I just bought this today, and thanks to your video, I know where to plug in the lights ❤ and my betta girls love the filter waterflow. I've also left my sponge filter in
Hi great video! Just picked one of these up on eBay for £35. Thought I was missing a power cable but now I know I’m not. The filter also came empty but with a box of inserts, no idea what order they went in but now I do thanks! Also came with a heater, food, some gravel cleaner suction thing, some tap safe?, a few fake plants, some foam and a big bag of what looks like teddy stuffing. In the video you talk about swapping thing in your filter, why do you do that? What do you recommend?
Thanks, i just use sponges in various grades/coarsenesses mostly as they last for years and just need cleaning out rather than replacing like the cartridge type ones do. This keeps the beneficial bacteria colony strong in the filter which in turn keeps the live animals in the tank healthy.
How noisy is this tank set up for a bedroom please. Is their any gaps on the lid to run cables out of it. Or is it all built in. I was thinking of adding different equipment to this tank. Its just the tank am after buying really with a lid and a light. Thanks!
Its silent so long as you keep the water level high enough to not get the waterfall effect, plenty of gaps in the back of the lid to run cables through too. Thanks for watching!
I’ve got this tank. Got it a few years ago and wanting to set it up again, is the big plug the one that powers the lights and filter? I think I’ve lost it but need to know what I’m getting
Possible but chili rasbora are perfect sized snacks for a male apistogramma 😉. It's going to be an apisto breeding tank with a small bristlenose or somesuch.
Does the little white rubber dot flash red or what when the filter needs cleaning? How do I know when it needs cleaning do I press it all the time or does it flash a light itself???????? 🤔
I've never bothered with that as i don't use the filter cartridges, just a couple of pieces of sponge. As for filter cleans i squeeze out the sponges into the water i remove from the tank every week during my water change and maintenance. The button is supposed to tell you when the cartridge needs replacing but all those cartridges are is a way to get you to buy more stuff.
@@sharpiesfishandphantoms will it start flashing though is what I mean. At what point does I light up alerting me to change the filter. For example will I go to feed the fish one day, open the flap and see the light flashing. How does it work. Many thanks 😊
I think you press the button when you change the cartridge and it just counts down so dont bother pressing it and it wont come on. Your best bet is to get some sponge though and just not use the cartridges. My update video on the tank shows what i did.
I just get a pack of the egg crate looking sponge from amazon, the filter wont do anything to change your ph though, are you in a soft or hard water area?
@@sharpiesfishandphantoms thank you I've ordered some now. I have no clue what the water is but I'm in the North west UK. I use a love Fish water treatment and filter boost but nothing seems to work and think my fish are getting ammonia burn. Any advice?
My best advice would be to get some water testing strips and to do water changes with dechlorinated water. If you arent aware of the nitrogen cycle in a tank and how to achieve it it would be a good idea to watch a couple of videos on that.
I bought a pack of coarse medium and fine filter sponge off amazon, you can also get it at a local fish store, only needs replacing when it disintegrates which can take a year or more, just cut to size. I'm using coarse and fine in mine.
That's a nice little tank, thanks for the review, I've not looked at the tanks in pets at home properly as yet but I might look closer at them now. Hope we get to see it once it's set up 😊 Happy new year Sharpie 👍
Thanks for watching and glad it could be of some use, my closest pets at home is great but i have visited others and kinda understand why they get slated if those are representative or someones local store. Happy new year to you too.
@@sharpiesfishandphantoms mine was failing bought it used got a submersible light off Amazon £16 can go from 10-100% brightness normally it sucks onto the glass but managed to make it fit where the blue light would go
I've played with this tank, I have the 64 at work. Quite like it. Like the rounded front corners and the filter does a stand up job once you customise it. Nice tank to get on a sweet deal. The filter being on the central power system saves a plug socket too. Have fun with it bud and happy New Yeah when it comes mate.
Doesn't look a bad bit of kit for the money so far, the 5 guppies i put in to get it running seem to like it, within 5 hours there are 17 of them in there 😂.
@@trickymk1 so what bubbles do is allow for gas exchange at the surface. That's the benifit of air bubbles, not the actual bubbles moving through the water. So what you can do is either add an air bubbler or drop the waterline a tiny bit below the edge of the filter where the water flows back into the tank. That's what I did and it does the job fine. Hope that helps.
Hi there thanks for the video, I've just bought the exact tank and want to put a different filter in but I'm concerned about the open electrical connection where the jack plugs in, any suggestions?
A piece of insulating tape over the socket would do a good job of keeping water out, alternatively you could chop the connector off the filter and plug that in after taping over the wire. It's a low voltage supply into the tank itself so there's no risk of a big shock.
@@sharpiesfishandphantoms thank you, I was thinking a little piece of electrical tape or bunging the hole up with some blue tac. I should come with a rubber bung so you can choose your own filter. Thanks for quick response
@@sharpiesfishandphantoms it's my first attempt at keeping fish, I set it up Saturday then added half a dozen neon tetras yesterday and this morning the tank was really cloudy, I've been told it's a bacteria boom nothing to worry about but the filter wasnt producing enough water displacement even with an air brick in, I've read the comments about the filter on the pets at home website and they aren't good so I'm going to a specialist tomorrow to get a better one.
All I've added to mine is a sponge filter instead of an airstone. Just be aware that the tank will need to get its biological cycle running, it can take a few weeks with fish in.
Possibly the little post/hole things are getting loose. I have mine on the side of the tank and haven't had that problem. If it is the backplate coming away from the filter you could try using a hot screwdriver to spread out/melt the posts a little once you are sure you have it in the right place.
Hi could you tell me how many fish I can safely put in the tank ? Also you talk about cutting a sponge for the filter - what sponge and how can I get them ? I have set up my tank and when I checked the water the NO3 is high and says to change the water - I just did set up yesterday . I have 7 fish in the tank . 5 Cory , one sucker and one neon ( my beta actually attacked the other ones 😢 . So now the beta is in a separate tank .
I just bought some filter sponge from amazon, comes in sheets so you can cut it to fit. As for stocking levels it all depends on the size and amount of fish, live plants and filtration. I'm slightly understocked with a breeding pair of apistogramma and 4 ember tetras but not by much, assuming your sucker is a bristlenose pleco you're pretty much full and as it grows you could have problems with high nitrates, i do a 25% water change and filter clean every week just to keep things in check.
The power brick that plugs into the wall will get slightly warm yes, if you mean where the filter plugs into the lid then it's not something I've noticed.
Nice little setup. A small school of Ember tetras can work as an apisto ditherfish. They are not shy and are very good eaters. Happy New Year Sharpies to you and yours.
Pets at home do sell the spares so just call in at your local store. I was given the 64l version and the light had died, replacement was pretty reasonable.
