I had no idea this video existed, and it's quite a curiosity given the epic production of the record and the tortured lyrics. Whoever thought it would work to mime to the recording with a couple of acoustic guitars and to giggle and smirk through the performance must have been bonkers.
Great song and amazing voice. I got the album when it first came out back in the day. I think this is better than the Annie Lennox version. Thanks very much for posting this
I cannot stop watching this. Like many I didn't know the Annie Lennox version wasn't the original. Haunting song and absolutely genius. Does anyone know what David Freeman does now?
If only David Freeman and Annie Lennox could release this song as a duet. As the two bands had toured together, strange it didn't happen...or maybe it did but with no recording. :(
@@dr.darkroom I just don't understand your rant here. I've only asked that due to the fact that I happen to have Spotify premium and would love to listen to them on a train, add selected songs to one of my playlists or for whatever other trivial reason.
The Lover Speaks supported The Eurythmics on their 1986 tour. This original did not have the chart/commercial success it deserved, so with all that in mind Annie Lennox decided to include this song in her covers album, Medusa, but with an electronic backing and altered vocal arrangement. All other things considered, kudos to Lennox for giving this song the exposure and commercial success it deserved back in the day.
This can’t be from 1987? Annie Lennox released her version in 1993. According to Amazon music she wrote it with Dave Stewart? Did she write it for Lover Speaks first?
