My Ram is a 2002 so I know exactly what you were talking about hey whatever it takes to get some air! People saying that removing the door does not allow the AC to get as cold as it could well it's already not getting as cold as it could with the broken door blocking! Some is better than none! Thank you for the video sir
It will not get as cold if you remove the door. The reason being is that flap closed makes the air recirculating the cab is it open it's getting fresh air from outside which they won't have to be cooled. The mystery to handle that is tape up the hole that goes toward the firewall put the flap up there and tape over that. 2002 to 2008 Dodge trucks all need blend doors inside you won't have defroster or floor after a while .blend door usa.com as a repair kit for around $400. You can do it yourself but it takes forever it's a two person job it's easier to pay a thousand bucks for the labor
When it comes to DIY, RU-vid is fantastic. This video illustrates what I am referring to. The simple, 5 minute fix was exactly what was needed and I thank you very much for posting it.
Incredible, I've dealt with this issue for years (2006 ram, issue since 2009). Same song and dance with the dealership relative to cost of repair, pulling dash, etc. I am forever grateful for your video, you did a much needed service that many folks will benefit! Praise the LORD and again, many thanks!
My family and I were 1/2 way into a 7 hour road trip in southern Florida in late June. Desperately looking for a fix, we found this video and stopped at the next rest area to do it. It worked!!! You saved us from a cranky 3.5 hours in the FL sun! Thank you!!
Yep, this works, thanks for showing us how. Thing is, the job isn't complete! Go open your hood, take off the plastic cowl that is next to your windshield above the firewall. On passenger side there is a small, maybe 11/2 inch wide hole in the bottom of the gutter that your windshield wiper motor is in, tape that closed really well, and permanently. This is where the HVAC intakes outside air. This will keep you from bringing in fresh air, so you will be on re- circulate from then until you properly repair it. This also works great to stop that diesel smell coming in if you have a Cummins.
@@josephzylstra5840 I had this problem, what I did was take the door out and clean it. Then apply silicone to the vent side and reinstall. I cut a small slot in the canter of the door to insert a piece of plastic to hold the door in place till the silicone set up . Door permanently closed, to recycle air, Ac is very cold
My mechanic wanted $1200 to pull the dash and test the wiring. Yeah . . . took literally five minutes and a flat head screwdriver to fix. I can't tell you how great it is to have air conditioning again! Thanks man!
What a great hack! In an out in 20 minutes. Had my teenage son help to learn how to repair things himself. Flux capacitor...fluxing! Thank you so much.
Hi, I just had this problem until I saw your video! The piece of plastic that broke off the blend door was in the fan causing noise and vibration with almost no air flow. I popped out the motor and low and behold plastic in the fan and the blend door over the vent. It blows great now! You saved me probably hundreds of dollars from a shop and only took 10-15 min. Thank you!
Shane Schommer I'm planning on taking the flap out. How is it running in extreme temps. Some people are saying it won't give peak performance. I live in Alabama was wondering what you guys think. Thanks in advance.
Amazing. Watched the video, took my blower motor out, low and behold it was the EXACT issue. Door end was broken in half and just resting on the inside. Thanks for the video. Much appreciative.
Good video BUT be aware... the flap that broke is the FRESH AIR BLEND door. The "FAB" door prevents HOT/HUMID (Summer) air or COLD/FREEZING (Winter) air from entering the cabin when you set the HVAC controls on the RECIRCULATE settings... Running w/out a "FAB" door wont hurt anything but it will stop the AC from reaching MAX coldness on hot/humid days and/or reaching MAX hotness on freezing cold days...due to the door no longer sealing off outside air from the fresh-air intake port. Those that do not realize the FAB door closes off the outside air port (when setting your HVAC on re-circulation) will likely/mistakenly think their AC system is low on R34 or that their heater core is plugged/cracked(!)
So I rigged my fresh door totally sealed to where it only circulates but one side is super cold like it's supposed to be and the passenger side blows weaker and it doesn't get as cold or hot as the driver. Does this have somthing to with it?

Taking the flap out will not let the ac get as cold as it should. The reason is that flap controls whether or not you get fresh outside air or recirculate cabin air. The best back is to drive a self taping screw into it or tape if with flashing tape or HVAC foil tape to cover hole that goes to outside.
Hey brother I have a 2017 Ram 5500 rollback tow truck solid black and I haven't had AC in this truck for 2 weeks customers complain about it being hot watched your video fixed it in 10 minutes best cold air I ever felt thanks for the video brother roll tide
Props to ya for this video. Such an easy fix and well explained. I was dreading this repair but just dropped the blower and pulled out the broken door thru the hole. Works great now. Thank you!
Same in my ‘03 Ram. I searched it on RU-vid, found your video and fixed my truck! Thank you, sir ! God bless and Roll Tide. Dodge plastic was sent over here by the Chinese to make us have road rage.
Just watched your vid about half an hour ago. Dropped the blower, reached up and grabbed the faulty door (which was laying over the vent), maneuvered it vertically, slid it down the opening, put the blowing back in place and Bingo...back to blowing air again! Took all of ten minutes. Thanks for help.
Thank you so much. My son has been without air in Florida for 3 years so I finally ask him to check on youtube and see if there were any easy fixes. (I take care of repairs to keep him on the road but have always told him AC was a luxury so save up if he wanted it fixed. :-) Shop had quoted $600 for the repair. We watched the video and after about 45 minutes he has a boat load of cold air. Talk about happy! Thanks again!!!
2007 Ram P/U Coming out of Jax Florida for Montgomery Alabama I heard a low, dull, thunk sound from under the dash and shortly noticed it was getting warm. I suffered for 6 hours. Got home, showered, and crashed. Got up today and googled it. Your video came up and 15 minutes later I am laughing at how amazing you are. We bow to your greatness.. Looking at all the comments you should know that the crowd is grateful. Thanks for taking the time to shoot and post this.
From sunny/hot Arizona. Thanks brother, it worked great. The flap was right there like you described, pulled it out and the hinge was damaged as yours was. Thanks again!
You sir are my hero today. You just saved me a lot of time, effort and money. Took about 15 min to fix my air vent. You were spot on and now it works great. Thanks again, if ever in Bham area I'll buy you a beer
Did replacing that door fix your heat? I haven't had heat for a month or so and just realized last night no air is coming out of my vents (I only run the defroster in the cold, I dont like the hot air blowing in my face) It seems like the inside of the dash gets warm, but nothing else. I have been stumped, but I think this may be the issue.
one of the most helpful videos I've ever seen in my life thank you so much no joke brother appreciate your time and effort it was very easy to understand and not that long great job
joseph beltran I'm planning on taking the flap out. How is it running in extreme temps. Some people are saying it won't give peak performance. I live in Alabama was wondering what you guys think. Thanks in advance.
You're the man! Was just about to pay for an AC test and God only knows how much after that. Thank you. I hope it cools pretty well during the hot summer heat without the interior circulation option. Its ice cold right now.
Thanks for the video! Same problem in my 2005. I would much rather just take the door out instead of pull the whole dash to fix it and most of the other videos say you should replace it. Since yours worked with the door just out that is what I am going to do! Thanks again bud!
Very nIce video. very informative. My FAB door was sitting directly on top of the fan motor also blocking the air flow. The only thing I changed was I cleaned the broken FAB door, put rubbing alcohol on paper towels and put my hand thru the fan/motor port after it was removed as you showed; than wiped the walls where the FAB door would close; than figured the best way to slide the FAB door up thru the fan/motor port as there is a little trick. Slide straight up to the screen where the fresh air comes in then turn the door. Now I added Hard as Nails sealant to one side of the Fab door, slid it back thru fan/motor hole, turned the door and have it placed as if was going to be in the closed position for inside air circulation only/ no fresh air(ok with me, truck is old, that is what I usually prefer). I added a piece of Gorilla tape while drying. You can pre-drill the door and add a small wood screw, than use a drill extension to screw the door closed into the plastic housing with sealant. Cee Tee its hot here also; so thanks for making this video; it saved me a lot of time and money.
Man, that is awesome information! I pulled the 3 screws and the blower motor dropped right down to reveal my door has the corner of the hinge broken off and the door lying there blocking all air flow. It's hot here now with summer just starting, but I'm pretty darned shure that's why I had hardly any air flow to defrost my windows last winter too! I just pulled the broken door out for now, and remounted the blower motor for now, and have great air flow. 4 speed fan adjustment still works, and I guess the only drawback in not fixing the door is not having true selection of outside air or recirculated interior air only. 10 minutes, and no cost! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Perfect....Thank u very much took me 10 minutes eyes are getting blurry at 50 yrs old that was the worst part ....Hopefully i can still see the open sites on my Savage 99 this deer season take care and God Bless
Thank you Jesus!! You are a true blessing my friend. I'm so glad I found your video because you just saved me a headache and probably a good chunk of change. It literally took about 10 minutes to fix! God bless you my brother and thanks again for your helpful video.
Thank you for showing how your controls were not working, this let me know I had the same issue. Small mean time fix until I can really address the issue.
Thank you so much. You just saved fellow Alabama boy's butt. Mine is acting up like yours and I've been freaking out. Plus it's starting to get cold here in Colorado. Thanks again
All the blend doors and mode doors are faulty in 02 to 08's. I bet you don't have defrost or floor air and if you do it won't be for long. Blend door usa. Com sells new doors but it's a very long day to remove the entire dash. Much easier if you buy the kit that you cut into it with a Dremel
This is the best video I have seen for my no/low air flow issue, I will try it and let you know how it works. I noticed you said you live where the humidity is high. I was wondering, will this also work in the Connecticut winters to get more heat through those vents?
