This documentary explores the three major views on hell and God’s judgements that have been held by Christians throughout history: eternal torment, annihilation, and universal salvation. The movie emphasizes the idea that universalism is taught in the Bible, was a popular view held by many Christians in the early church, and makes the most sense of the love and justice of God.

To those who say, " If there is no forever hell, then what's to stop me doing whatever I want?" to me says that deep down they are not really living for God through love, but through fear.

And Jesus spoke of a prison, and said you won’t get out “until” you have paid the last penny, never forever though, and God called the slavery in Egypt an iron smelting furnace, there is still rewards and we don’t want to go through the lake of fire, but it is surely not forever, I go by what the Bible originally says not what when said it says over time, Universal Restoration is true, God is Love, and I encourage you all to go on the total victory of Christ RU-vid channel, there is a real Kingdom and opportunity to do well and be rewarded, even crowns given out and authority over the nations, we are motivated to conform to the image of God’s son, it is so much better in many ways, with or without the view of the forever punishment, don’t we still want to do the creators will everyone? 6:12 "You don't really believe it." Amen. If you really thought (sensed*) you could commit mortal sin at any moment, you'd go insane. This is why autistic (or *sensitive) people suffer from eternal hell the most. I have mild autism and was a Catholic. Hell drove me to clinical depression and near-unaliveing myself.

I can relate to that a lot. I have autism and OCD and late last year my obsessions started hyperfocusing on religion and the idea of the afterlife. Learning about universal reconciliation pulled me out of it and strengthened my faith even further (while also giving me a new positive fixation on theology.) I’m so thankful that God laid that path for me to follow. I hope you’re doing well nowadays and that you’ve recovered from that depression.

Yes, so very true! I have deeply suffered because of erroneous views of God's judgment of those that reject Him. It was deeply painful and has caused so much extended depression in my life. There were times I felt God was very unjust if the things I have been taught were true, but I was afraid to voice it. Yet at the same time God kept alive in me hope, however feeble, that could not die out.

God bless those that put this documentary together! The doctrine of eternal hell has plagued my mental health for years. The thought of non-believing friends or family being trapped in never ending darkness or fire forever and ever just really did a number on me. I'm now truly starting to believe that God's love for all creation endures forever without any end. Our actions can still lead us to temporary destruction or judgement but God seeks to restore all things through Christ!

Heresy is simply diverging from the traditional teaching often self decribed as orthodoxy. Orthodoxy does not equal biblical, correct, or godly. The Roman Popish religion would kill you if your understanding of God was different than what they taught. Just knowing about a different point of view is not dangerous, it's what you do with it. So far in my 1 week investigation of universal reconciliation I find that it exalts God more than ECT, but I am staying alert so to not fall into a snare of the Devil.

How can universal salvation be even remotely true when it just gives the whole world an excuse to murder, steal, rape, lie, molest and still go to heaven? That's the most insane thing I've ever heard. God is just and He will repay. Universalism is a deception from the devil that was influenced through nothing more but hopeful, empathetic beliefs. No true believer who desires to follow Jesus has ever received revelation from the Holy Spirit that ALL people go to heaven. Annihilationism cannot be true because the Bible teaches hell is forever. Unless the Holy Spirit gives a person spiritual revelation then we cannot speak on such things. And IF a person HAS received such a revelation to KNOW God told them ALL will be saved, then why are no Christians out there saying that beyond a shadow of a doubt ALL will be saved? Why aren't they so sure of this being true, and proclaiming such wonderful news, rather than speculating and arguing with others? If Jesus spoke it to a person, then they will NEVER need to argue or speculate because when God tells us something we know for sure it's true. There's no doubt because it comes from a spirit of love, of power and of a sound mind. Annihilationism cannot be true because God did give me revelation to know that hell is in fact for all eternity and that yes, God does love those who are His, but hates the rest of us. The rest are goats. People need to stop trying to twist what the scriptures say just to be hopeful for a better outcome, and and instead pray about it and ask for Revelation from the Holy Spirit. I don't know why people can't see in the scriptures that God doesn't love everyone, but for some reason they refuse to see it. Eternal torment is true.

Those who are so hell bent (pun intended :)) on focusing on scripture (their own interpretation of it of course) always seem to forget one thing: When Jesus walked the earth, there was one group of people who thought they had it all figured out. They had scripture, the word of God and they were the true servants of God (so they thought). They were the ones who wanted Jesus dead. They hated him for hanging out with "sinners" and preaching all that "heresy". They tore their robes in anger. Its quite astonishing how the "evangelical bible believing born again servants of Christ" cant see the similarities. Read about the Pharisees again and then look at your own beliefs and argumentation. Its there in plain sight.

@DavidLarson100 2 месяца назад
@@webz3589 As a Catholic, I think the idea of mortal sin doesn't have to be seen as you drastically as you likely are taking it. It requires a gravely sinful act, which, yes, most people do, but also FULL knowledge and COMPLETE consent of the will. It's described as an act completely devoid of love. The dad who skips Sunday Mass to go to his son's soccer game is not looking at an eternity of torture and choosing it with full knowledge and consent in an act devoid of love. He's likely not totally convinced it's a big deal and is actually acting out of love and support for his child. As a hopeful universalist (as universalist as I believe we can get as Catholics), I do not believe that is a mortal sin, even if skipping Mass is gravely wrong. But God will ultimately judge. Jesus even said on the Cross that those torturing and killing him were forgiven due to lack of full knowledge. So I think there's plenty of room for hope.

I wasn't raised in a home that ever spoke of hell. And I am so grateful. I was a seeker of spiritual Truth since I was a child and avoided Christianity until I was in my 40's. Mostly through 12 Step Program of AA, but never thought about the hell concept. It was in my 60th year that my dear wonderful friend's brother died and she said she was so glad he was "saved" because he wasn't going to hell. I was so disturbed by the whole idea of being filthy sinners needing salvation and a blood sacrifice to avoid burning forever in hell. There was no way I could sleep at night if I thought my unbelieving dad, mom or children would go to hell for a minute let alone for eternity! I hate the teachings. There's got to be a better way to love Jesus than to accept the story of blood drinking and of hell!

But the truth that God is love was still beating underneath all that rubbish and anything that didn't fit with that truth caused extreme uneasiness within me. What definitively changed my mind from Eternal Conscious Torment was John 3:16 ironically. If the Creator gave himself with the hope that no one perish, yet there will be those who WILL perish despite the Creator’s will, then that means He, who is the highest good, CAN’T bring about the same- making him a liar or incompetent demon. If I want believe that He means what he says AND that in fact He IS omnipotence, highest goodness, and omniscience, then the only logical conclusions is that NONE will perish because that’s his will.

@chrisgreen2013
@chrisgreen2013 2 года назад
When scripture is read 3 dimensionally, from the inside, and not carved up from the outside, it makes sense. 1. Who is destroyed? The old man, that mode of personal becoming in rebellion against god. Who is saved? The new man, created through the intensely immanent grief, hope and joy of Christ which pervades the moral history of his universe, focussed up from his omniscience through his finite human subconscious and made complete in his sufferings and joy set before them. 2. What is lost? Potential, birthright, reward, inheritance of the firstfruits. What is saved? Sometimes just someone burned back to the primal love in which they were loved into existence in the first place, the elder now serving the younger. 3. What is the process of hell? There are many possibilities from extremely severe to relatively mild, from the corporately physical to the private fires of a conscience paraded before its responsibilities in post mortem empathy nightmares. For some, it would have been better for their mothers to have miscarried, for then they would enter salvation without trauma, and with the reward due to innocence. But god never, ever divorces wrath from grief, because he is not evil. His justice serves precisely to make someone experience his grief from the inside, in order to make them appreciate their utter lostness outside of Christ. The humbling effect of hell on the soul lasts forever, “extended into infinity” as Gregory of nyssa put it. The process itself does not, because it is a competent process designed by a wise god, and because the subject matter (a persons actual life) revealed through the process is morally rational. It is time to stop being petrified by persuasive sounding arguments to the contrary, as I was for two decades. What a waste.

Eternal torment is true.

it may help you to know that the bible recounts many central figures who have done things absolutely worse than you have. Apostle Paul wrongfully killed dozens of Christians before his conversion. King David, the man after God's own heart, committed adultery and murder WHILE having a relationship with God. And yet they both recieved forgiveness and recovered emotionally from the shame. They also realized that even through all of that, God never wanted to separate Himself from them. I'm confident you've never done anything that extreme, so how much more will His grace abound to you? Also, someone with a reprobate mind wouldn't ask this question anyway because they wouldn't care

This was a wonderful video! It is comforting to see so many teachers and authors from various backgrounds coming together in the complete victory of Christ! One of the gentleman interviewed mentioned contradictions in the bible. Understanding that Christ fulfilled the Law, the prophets and the psalms as prophesied has helped me share with others who see contradictions in scripture. We are the Kingdom now! His temple...the body of Christ. We are seated in the heavenlies! This could only be happening if the parousia occurred already. It did! The great tribulation and the appearing of our Savior occurred as prophesied during the first century. The eschatolgies of Christ as Savior of all (universalism) and His fulfillment (preterism) go hand in hand. I appreciated the gentleman who gave the history of universalism and Unitarianism. It's around the same time the church was taught futurist/dispensational eschatology. Blessings to each of you.

"I think it's because you don't really believe it [ECT]." (6:15) - I think there's a lot of truth to this -- no, people can't *really* believe that, or they would behave quite differently. But that isn't the end of the matter: this creates a bizarre rupture in one's conscious beliefs and one's actual being in the world. One doesn't believe otherwise, one REPRESSES it -- and so this conflict gets internalized deep down and what results is all the toxic behavior that is so common in so many churches and Christians. There is an intimate link between the belief in ECT and toxic behavior. It explains why, especially among fundamentalist, why toxicity runs rampant in so many OTHER behaviors and beliefs. What they can't really swallow ends up coming out in other horribly destructive ways: sexism, homophobia, and all kinds of manichean beliefs that cause so much harm -- and they can't even see it. Where there is belief in ECT, there is, almost without fail, toxic behavior. They go hand-in-hand.

Appreciate the perspective. I learned a bit about the universalist position but I’m still not sold on it. Chris Date’s position (based on Edward Fudge) on annihilation has substantial Biblical support and warrants serious consideration. I’ve seen Chris lay out his position on podcasts and it’s quite persuasive. Also, there’s not much serious discussion about ECT here. It’s just dismissed as having “no scriptural support” but without any discussion of why ECT has been the dominant view for 1500 years of Christian history. If you’re going to convince Christians that universalism is the more compelling view, you’ll need to present a detailed refutation of ECT. I’d love to be a universalist, if it’s true. But I’m not there, nor are many Christians today. I need to do more careful research.

Jewish theology puts forward the prophetic descriptions of Messianic restoration of Israel, as objection to Jesus' claim. In Christian theology, nothing the Law and Prophets have to say make final sense but in the light of Jesus. I would say the same is true of understanding of the Gospel. It depends on the direction you choose to read it. If you make Christ subject to hell, then universalism is of course impossible. If however, you make all things subject to Christ, including death and hell, what happens? Is there scriptual evidence for that claim? I find universalism compelling, but I don’t find this documentary compelling. There is too much focus on the people’s personal feelings and what would result if you believed in eternal destruction then you would have to think this or how could you feel this etc. God is providential and higher than any of our senses, so if eternal damnation is true, of course we would not understand it now. There were many good arguments here but also a lot of arguments based on how it would make people feel before and after death. Make the argument fully rooted in Hermeneutics, orthodox Christianity, and the original language of the text.

It was Jesus who made the comparison of God to an earthly Father. So the focus on how we feel, about hell and towards those we love is not unwarranted. It was Jesus who said, "Love your enemies" and "Love your neighbour as yourself". If I love my neighbour AS MYSELF then it would be impossible for me to enjoy heaven whilst my loved ones languish in torment. Psalm 19:9 says this, "The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether." Again in Psalm 119:160 " The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever." Clearly, this is not about what the Bible is purported to "say" or not "say" (could black letters on a way white page actually speak out to help the reader disambiguate any confusion), but about what the reader both perceives subjectively through framework of their upbringing, education, cognitive capacity, stage of faith, and quality of consciousness, as well as what they project into the text from the same set of mental and spiritual dispositions and assumptions. As such, the three options of ECT, Annihilations, and Universalism can be viewed respectively through the helpful framework of developmental spiritual psychology, to which some in the Early Church held: somatic, psychical, and spiritual. David Bentley Hart, in a video on the "doctrine of reserve" has recently reminded us that these categories were not just used in gnosticism, but they were prevalent among different groups in Late Antiquity, including among the proto-Orthodox.

I believe that it is a metaphor for God's refining process. From what I understand, "lake" of fire is not the best translation. "Pool" or "basin" of fire is a better translation. Notice tat the scriptures say that brimstone will be present. Brimstone is sulphur. In the ancient process of refining precioud metals, the metal ore was put in the fire and sulphur was added. The fire and sulphur would burn off the dross (impurities), eventually leaving only the pure metal behind. In order to test the purity during the refining process, the metal would be struck against a touchstone. The colr of the streak left on the stone would reveal the level of purity. In fact, the word "torment" in English Bibles was translated from the word "bazanos" in the original Greek text of the NT. Bazanos actually means "touchstone". So, when you see "torment" in English translations, it is referring to a word indicating refinement and purification.

Those who deny Jesus is the Savior of all would have 1 Timothy 4:9-10 say...This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, exclusively of those that believe. That's not what the faithful saying that's worthy of all acceptation is though. The word is especially of those that believe, not exclusively of those that believe because Jesus is indeed the Savior of all sinners. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10...Again, not exclusively but especially 1 Timothy 4:10 is clearly stating that God is the Savior of both unbelievers and believers. The context of this verse is that it is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation...you might as well embrace the true free grace theology now instead of later because it is the one true Gospel of the One True Living God. In the end we will all indeed believe 1 Timothy 4:10 because it is indeed a faithful saying that is worthy of all acceptation as stated in 1 Timothy 4:9. 1 Timothy 4:11 commands those who believe to teach this clear percept of the One True Living God found in 1 Timothy 4:10. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4 The bible can be hard to understand so I asked God for wisdom. He told me all interpretation of all scripture must bend the knee per se to My decrees and percepts. So I interpret all scripture in light of the gospel, which is good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. As well as in light of the fact that Jesus didn't stone the woman caught in adultery which the law of Moses commanded. As well as in light of Luke 9:54-56 which states...when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village...The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10 So when Jesus talked about Gehenna, we should cross reference back to Jeremiah 32:34-35 to make the connection that is the valley of the son of Hinnom. Although, We should read the whole chapter of Jeremiah 19 and 32 in light of John 10:10. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8

I could never just pray for some people's salvation; I would ALWAYS include that EVERYONE, even my 'enemies', would be saved, even though I was immersed in (what I now realise was) a Calvinist-based church. I would almost apologise for asking! I now know that impulse in me was pure and based on God's true desire - that ALL shall be saved. No more cognitive dissonance!
