Yup...they owe nothing to Helloween and honestly, I think they made the song even better than it already is. Midori and Miyako are absolutely on point, as always; Asami's vocals are just perfect and those high notes tho...magnificent; Haruna and Miho ? My dear lord, goddesslike performance, I simply can't get enough of Miho's bass, she's exceptionally good; and Haruna's face when she was about to start the song, that smile is priceless, and then she started to melt her drum kit. The whole band was like, over 900000 on this song.

Yep. Absolutely incredible performance. But to say any modern power metal band doesn't owe anything to Helloween, the proven founders of the whole genre, is very weird lol. Still, absolutely the best cover of this song I have seen in all the decades.

For me this is the best cover of Eagle fly free!! And they make this cover it's like easy to do. But not, playing this song is not easy at all. Great reaction again my friend. Yeah thanks for the reaction. Haruna the drummer was inspired by ex Helloween drummer Uli Kusch. She mentioned in interview- when i listened Helloween i was impressed by Uli Kusch druming stile. Now if you not reacted to the song Awakening/ Hammer of wrath please do it. Stay metal.

And Haruna makes this.. and lots of J bands have a standard drum kit, oki an extra kickdrums or double pedal and maybe some extra cymbals but not like the "big bands" with lots of drums on the kit, makes it more amazing in my eyes! Well there is a band called Gyze that playes melodic deathmetal. Haruna/drums get some shine time with her favorite band and Miho/bass gets some well deserved shine time. You are right about the spine and heart of a band is the bassist and drummer and that is what makes Lovebites so good. They drive every song, never get any really shine time but you always hear them in each and every song this group does. The song is the most important thing to this group and no one care who gets the shine time or if someone gets more solo time, Perfection always demand flawless performance and to have that every piece of the band has to be dedicated to performing their role regardless of the shine time allotted to each member. The thing that stands out besides Asami's vocals is just how in sync these women are when they perform. I had to laugh, Midori looks like she was on her way to some gala or ball and just stopped by to play a few tunes with the band!!!

I was never really a big Helloween fan but did hear several of their songs especially this one, sorry to say but Lovebites outshines on this cover and gave it that mastery of Lovbites sound. It is way better than the original by far and I gotta say it they made Helloween look and sound like amateurs. I hope you enjoy it, it is the only cover song they have ever done, and did it as a favor to Haruna who loves Helloween

I have been a Helloween fan since the 80's. I had both "Keeper" albums on CD back then. I was bummed when Kiske left the band, and it took me awhile to warm-up to Deris. "Master of the Rings" is where Haruna got into Helloween. "Time of the Oath" is a strong album. Kai Hansen went to Gamma Ray, with Ralf Scheepers on vocals. The early Gamma Ray stuff is killer. This is kinda the roots of power-metal, along with the early King Diamond Mercyful Fate stuff. Early 80's era. We had Ozzy, Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, etc... all that kinda stuff. The roots of metal. Huge influence on so many. All these years later.... LOVEBITES is carrying the torch for us!

They've actually done a ton of covers, but they've only released two so far (this one and Love Bites (So Do I) by Halestorm). The entire band are Helloween fans, not just Haruna. Miho said in an interview when asked which bands were their favourites that they all have different bands that they like, but the one band all the members like is Helloween.

Thanks for this, Nick. I enjoy your format (letting song play through then commentary on second pass) and your comments. Your attention to the lyrics is aligned with my own, and these are aligned with LOVEBITES other songs, and suits today's world as much or more than when they were originally written. Much of the music from this (80s) era I missed at the time due to family(s) & work(aholic) self-employed, trucker, heavy-equipment operator, and LOVEBITES is re-introducing me to some of what I missed. Although I am reluctant to say "better than original" I have listened to the original studio recording by Helloween and LOVEBITES has duplicated even the solos, for the most part and the tempo is near exact. Flawlessly done, as is LOVEBITES 'style'. My only frustration with LOVEBITES 'LIVE' videos is that I cannot watch each member all the way through. (Example here: cut away from Midori while soloing to Miho! I want to watch them both!) I have suggested to 'management' to release a 'deluxe edition' of this studio-live with 5 options, choose a member and every scene has that member featured so as to not miss seeing everything they do. We know they have the 'raw film' to do so. Watching Haruna on straight drum-cams like your own setup would be the ultimate! See you, maybe Saturday...

Nice tribute to the original, and I agree with those who said they made it better. Lovebites are always respectful to the old masters but in all honesty they have surpassed most of those groups in sheer technical mastery. You didn't mention it, but I think the secret to Haruna's endurance is her extreme efficiency. Other than the occasional stick twirl, there is no wasted motion. And Asami killed it on vocals here, better than Kiske.

Imagine Lovebites taking an extra guitarist HAL-CA.... I mean in some sections they use rhythm guitar track in the background, when Midori and Miyako for example play high notes in sync. They could easily do that 100% live with 3rd guitarist, without using track. it could bring more depth to their songs, and they could add some interesting extra solos :D

It just hit me that *LOBEBITES* is probably the overall shortest band out there. MISA from *BAND-MAID* is like 5' 6" or 5' 7" so it can't be them.

I have huge respect for Helloween, but I wasn't ever a big fan, or a Power Metal fan generally, so I can't really explain why I'm so infatuated with Lovebites, although I guess the obvious explanation is that they aren't strictly a Power Metal band, and they also have a Japanese sensibility in a lot of their melodies even though they're playing "Western" style metal. Anyway, to get to the point, I love this cover. I don't think it's "better", but I do prefer it over the original. I really think female vocals work better for this type of music. To my ears al least. This seems to be a running theme with Japanese bands. Like Nemophila turned a Nickelback song into something I listen to on repeat. All things are possible!

BTW, just as a question: are you aware of Unlucky Morpheus? If you aren't, let me say, the chances that you like that band are quite high. They play some melodic (symphonic) power metal, they are great musicians across the board. Asalways japanese bands are best in live performances, so take for example the official live video of the song "Angreifer" (german word for attacker, aggressor, assailant) to get a first impression - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gGKWgM4IOgc.html - but e v e r y song of UM is worth the time you spend listening to it. If you know them already, so much the better!

ok. I turned on this video thinking I was going to be listening to a video of the song "Eagle fly Free" reacted to by the drummer from Helloween . I didn't know this was a Helloween song. I have heard of the band, but that's it. Why are there no full stops ie periods. If you had something like "Drummer reacts to Lovebites cover of Eagle fly free by Helloween, then I would know what I'm getting. That doesn't mean. I don't appreciate your reaction.

He made slightly different choices than Haruna in his cover especially on the snare, but both covers are great and solid.

Haruna came to like metal when she met Helloween. Apparently, she had been requesting Asami to sing this favorite song from time to time since shortly after LOVEBITES were formed. Then, at last year's online studio live, the members decided to play a cover of this song as a gift to Haruna. Btw, they met the Halloween members in 2018.
