her wraps ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uYj2kVWIcPA.html
I was just wondering when you are going to start your All of the Lights sweater. My sister and I are making it and loving it so much! Also is there a window next to you that Toaster is looking out?
Hopefully soon! I'm just finding that my brain is needing to do simple things and wrap up projects right now, but I'm starting to feel the itch to cast on a new project! Yes, he's looking out the window!
#question Do you have any tips for working with used/crinkled yarn? I’m having trouble getting a consistent gauge with the crinkly yarn I’m using from a project I frogged and it’s driving me nuts. Thanks for your help!
If you have a swift you can put it back on (so one big loop for max surface area) and steam it gently with an iron. I have seen another Podcaster do this and it relaxed the wrinkles right out!
#question Please help! I bought you skeins of knitpicks luminous lace at the beginning of my knitting journey, without really knowing how to use a lace weight. my issue now is that I don’t want to make anything lace! does anybody have any summery top pattern recommendations I could use may be holding it double?
I’ve enjoyed your podcasts so much for a couple of years. Purchased your sock class. I have to say, am not a fan of the commercials that have been in the recent ones 😞
LOL, I couldn't help but focus on it either but I thought it was intestines and the colon at the bottom 😂😂. I really couldn't imagine why that would be hanging on the wall. That makes me feel better that it is a brain!
Do you ever get tired of knitting like this? You put a ridiculous amount of pressure on yourself to meet deadlines, which are really just self imposed. Do you ever just take a break and mindlessly knit? No deadlines, no goals, no perfectly planned schedule, just mindless knitting? The amount of pressure you put on yourself is enormous
I don’t mean to be a pain in the tush. But your pronunciation of Musselburgh is incorrect. It’s not Muh- sul- borough like a borough of NYC. It’s pronounced Muh- sul- burg. It’s a city in Scotland and the burgh part is pronounced burg not borough. Sorry. I’m a word person. Love you.
So sorry but have to wuit watching you. Paused the video to put dog out came back and then had to sit thru a 45 second video plus another for 5 more seconds to skip video. I understand thats how you make your money but the ads are too long (every time you pause it) and life is too short. Sorry as i lived watching you.
