In the movie "Bohemian Rapsody" Freddie shows this performance to his girlfriend and says "it was the largest paid audience in history" and continues: "the whole night I did't know if they understand a thing of I was saying, and then..."(the audience sings love of my life perfectly)
The official audience was 250.000 people. And it was on a big field at open air. This was the first edition of Rock in Rio. And it was the first time that brazilians saw a big stage with so many internacional artists. We used to live in a military dictatorship since 1964, with a reopening at 1985. At that time it was so iconic to us. The second edition of Rock in Rio, in 1991, was inside a stadium. The Maracanã Stadium.
Oi, Tiago. Eu estava la neste dia. 250.000? Oficialmente, talvez.
Chegamos no local do show meio-dia! So umas laranjadas, que acabaram super cedo. Neste historico show do Queen, eu estava exausto e quase nao conseguia ficar em pe. Literalmente.
Triste fim deram ao Rock in Rio...
Frank, vc tem que entender que "Love of my Life" praticamente o brasileiro abraçou ela, ela praticamente é brasileira, é a música mais "brasileira" do Queen🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
“Love of My Life” é uma canção do quarto álbum de estúdio, A Night at the Opera, lançado em 1975 pela banda de rock britânica Queen.
Hi, Frank! Even the festival Rock in Rio itself could not have happened ever without the band Queen! I will explain: 1985 Rock in Rio was the first Rock in Rio ever! At that time Roberto Medina (the promoter) was not known, he and the team was inviting the big international rock bands, but everybody was reticent, not wanting to come to Brazil. But Queen had already did a huge show here in Brazil in São Paulo's Morumbi Stadium in previous years (2 or 3 years before) so they confirmed that they were playing in Rock in Rio 1985 (and so motivating the other bands to do so). So it became what it is: one of the biggest music festivals of the world and history!
I was too young at the time (I was four), but if I had a time machine that could go back to past in time (without changing things, of course), this is one of the moments I'd choose to visit, for shure!
Another thing: I agree with John Deacon.. after Freddie was gone, the band is over. I can't stand Adam Lambert! I know this is polemic and a lot of people like him, but nobody can replace Freddie.. The only concerts I accept after Freddie passing away are those tributes with a constalation of artists singing with the band! (Elton John, Axl Rose, George Michael, David Bowie, Annie Lenoxx and the list goes on).
A música rolando e o locutor literalmente lendo a tradução kkkk
Nobre Fabrizio tudo bem ?
Meu pai foi nesse show, pulando o muro do rock in rio.
Anos depois consegui o DVD desse show. Queen é coisa de família kkkkk Meu pai, eu e minhas irmãs amamos.
Primo Rock a Rio. Mia madre è andata ai Queen's Day. 1° Rock in Rio.
Abd remember that only 5% of Brazilians speak English! That huge audience Singing that song by heart in English meant a lot to Freddie. This is probably why it is shown in the movie.
You have to understand, they in a foreign country where not that much people speak english, and a crowd of estimated 500 thousands people all singing outloud all your songs. Something special was going on there.
@@asanamaria obrigada! 😄 já sugeri algumas outras coisas pro Frank e ele reagiu. Por exemplo, Tema da Vitória do Ayrton Senna com o Roupa Nova. Muito legal poder interagir através da música. Eu queria trabalhar com algo ligado a música.
Wow that’s emotional, I was at home watching it because I was young. I remember I recorded everything in my “videocassette” because I already loved Freddie. Best concert ever! ❤️ He was amazed because people’s language in Brazil is Portuguese and everyone knew and sang in English 🙋🏼♀️🇧🇷
What people outside of Brazil don't know is that in this ocasion he did not have to work the crowd. That's how brazilian crowds show their love to our favorite artists. We may not even speak english, but we know the words of the song. That was love statement from 300,000 brazilians to her majesty Queen.
Brian May has a PhD in astrophysics. John Deacon studied electronics, and Roger Taylor studied dentistry. Freddy graduated with a degree in design. All 4 are immensely talented in multiple ways
I was at the Montreal concert as well as the Live-Aid concert. Both of them were amazing but the Live Aid took the cake. I was blown away. I will never forget these concerts! I still have part of those tickets framed and will never part with them. I'm so lucky to have been part of these incredible moments in history.
Hey Frank, This is Brazil when we speak about the special moments to artists and us. The brazilian public is a people loves music very much and this concert with Queen it was very special to the band and for us too, because the first Rock in Rio was heppend on the big field on the west zone from Rio de Janeiro's town. Always the brazilian pubilc will be a special moment to your favorite artist and to record when we started sing a song together with then. you can see that on the same concert with Iron Maiden with song Fear of the Dark and in Rock in Rio 3 in 2001, when they came back to Brazil to play on this concert too. After that they come back to play to Rio to play in 2019 on Rock in Rio too. Each concert in Brazil is very special to us and for the our favorite band or artist when we sing a song together. The energy changed between the artist and us, it a thing very special to everyone. a great hug to you.
We, the brazilian people, when we love anything, we really love... here Freddie was a king, beloved... the 85's Rock ib Rio was a moment to honour and show to Queen how much that love was and are real... the biggest coral ever....
Rock in Rio happens on a special arena that's put together specially to the festival, every time is happens. It's called Cidade do Rock (Rock City). This was the biggest paid concert Queen ever had, even bigger than the Wembley one. I'm 40 and a huge Queen fan who didn't have the opportunity to watch Freddie live. As unbelievable as it might sound, I actually remember some flashes from this concert that was broadcasted by Globo TV, I was 4 years old. Never seen Freddie live, but I got to see Queen+Adam Lambert in São Paulo, 2015. One gets what one gets
That's why i think that Brazilian crowd is the best, our energy, passion, emotion is vibrant, and like if the singer can't sing, or doesn't want, don't worry we got your back lolllll
Queen was formed in 71. They first album came out in 73. In 76 they had 4 albums already 😜 Him letting the audince sing most of this song has nothing to do with him being tired. This was a thing he did with this song.
I WAS THERE !!! Nowadays i ve lived in Moscow for almost 9 years but i m from Rio de Janeiro ... January , 1985 first Rock in Rio Unbelievable year to all headbangers For 1st time in the Brazil History we had opportunity to see all together incredible concerts as IRON MAIDEN , SCORPIONS , OZZY OSBOURNE , AC⚡DC , WHITESNAKE , YES and of course this awesome QUEEN concert ... each band played on two different days . ( just IRON MAIDEN played only 1st day ) So , i did watch all of them twice at that time 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍👍 Nice reaction bro Thanks for bringing me amazing memories ...
Oh my gosh! Thanks Frank! I love Queen❤️❤️❤️ Eles fizeram uma homenagem no Rock in Rio para o Freddie em 2015 cantando Love of my Life. Apenas o Brian e o público.
Anything by Queen I love, and every Queen reaction is a gift to me. Love to see so much love for them all over the world, still in 2020. Makes my heart happy. Amazing musicians, and Freddie, a once in a lifetime frontman. Much love and bless to you and keep up the good work.
Well, What can i say? I WAS THERE!!!! 1985, my hometown it is about 4 hours driving from Rio. Crazy days!!! Quenn, Iron Maiden, Acdc e lots of others great bands!!! 17 years old!!! Miss that time!!!
Here on radio in Brazil, they always play this version of RocknRio 85 and it always thrills me a lot when I listen. I was born in 85, so I had no idea what the band was. Just as you say in the video, I also have the same thought: This captivating figure is gone too soon.
I always heard that this show was epic, but I postponed stopping to check it out. Thanks to Frank's channel I was able to see this presentation and ... well .. wow !!
Frank, I was there my friend ! Incredible moment ! The best FESTIVAL, the best performance of Rock in Rio !!! Rock in Rio 85: Queen, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne, IRON MAIDEN ...amazing man and I was there all data !!!
Just to be more precise! The Works Tour in 1984/1985 was one of Queen's largest tours and included the Brazil Rock in Rio festival-in which they appeared on stage at two o'clock in the morning in front of 470,000 people during the first night and 250,000 on the second night. The Boston Globe described it as a "mesmerising performance".
Valchiria, I was there.. It was electrifying and Mercury said it was the pinnacle of his career. They estimated well over 300k paying crowds. I remember the concerts were very expensive for the time. The Rolling Stones concert you mentioned was in Copacabana beach with 1.5 million people attending in the sand, road and in the ocean. A humanity beauty.
I am 54 years old and I was there, january 11st 1985. Your words make me cry, brother. This was a great moment In my life, is In my heart forever. Thank you for the vídeo. Thanks for Mr Deacon, Mr May And Mr Taylor. Miss you Freddie! All my love!!! ❤️
It's nice to notice that the crowd is the most part brazilian… so that amount of people thats is not english speakers, singing along the whole music, is impressive…
Me, at my 12yrs old, with my cousins, we all are there. I was in the second show (thursday, january, 18th 1985), was a very rainy night, and right before, at tha same night, we saw Kid Abelha, The B-52's, Lulu Santos and Queen (there was The Go-go's too, but I don't watch tem). In that night, there was 250,000 People in the audience. At The opening, was more:300,000... I think that this vídeo was capture on the first Day...
This was in the First edition of Rock in Rio... This place was build exclusively for the festival... They called the place as Cidade do Rock (Rock City).
/// Even in the movie about Freddie, it is said that he thought it was the best moment of the group, I do believe he thought it, because it was (is) really amazing!
Ah,the first Rock'n Rio was antologic!Great shows and great performances were made there.See the gigantic audience? The ground was full of mud, because rained too much on that days but no one gave up and stayed on the mud just to see the greatests rock bands of the Twent Century. This presentation of Queen and Freddie Mercury was one of great moments of the festival, for sure! Many bands dream to repeat this moment like The Queen did,but no one got It until now! Unfortunately, the Rock'n Rio of now are just a shadow of the first shows before. Great choice,Frank, anyway.
I cried for days because my parents didn't let me go to this Rock in Rio. Today I would do the same with my kids, I was just 11 years old at the time...lol. All TV channels,, radios, magazines magically promoting the event, Ney Matogrosso opening the festival to make it more surreal. Every time I see any video from that especific festival makes me go back in time, ❤ pumps as it did in my early age biggest dream.
