Dave was recently out of a long-term relationship and eager to restart his romantic life, so he did what most people do: He tried online dating. Liz and Cari were two of his most promising connections, both single moms with winning personalities who helped bring him out of his shell in different ways. It should have been an opportunity for this hard-working, devoted dad to enjoy a second chance at casual romance, but it turned into a twisted love triangle, putting Dave and everyone he cared about at risk. Using interviews with those involved - including the law enforcement officers who cracked the case - alongside vivid reenactments that bring viewers into the tension and paranoia of Dave’s four year nightmare, this feature documentary from Curious Films (Running with the Devil) and director Sam Hobkinson (Fear City: New York vs The Mafia), deftly assembles the pieces of a mind-bending true tale of harassment, digital deception, and murder in America’s heartland. On Netflix February 9th.

Without expecting it I got emotional at the very end when we saw the archive footage of Cari being happy with her young children. It reminded me of my mother, who died in similar circumstances when I was a kid. Those precious moments were taken away from us. How anyone can decide to take the life of a mother for his own ends is beyond me. I will never understand. This world is so brutal.

What a story! These 3 playing billiards near to the end of the docu are brilliant and their dedication in this case is beyond words! Actually, if I want to know more about this story is all about the surgery of the IT expert that worries me. He is literally the key to give this case a path towards clarity! If he didn’t go and intricately study all these messages and pictures- it’s all dim! I hope he’ll be ok after his brain surgery. We have few of him in this field that’s truly excellent! As soon as they revealed that the girl wasn’t heard from for a while it’s a very likely someone was impersonating her. I started to believe surely she wouldn’t do that to her animals but jealousy is one hell of a drug. These cops and IT guys are the very good side of law enforcement. Nothing but respect for them. It’s so cruel that the guy had a brain tumour. He was destined for that unique role.

@daughterofolaf 8 месяцев назад
@@Billy-bc8pkThe author did not lay the story out in a well organized way. Very repetitive and sloppy. The book definitely had much more detail than the show but the author is just not a particularly good writer. Additionally, when you watch the 20/20 episode (assuming you don’t know the story already), you get a pretty good shock when they reveal what was actually going on. In the book there is none of that, so no suspense or build up. I’m still glad I read it because it was a fascinating case (although incredibly disturbing) but a more skilled author could have made it a knockout.

Spoiler alerts here. Okay, the one thing that is very odd to me is the original text Dave got at his shop from who he assumed was Cari (staying at his place that night) that said 'we should move in together'. If that is not an embellishment of the real first text, then we must assume that Cari was maybe already dead, and Liz was texting, no? Why text that particular question? And what if Dave had said sure, let's move in together. What would Liz's reaction be (as Cari)? Would she say I'm just joking, or would she lure Dave and maybe try and end him! That was a very strange first text from Liz (as Cari). Just my opinion. It seems if Dave had said yes this case could have gone in all sorts of other crazy places, different kind of crazy as it was extremely bonkers as it was. Liz burned down her own house and killed her own pets (after killing Cari). And then she moved out of Dave's daily life (except for the stalking and threatening Amy). I think Liz was absolutely gonzo. Humans can be and go crazy...
@kasabianlee
@kasabianlee 7 месяцев назад
I think Liz(as Cari) sent that initial text to confirm the status of the relationship between Dave and Cari, if they’re serious or not. Just my opinion. Nevertheless, crazy story and an unbelievable watch. I’m still stunned with how the story unfolded.

I knew the case before so the plot twist didn’t really get me, but this documentary is still very fascinating to watch. They filmed it like a movie. The plot, organisation, music etc are very well put together for this creepy story. I particularly like the way they shot the reconstruction scenes. They let us took a perspective of a stalker where u have to look at all the interactions far away. By that they planted the idea that there was a real stalker out there into our mind. When it got to the point that everything began to be uncovered, it became more shocking to the audience. It is a really good presentation of this case.

SPOILER!!! Took me 5 minutes to solve the case, how slow are these detectives? It was clear from the start that Liz had Cari's phone. And Dave is the one to blame. He shouldn't had brought Liz to his place while he was with a new woman. Then went back on to the dating app after all. Damn!

Brilliant story. The one thing I didn’t understand the though was how Liz’s SIM card was in Dave’s old tablet. Sounds like he had only been seeing Liz for a brief period. And if she had taken photos of Cari’s body, why had she left the SIM with Dave (ie in his tablet)?
@kingtwisty8531
@kingtwisty8531 6 месяцев назад
The tablet was pretty much used for a year and then chucked in storage because it sucked and none of us had a real use for it, If I remember correctly it was around the time kindle's were getting big that we got it for Christmas. She put the card in there because who would think to look at a random tablet for the case other than her? Especially since she wiped it.

The women who complain that their ex wont let them move out of state with their kids all need to watch this. And men, when you meet someone who you might have kids with, realize that if it doesnt work out, and they want to move out of state, you either move where they move, fight it, or pay a lot to travel to see your kids. It just occured to me after watching this, he was really cool to just move to Nebraska.

I haven’t watched this completely yet but I hit the pause button just felt so compelled to leave a comment. I chose the trailer because I didn’t want to accidentally see a spoiler that would’ve sucked. As intrigued as I am it’s very bittersweet because these are the style of documentaries, movies I would always watch with my everything who was my Grammy and let me tell u when she was right she was always right it may have some to do with her being clairvoyant but I believe the majority that came into play they always figuring out the mystery regardless to how complex it was she would always know how was at fault even when the individual would be the last to be suspected she would call it. I miss her more than could never be explained in mere words. All I can say is the moment I found her and my Kermit of 12yrs I stopped living I only exist and it’s never changed to this day and I know it never will, but I deserve this because I should have been there. Suicide is a daily daydream and if I believed that god would forgive me for that action I would have done a long time ago. Anywho talk about veering off the main road, I guess when u have nobody to talk to this is always the outlet I use, sometimes I will type such a long comment only to then delete never getting the chance to even be read. I just wish so much that I could watch this with her, so I’m gonna say to my Grammy if she were still with me that something tells me it’s Liz doing this I’m sure I’m wrong but how I would love to know what she would have thought because whomever she said would be the guilty party. I ❤ u so much Grammy and I miss u bunches
